I think this is Fairly self-Explanatory:
My reasoning for this is that the "Convert Courtier" event fired and within the time it took for the reply event to happen, he got converted by my Court Chaplain.
Not Shown: My "Friend" in this was actually a Former Ruler who I seriously crippled before he got conquered by someone else. For some reason, after he lost everything he decided to flee to me of all people

The usage of a instead of an in that screenshot is killing me.
Stramge prompts kept coming from my court chaplain about the rumors of me dipping into the occult kept appearing.. I had no idea why and kept dismissing them as the mere rumors they were.
It seems I did not know my current ruler as well as I should have.

As you can see this girl has a sibling. Her sibling (although it's not visible on this screenshot) is from a previous patriarch.

Started as a ruler designer Count of Kaliopolis (Age 29, traits: Grey Eminence, Legitimized Bastard, Patient, Lustful, Trusting). I revoked the city and temple baronies from my two vassals, and sat my steward on my county to collect taxes. Saved up all of my money, and waited until January 1072 when the Seljuk-Byzantine War ended. The plot to fabricate a claim on Thrace went off without needing to bribe anyone, and had plenty of plot power. The plot to acquire it however, was tougher.
I went to work, and spent the better part of 250 gold on bribes, getting several swing backers, and having 2 people with a green thumbs-up with no bribes. My backers weren't exactly powerful, in my mind. Mostly the smaller dukes, and a count. The Basileus would still have 6k levies or so, plus the 3k Varangian Guard, against ~3-4k rebel troops. He could've squashed me in a war attempt.
But no, he was scared of the little count next door.
What's the last time anyone saw this screen in un-modded vanilla (with no reloads or cheats used to boot!)
Held off swearing fealty, and kept as many of the counties as I could in my realm Pagan while trying to find folks I could marry into my realm... which is difficult, because Pagans have a bad tendency to either let other people convince em' to convert or to let their kids be tutored by Christians. But I managed to keep a handful around, one managed to convert my older sister to Romuva, and when I turned six I had her tutor me. A couple years later, I got the event that let me convert.
Honestly, that's not the hard part. The hard part is the fact I have to swear fealty to the HRE to avoid getting holy war'ed to the stone age, I now I have to try and get myself Catholic again before the title revocations come flyin' in.
Hands off game (vanilla with time limit extended), 2309. ERE is still kicking! What surprises me is that Christian and Muslims are still around (only Sunnis and Pagans went extinct).

To explain, Venice won the Crusade for Egypt. It wasn't long after this screenshot was taken that he switched his primary title to Egypt. His heir a few years later is another Egyptian, AbuBakr AbuBakrid.
