Here I am, minding my own business in tutorial island. Meanwhile, something's been going on over the continent:

Old Karl died before he could press his claim on Lombardy. Without BBB to fight against, some Lombard king converted to Waldensian; it's been three generations of Waldensian Lombards now, and every liege in the peninsula has been converted. Except for the Pope, who has been kicked out of Rome and is holding to a couple titular titles, unlanded.

Something happened after Pepin that screwed Francia's sucession, and as a result Western and Central Europe are completely shattered, and no one has had the time to holy war Lombardy. Lombardy, however, has found the time to HW poor Baviera out of the map.

Catholic moral authority is around 50-60%, and I don't know if it can survive until Crusades kick in. I'm seriously thinking of beelining towards Kent to give Canterbury to the Pope or the extra MA.

Oh, and Abbasid's and Umayyad's blobs have met in North Africa. Both have been sitting north of 50% decadence for some time now, and Abbasids haven't yet managed to defeat a revolt that has been kicking for decades. And Tengri is reformed. All this fun and we haven't left the 9th century yet.

So through an unimaginably complex chain of events I somehow ended up with my only landed title as a barony. I did have a Kingdom and Duchy title, but no actual counties to my name. I've seen it happen to the AI a few times, but never to me.

So I'm the Emperor of the Mongol hordes. Earlier I released some Borjigin as head of a new mongol empire in Persia. Years later I go over to check the leaders in my event stack that I'd been preserving to find... a certain other emperor leading my left
flank.

So I was playing pretty normal game as HRE. Conquered most of Africa, near east, central and central eastern Europe. Then I married Byzantine princess and this happened.

Also Finland owns one reformed Slavic province in France and half a dozen decadence revolts turned giant Abbasid caliphate into patchwork of revolts, Yezidi emirates and independent Buddhist counties... and one massive empire.

So here's a continuation of the story of the old pope's two daughters being made Antipopes (whome I lovingly call "twin whores of Babylon"). Problem is: they were apparently quite healthy and lived... a while:

11F6E22AB6B7E948FC55D748A73667710B096B7E

Both are this old at the point:

F535710042BCF792880DA061E29A66C61EC6082F

721D123477B2E1946A3AAD5A6C0194955879BE16

Fast forward a century. Both died eventually, but the damage was quite... done. And before you mention it: yes, the constant religious upheaval cost me the German crown.

What a great new world.

(This was a Vanilla savegame to which I only added the "hidden stats" mod, and later Rebels and Warmongers - but that was after Catholicism had all but died, so everything you see here is the result of Vanilla dynamics...)

Guess what I found?
What else can happen besides the huge amount of culture points and the risk of insanity?

Wiseman: When you removed the book from the cradle, did you speak the words?
Ash: Yeah, basically.
Wiseman: Did you speak the exact words?
Ash: Look, maybe I didn't say every single little tiny syllable, no. But basically I said them, yeah.

This guy. He WAS Fraticelli (my character converted him eventually), but he still has all seven deadly sins plus homosexual, cynical, shy, paranoid, just, and possessed. Also Voice of Satan and Jesus gives military advice, which explains the insane Martial stat. I don't even think he's a demon spawn judging by all the extra traits and Jesus giving advice. It couldn't be more unfitting that he's also a Mastermind Theologian...

Do you mind explaining how this happened?

I imagine he held a barony outside a de jure place that was holy warred. So he was only left with the Barony.

Nope, actually I'm not even sure what the trigger was, but the gist of it is that I had formed the Empire of Tartaria and became reformed Tengri, only to have the Seljuks totally roll over me with invasion after invasion right after I had become feudal and was dealing with liberation revolts all over the place. Between the Seljuks and the Byzantines opportunistically hHoly Warring over the course of 30-40 years I ended up with only two counties in Crimea. I desperately needed to a chance to catch my breath, as one more Holy War and it would be game over, so I had my son convert to Paulician (the Byzantines had gone heretical) and changed to elective Monarchy so that I could elect someone not of my Dynasty to become Emperor so that I could eventually swear fealty to the Byzantines.

However while this was happening I had a massive Desmense limit still and only two counties, so I revoked all the barony holdings (a city and temple in one and a barony in the other, due to having built a barony in it while it was still tribal). I nominated a vassal Duke of the Byzantines, the Duke of Cherson, then committed suicide (it said that the only title loss on succession would be the Empire of Tartaria, which is what I wanted) However, for some weird reason, presumably because of my holding wrong barony types, I had my heir get only the one barony, my nephew got the city and temple, and the Duke of Cherson got both counties.

It was a really weird scenario. But it was a lot of fun killing off the emperors of Tartaria and letting the Byzantines vassals inherit it, allowing me to expand "my" territory to a more reasonable size through reverse inheritance. I mangaed to get Cherson, Crimea, Itil, and Sarkel that way, at which point I figured I could probably avoid swearing fealty to the Byzantines after all.
