So here's the backdrop, this has been one of my most interesting games yet(I started off in Finland at 1066 and managed to create the Russian Empire while staying completely tribal until virtually all my vassals were feudal and I essentially had no choice but to switch as well)
Anyways the Ilkhanate had gone on a pretty terrifying rampage, managing to conquer Persia from the Seljuks(although it was in the midst of a revolt so they only got about 2/3rds of it, after which the rebellion returned to Seljuk control), as well as Greece from the Byzantines. They looked pretty much unstoppable, until the Shiite Caliph called a jihad for Persia. I have no idea how, but they managed to win despite the Ilkhanate being able to raise upwards of 170k troops. However, while that was happening, the Sunni Caliph called a jihad simultaneously. But now that Persia is split between the Fatmid caliphate and Seljuks, there isn't any part of Persia under Mongol control, but the Sunni Jihad is still going on (and they're actually winning). I assume that if they win they won't get any territory, but to be honest I'm not complaining. I'm glad the Ilkhanate's occupied in the Middle East, as my recently-turned feudal Russia is no where near ready to take on Mongol doomstacks.
Also interesting to note is that the Golden Horde is totally surrounded by the Ilkhanate, and despite having ~95k troops they won't declare war on the Ilkhanate, who can still raise ~130k. But it's possible that if the Ilkhanate erodes even further the Golden Horde might take the opportunity to start their own conquest.
