Started from the 1066 start date-as far as I can tell, William won, but then lost a massive independence revolt against him (normandy is currently undergoing a similar one in this screenshot

This occurred after I mended the schism-Denmark converted, Sweden and Norway did not, and got holy-warred into oblivion. Sweden now owns Iceland, and nothing else, and appears to be stuck in a perpetual civil war.

This isn't really odd, just unlikely. But I just wanted to show how many republics are in my game currently. Only -one- is my own intervention. I was just baffled when I checked trade posts!

sEe5HOm.png

They are the Serene Republic of Iceland, the Merchant Leagues of Venice, Wendland, Genoa, Hamburg, Lubeck, Jerusalem. The Republics of Gotland, Haffiz, Thrake, Achaia and the Roman Republic (Byz).

Shia event popped, didn't think much about it. Quiet lull in the game, pulled out to check on the rest of the world, found this in the middle of the Iberian.

Note the religion (That used to all belong to the Knights of Calatrava and the Nasrid - they've been trying to eat each other for the past seventy years or so).

Yup. Shia Caliphate spawns in the middle of a Christian Iberian. You better believe I set the kid up as a person of interest. Dis is gunna be good.

Who wants a Sunni Caliphate after all?
I'm all for a Snowy Caliphate.

Get it? Sunni, Sunny, Iceland, snow -- I'll just go in my corner.

Man, your attempt at humor was utter Shiite. [badum-ts]

Even that pun was pretty Ibadi.

Yeah, you go into that corner. Alawite for your apology. :D

Alright, that's enough! You should sign a Druze
Please stop it with these puns, people. I'm getting Tengri.

This one requires a bit of explanation. I conquered most of the world (sans the Steppes, Persia and India) as a Norse merchant republic. I then got bored of holding a vast empire and partitioned it into many smaller pagan republics. I kept Rome and some parts of Italy for myself... and became christian to fend off the pagan hordes. The result?

2014-09-20_00002.jpg

In case you can't tell, that is several hundred viking ships waiting off the coast of my capital for me to move my 50k retinue (I still am at retinue cap from my huge empire, even though now I control less than de jure italy). They are always there--they have no one else to raid, so they just wait. Most of my coastal provinces I give to norse rulers so that they cannot be raided, but they are able to raid my desmesne. If I move my retinues out of my desmesne, thousands of viking raiders immediately pour onto the shores to take my gold and burn my trade posts.

I usually just keep my retinue parked in my coastal desmesne to ward them off, but it is sorta creepy to have hundreds of ships constantly looming off the shore, waiting. There is another huge pagan fleet hanging around the other shore of Italy too.

The picture is too small to really tell (dang photobucket resizes), but there are almost 500 ships in that fleet pictured from more than a dozen different realms.

I almost died laughing imagining that situation.

Though a series of unfortunate events (two kings dead in the same year) Alba went over to France...then the French King died.

Is it strange? Not really. But I find it amusing. Not as amusing as the massive Viking attack fleet off Italy, maybe, but it's still chuckle worthy. Though given how Vassals act, there's a 50/50 chance the realm will descend into rebellion.
