They're doing not badly there for an 867 game, though. That's quite expanded borders. No comment at the Cyprus, question though, are you playing the ERE and gave the Varangians land, or did they grab the land on their own? (I have seen Captains ofthe Varangians prepare invasions, they can if Germanic)

Varangian Guard is helping one of the revolt to claim the Basileus, I don't know why the predecessor Basileus gave them land...
They are Orthodox now, only the first captain is Germanic, pretty sigh.

When China gets asked for a prince or princess to marry the game randomly generates one. The current emperor probably isn't old enough to have adult kids so it generated siblings.
On the local front:
This is daddy dearest. As you can see, immediately after his death he was proclaimed blessed and brought fame to the family. I would like to know if I can influence making him a saint in any way possible. See, what the pope and others did not know is that daddy was actually a secret Shia Assassin who used his money and Spymaster position in the Lombard court to get as much titles as possible, usurp the duchy of Lombardy from the King and getting me in a prime position to dethrone the king, of course as revenge for imprisoning my father.
And a non-related issue:
Is part of your realm still tribal or was she pagan ? If yes to one of them they she might have been in a warrior society and got selected as target for duel for blood. Admit I never paid attention if those are always in diplo range.
Herleve seems to have been very good at duels. She has been picked as opponent for Hougu's legendary journey into your realm, you should feel honoured! Perhaps you will send a bear after him next

I think those are warrior-lodge related, it's also possible to lose depressed during battle for lodge members.

No, nothing of the two. I started as the duke of Apulia is 1066 and have always been feudal & Catholic.
Since all nomads can be Eagle Warriors, then yes, there are several nomadic realms nearby (in their usual place around the black sea). The girl was also my court tutor at some point and a large (lots of kids) Orthodox Pecheneg family of nomadic origin was living in my court. So maybe one of her former pupils that got rivaled with the Conclave education event was the connection?
"Killed in a spectacular duel" refers most often to fights which are part of the Legendary Gathering quests. I'd guess that Eagle Warrior was on a legendary quest targetting your realm, and the game decided this woman would be the fitting challenge for him.
Always been feudal and catholic yourself doesn't prevent you relive from not been. =p

I know I'm very much in the minority here but I still haven't played much with pagans (especially after HF) so I'm not at all familiar with these new warrior lodge mechanics. So it seems extremely weird to me that a gathering of heathen warriors decided to target my totally non-pagan realm and courtier for one of their murderous quests. And it's especially puzzling that I can do nothing about it. I mean, what if they had targeted my ruler when I still had no heir?!?
I hope I find the whole affair more plausible when I play the other side. No part of my dynasty (or realm) was ever anything else until then. Only random courtiers of invited or refugee status were ever anything other than feudal-Catholic.
In short: When the society has filled a percentage bar it can activate a "Legendary Gathering" decision (The up to four present members in "Hero"-rank can, to be precice).
They will then embark on a travel to some major, distant and typically "infidel" realm, attempting to fight the finest warriors present there.
I'm not sure if there is any trigger in the code preventing a pc from being targetted as duel opponent, or to prevent wannabe heroes from killing your nieces for epic bloodlines.
