A pcgames article and the YouTube version of yesterdays stream smells like the hype machine is being pumped. The H is being loaded into the dropship.

I personally expect an announcement next week regarding the release date or a potential delay, but would not be disappointed if we got one earlier.

Honestly. I don't like when companies play games like this. If they need to delay, fine say that and say it early. If they know the day, and it's firm, just tell us.
I'm at the point that when they announce the release day, whatever it is, I probably won't be hyped for it -- keeping to the schedule narrows them down to a 7 day window, only two days of which are realistic --but instead a "'bout D**** time they told us".

Or, my usual advice; sit down, have a cup of tea and let all those things that are out of your control just happen.
My guess is that they aren't playing games, put at this point they aren't 100% sure they'll have everything at what they consider release-ready by their target date. So they are holding off naming a date so as to avoid having to change it at the last minute.
But they can't be any surer than "a month away" sure, because that's what's required for a minimum lead time according to conventional wisdom. If that's true, they won't release it any sooner than April 23 at this point. At some point, you've just got to pick a date that you'll never be 100% sure about.
Let's assume that is true. If they aren't sure, then they should push it back. They have a reputation for releasing a quality product, people will forget about late launches for a good game, they don't forget buggy releases.
You don't want to keep potential customers hesitant and not announcing a release date can do that. I'm not sure what areas you see for this game, but I've seen a number of rumours that this game has folded or it's a quick cash grab, or it's in a completely unplayable state, or a number of other rumours that are based almost entirely on the fact that they've refused to state a release date or show anything of the single-player game in action.
If they are sure about the release date, they should say it, if they think they might miss it, the reaction of pushing it back is only going to get worse the closer they are to the previously announced release window they are.

I would hope that when they only have 7 days within their previously stated window that they know which day they are going to release. If none of them work, they need to say sooner rather than later.
OTOH, if they were sure they wouldn't make a release by the end of April I think they would've already announced that too. There's no benefit in delaying bad news.

Well if they think they still might make the April deadline, they won't want to push it back just yet either. Also the people working at HBS probably don't want to be the first one to say they definitely won't make the deadline, and will cling to hope that if they pull enough all-nighters they will pull it off.
Not a criticism of HBS, it happens in every organization. IIRC NASA calls it "Go Fever."
Much like the "What is success?" question, this is a question requires an intimate knowledge of what HBS considers up to standards. What we've seen in the streams looks well past what plenty of companies would consider good enough.
Again not a criticism, some of those companies have killed their brands via awful releases.

Maybe, and this is of course just a thought, they have a deadline to determine whether the bughunt is progressing as planned and an April release does make sense. Or not. Since we have not heard anything yet, that deadline was obviously not this week. So we will have to be patient and wait for next week.
