A bit more on Scandinavia:

I've just been playing Sweden, and in Sep 39 a Radical Government took power (possibly in response to events in Poland?). Anyway, after Germany DOW Denmark in Oct 39, Sweden decides to 'protect' Norway. 2 weeks later a Scandinavian power emerges (*insert maniacal laughter here*). During this period was an interesting protest by Norway about the Altmark...

I've just been altering the files so that the winter war events will fire for Scandinavia in place of Sweden, provided that it was Sweden that formed Scandinavia. Also I have altered the Scandinavia joining Axis event so it only triggers if Germany releases Scandinavia.

Got to test to see if it works. Just waiting to throw back the red horde...
Pity I couldn't inherit the Norwegian Army or Fleet (like China does).

Another thing: Having the events dealing with Mengkukuo in romania.txt is probably not a good place. Can you move them to japan.txt?

On becoming SCA, I found all my dissent gone (yay) and my lw-radical ministers gone (I was happy when I got the +25% mp guy...now gone forever). I now have the Danish King, perhaps that was the price for German acceptance, with the Swedish King fled when the government changed. Makes for good story I suppose. My research projects are gone, but seem to still be 'in progress'. Don't know what's happening there - maybe they will eventually finish? Probably something for Paradox to look into.
Oh, and no propaganda poster for SCA or description. Not really a problem for a country that didn't exist.

After getting beaten in the Winter War, a few more suggestions:

If SCA in war with FIN, and SOV victory comes up, if SOV chose 'Lets bring them socialism', FIN can choose (95%) to 'Join Scandinavia' (trigger SCA event), or 'Fight to bitter end'
if FIN choses 'Join Scandinavia', SCA gets event 'Fight to bitter end?'. a) 'Fight to Bitter End' (+right,-democ,+profarmy,--disent, inherit FIN)
b) 'Try to bargain' (+left,-democ,+dove,+++dissent, inherit FIN, trigger offer to SOV of much of FIN, or FIN established as SOV puppet)
c) 'Bow out of war' (+left,-democ,+dove,++dissent, trigger offer to SOV for separate (white) peace)

If SOV chose 'Settle for what we asked for', trigger an event for FIN later 'We must stand united, next time' for chance for SCA to inherit FIN.

FIN Leaders, etc will have to be added to SCA files and slept on SCA creation, only being activated on inherit.

All this is very unlikely to happen - how often does Sweden cease to be a democracy, cancel guarentee on Norway, DOW Norway (after UK guarentee has expired in late 39) and annex Norway before Winter War starts (atwar=no trigger for intervention event)

I really love all of your suggestions, Vagrant, but frankly, it seems like alot of work for something that will NEVER happen unless a player initiates it...

I should refer you to TekcoR, who is making an alternate-history Scandinavian mod for his AAR, the Crown of Europe. :)

Still, if you feel like doing the work, be my guest ;)

Also, when I first began the mod, I began in romania.txt because it had alot of free slots. The project then ballooned and we have what we have today. Consider it historical evidence that so many events are just scattered! :D

And jrb, that event looks pretty good. I'll have to do some research, first, but I like the general idea. So expect it to be included in some form in a later version of SMEP (which could be a while).

Cool - I was thinking that there should be additional trigger conditions that check for german control of all the provinces listed in choice 'b'.

Wouldn't make sense to build coastal forts if they aren't controlled by Germany! :eek:o

Yes, I saw that only a player would cause it. And the game is about being enjoyable for the player.

I've been reading TekcoR's AAR, although his setting for Scandinavia is a bit different than here.

If I finish doing the changes with my current game, I'll let you know so I can send you the files.

Just tried this mod and its great. Reminds me of AGCEEP in EU2.

BTW is there any expansion to alternate history, like what can be done with Fascist US in vanilla for example? Besides victorious countries of course, which I see you have actually got working properly, lol.

Anyways great work, can't wait to see what you do next. Makes me wish even more that the game didn't end in 1947, heh.

The only real alternative easter-egg is Scandinavia. If you are Sweden and conquer Norway, or if you're Germany and conquer both Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, Scandinavia can be created.

I must confess I hadn't even noticed SMEP so far and I played both HOI1 and HOI2. :wacko: I tried all major mods for HOI2 so far but none of them is finished yet. your package looks like a great addition, it includes just the thing I've wanted (modified and new events, surrender events,...) I'll try it ASAP...

I started as Germany and went on as usual (Molotov-Ribbentrop, Poland, Sudetenland, install Tito in Slovakia) and now suddenly I realize that Slovakia is NOT :wacko: in war with UK/France/allies! No wonder they could attack French provinces... now I'm really puzzled why that is, everything went by the events, Slovakia became my ally and puppet straight from the event. Now as I look at it, Slovakia is indeed allied with Germany but NOT in war with anyone! I really don't get it - how can it be? Dumb really, I guess after I take France I'll have to go declare war on Allies as Slovakia.

Don't know what may have caused this, perhaps a small error in the event scripting? Then again it just may be some weird glitch in the game itself... no idea really but I thought I'd report this in case this indeed was a bug.

I have been reading with great interest about SMEP. However, I have been unable to determine if SMEP corrects the problems with HOI2 ver 1.2 having a somewhat moribun AI (e.g. Japan doesn't take any Pacific Islands, Germans ignore Low Countries, Allies don't invade Nazi occupied Europe). Any comments from people who have used SMEP would be most welcome. :)

I can tell you now that I have made no AI changes and I doubt I will. Sorry. But I still think you should try it, as it does try to guide the game towards more historic outcomes.

Here is an example of what happens if you try to split the remnants of Czechoslovakia with Hungary ;)

As you can see, the war started early. I annexed Czechoslovakia, but then France declared war anyway, with Poland's help. Warsaw is mine!​

I finally downloaded this and it very good, I'm glad I did. My one question is are all those new events ones that were bugged in the Paradox release or did you add alot of them yourself?

I don't know what went wrong, I can't remember if they asked or not. Then again I couldn't invite them to my alliance either because it claimed that we were already allied. When I reloaded the game as Slovakia I saw that according to their politics, we didn't have an alliance. Weird. Well, I joined the alliance as Slovakia and that fixed it.

I have created well over one hundred new events (maybe closer to 200), but I also fixed perhaps 50 Paradox events (most of which are found in hoi2.txt). They were present in the code, but bugged. Now they work. :)
