It may be just a single Variant per Model, otherwise HBS could have taken the total of 470-tons of new Mechs to a greater total than just 470.

Plus, these seem to be the only Mechs we see in the now three HEAVY METAL videos provided by HBS:

View attachment 522590

That is such a beautiful picture. Warhammers, Riflemans and Marauders oh my. But given there is no Rifleman-5D, that will make building that thing up a little more interesting. I find trying to slap 2 ACs in that thing's arms, alongside Lasers is rough. Nevermind striking a good balance of armor.

The Annihilator will be fun times. Big ol pot bellied, giraffe necked derp gun mech.

I feel like the Rifleman and Jagermech should have a 1v1 to fight it out and see which mech is the king of the long barrel arm/long range fire support battlefield.

Hmmm, depending on how well armored each mech is, I think it could go either way. The Jager mech tosses ALOT of tonnage for those 4 Autocannons and the ammo. I dont use it much, but the Jager has incredibly thin armor. Despite it being 5 tons heavier, the Jager is very soft. Then it has alot of ammo in it, that can pop.

Rifleman has a bit more firepower, 2 LL, 2 AC5s vs 2AC2s and 2AC5s. Keep up the evasion pips and run the Jager out of ammo. Though the ballistic only loadout on the Jager would leave it running alot cooler, so alot more shots take...

I think the Rifleman would come out on top in the end. It would come down to skill and a bit of RNG, but id bet on the Rifleman.

I think the Rifleman has the definite advantage. The Jager has a slight range advantage, but the Rifleman hits harder. With the decreased heat on the large lasers, I think the Rifleman can sustain itself long enough to win.

Hmm... unless the Jager closes to medium laser range... If it gets in close, the Jager can include its mediums without too much worries about its heat while the Rifleman will have to pick between mediums and larges or rapidly overheat. I still give the fight to the Rifleman, but it would be more reliant on luck than I might have initially assumed.

That “See First” Ability of the Rifleman is hinged on a 100-meter Viewing Distance bonus.

In One-on-One Mech Combat, that 100-meters is a ready victim to single Sprint by one’s opponent.

As to the Rifleman or JagerMech question?

I’ve always been partial to the JagerMech. : )

The Rifleman and Jager always feel very similar to me. They are humanoid like, long arms, no defined (head), and even have a spoiler like antenna.
That's not really a coincidence:

"Designed in 2774 as an anti-aircraft platform and long-range fire support unit, the JagerMech was intended to correct several perceived faults of the original Rifleman. Kallon Industries went about reviewing the battlefield performance of the Rifleman and identified three critical flaws: it ran too hot, it was too lightly armored, and it didn't carry enough ammunition. Kallon's engineers built the JagerMech with these issues in mind and while they managed to address the heat and ammunition problems they were unable to increase its armoring despite the larger chassis. In the end the company saw this as less of an issue since, as they noted, the JagerMech is a second-line 'Mech whose long-ranged autocannons allow it to engage many enemies without suffering return fire."
- sarna.net entry for JagerMech
In less lore and more practical terms, the JagerMech was created as a drop-in substitute for the (then) Unseen Rifleman.

You are sadly wrong by virtue of the Rifleman being way cooler looking. ;)
We might just have to test this one out on 21NOV. : )

Maybe the A/C2 and A/C5 version (can't think of the suffix off the top of my heard).

The Rifleman and Jager always feel very similar to me. They are humanoid like, long arms, no defined (head), and even have a spoiler like antenna.

Wasn't the Jager created to replace the Rifleman when it went unseen?

Edit: My thought was confirmed by the encyclopedic knowledge of @stjobe

Mm, pretty sure it is. Deep deep, down in your "moderator" contract, somewhere along the bottom in really, really fine print. :)

Fine.

I'll take a cookie then.
I had the most mediocre cookie the other day. That was truly sad.

On the Jager/Rifleman topic, I will say that from a gameplay standpoint, the JM6-A is my favorite in TT. In BATTLETECH, I’m not sure which I’ll prefer if I’m customizing. :)

On that note, I’m thinking about the Rifleman II. That would be a fun prize for a flashpoint. :D

if it was just "mediocre", can it still be called a cookie? Or would we want to rename it "biscotti"? (don't hit me)

I've never been fond of the Jager, well, not until Battletech. And I think that's due to the upgrades to the ACs that have happened.

With the return of the Rifleman, I might create a skirmish lance and plop a Rifleman and Jager both on the lance and see what happens . . .

I'm already thinking about "spreading" the quirks a bit more, not really creating new ones, but adding the new quirks to some old mechs, too. Just to make them still able to compete. Does a JM6-S with the Annihilators +dmg quirk sound scary to you? Or the hunchbacks with +bal or +energy dmg? The Archer's quirk would work on the Catapults or the Stalker. Firestarter with the Vulcan's additional range already gives me the creeps thinking about it ;D Ofc the good old AWS-8Q needs some love, too.

I'm a little sad HBS chose not to add quirks to all mechs, but considering all the cool stuff they are going to give to us, I'll survive ;D
