Today, and with the new dlc will we have the the same game as 1 year and a half ago...

Flashpoint Dlc:
-Add Flashpoints
-3 Mechs
-New Type of mission
-New Biome

Urban Warfare Dlc:
-1 New Map (with horrible performance)
-2 new sistem weapon
-2 Mechs
-New "events" just text
-3 tank for the enemies.
-New Type of mission.

Heavy Metal Dlc:
-8 Mechs
-8 Weapons
-1 Mini campaing.

The lack of content/€ of all dlcs is worrying.
Heres is the problem... The game NEEDS new mechanics, new ways to play the game, new missions or things that change the game.

Having 8 new mech will not change the career mode, it will remain the same way as all we have played 20 times, with the same maps, the same animations, the same voices, the same mechanics and absolutely the same that we all know.
The "mini campaing" is great, but we are talking about 20€, and we recive a "mini" campaing, that means only new dialoge lines to play the same biomes, mechanics that all we know....

To make a comparison, adding a dlc of 8 swords to The witcher 3 will not improve the game at all, it will remain the same story that you have already spent 2 or 3 times. Well, the same goes for weapons and mechs.
That the 3d model that shoots lasers is different from the ones I already had will not make the game have new ways of playing. We will play the same career mode that we all know.

By this I do not mean that the addition is wrong, we all love mechs, and we all want new mechs.
But you just have to see how interesting the mods that add new ways to play the game are. Because that is going to make you want to start a new campaign.

What about new argo upgrades?
What about new mission mechanics? Transport a objetc and extract, more diplomacy with factions etc....
What about new missions? 99% of the time is to deploy destroy mechs and finish mission.
You don't even need to look at what kind of mission you are going to play, just put your strongest mechs, and deploy.

This is why is so important add new mechanics to the game that extend it, that give us hours of play. It's the same reason why mods like rogetech are so interesting.
8 New 3d models, and weapons they won't change anything after a while.
We need the fighting to have some background, some depth. This is a game in which the whole story goes by text, you don't need a large budget to develop a little background, and not feel that all battles are the same.

What will happen when we finish the mini campaign?
You will start a new career, which you all know how it starts, how it evolves, the same events etc ... just because now you have a different mech than before in the team?

Give us something more to manage, new possibilities in the battle, because that will add hours to the game simply with the content we already have.

What about can manage your team in solaris, while you are still traveling through space ,and being able to invest the money (the money that once have the mechs you like is no longer worth anything) in a team of mechs and mechwarriors.
To be able to send your best mechs so that they only participate in solaris battles , bet, win or lose money, raise or lower reputation etc. ..... Just a idea

This is a constructive criticism of a game that I like very much.
A good example of this would be the Warhammer total war dlcs.
€ 18 for a new facction with a lot of new units, with awesome 3d models, creatures, animations, magic etc, This is a lot of work, more than 8 mechs, and 8 weapons that dont change nothing in gameplay.
Total war faction dlcs INTRODUCES A NEW MECHANICS IN THEIR CAMPAIGNS, which makes repeating the content you have already played something new, because It is not the same ..... But you give us 8 3d models of mechs with the same animations that we have seen for hundreds of hours and a mini campaign, which once completed .....
I am sure that for € 20 you could generate much more content and even more if we look at the previous dlcs.

:(

I hear you. To me, the Heavy Metal DLC sounds pretty bland too and I am not going to buy it until there is a really nice offer during a sale someday in the future.

Talking about the future. At this point the only thing that really interests me is, whether there are some more ambitious plans for the franchise beyond some new Mechs.

The Witcher 3 DLC were almost a complete waste for me. Hell, I tried to play Blood and Wine *twice* and both times got bored because it doesn't really matter that there was an entire new map and house to build and new mutation mechanics and somewhere in there was another story involving some sordid affair with a Queen. It was pretty much all of it just more of the same and largely pointless by the time I reached that point.

The Battletech DLC on the other hand build on the back of a solid core gameplay loop and every single one of them add in a substantial new mechanic: Flashpoint gave Career Mode a spine, Urban Warfare introduced not just the urban biome but also missed shots and made elevation more substantial and Heavy Metal gives us 'mech quirks.

On top of that ECM and COIL both demonstrate that HBS aren't falling into the trap of tiny incremental change to the game maths with say a new gun that hits a little harder and instead are explicitly choosing to make substantial changes and push the design envelope where they can.

Besides adding fan-favorite mechs and mech quirks, I think it is a little unfair to characterize the weapon adds as 'just 8 weapons'

LBX, UAC, NARC, TAG, and infernos are all quite a bit more complicated than existing equipment and add a lot of tactical options. COILs and the mortar also seem quite interesting, though I wonder if the mortar is the bull shark's thumper or a different weapon. I'm not sure about the SNPPC but I'm sure they'll figure out something to make it unique.

Has there been any announcement about ammo/weapon mode switching? Because LBX really wants ammo switching to shine, UACs need both their fire modes, infernos are best when you can switch between ammo types, and NARC required specialized LRM ammo (and so did TAG though that was later in the timeline).

The number of dislike OP got is why Paradox can keep doing their content-lite DLC practice. Its legion of diehard fans are willing to pay double what those DLCs are worth (stellaris, CK, BT, Planetfall etc etc) and after 4-5 months, a 50% 'discount' will get the rest of us to pony up.

None of the DLCs are bad but none of them are worth the $20 average price Paradox charge for almost all their DLCs either compared to other game studio's offerings. Honestly, only EA/Activision microtransaction policy is worse for value. The sandbox was an after-thought compared to the restoration campaign and it REALLY shows mechanically. Yet, all three DLCs did nothing but pile more of the same onto its tiny foundation. Currently, BT is just a grindy dungeon crawl - go in a randomly generated dungeon, kill defender, loot, upgrade, repeat. It's basically a turn based Diablo game in mech skin rather than a proper emergent gameplay sandbox like Mount and Blade. If that's your jam then fine but that's not what I wanted.

I'll be looking long at hard at BT2 before opening my wallet.

See, I disagree with both you & the OP. I loved the DLC for Witcher 3, & felt it was well worth the purchase price. Equally, I feel that this Heavy Metal DLC is also well worth the price (unless they make it a ridiculous cost, which I doubt). A Mini-campaign is nothing to sneeze at, nor are all the extra Mechs, Weapons & Equipment we are getting.....and these are listed as "The Main Features", so there may be some more stuff that Mitch will be telling us about over the next Month. Also, I am more than happy to buy DLC from a Studio who provides so many free updates over the life-cycle of the game. Many Publishers/Studios would have put out the game & left it at that or.....worse still, charged us through the nose for literally every single extra that has been added since April 2018.

Witcher 3 was a good example. I played the hell out of it when it came out, i bought both DLC's for it but never played them for one minute. I just bought them because i wanted to support CD Project Red. It's the same with the Battletech DLC with the difference that i actually play them, sure the Paradox DLC policy sometimes really sucks but no one can say that they don't support their games. I own definitly more EA games that never received a patch then i own Paradox games with the same behavior.
It's also funny what people expect from a DLC, for other games you pay 5$+ for simple skin or they get a couble of weapons for 10$ and it's fine. But here it has to be the whole Inner Sphere (who the hell has time to play this), all available Mechs because they are in a Mod and on top please 10 extra maps for 5$. I don't know how many people work for HBS but for a 20$ priice tag they will maybe receive ~10$. The rest goes to steam and Paradox whatever, now you have to pay your Employees, bills etc.. Just do the math how much they need to sell to get a living and best earn enough that we will get a BT2. I at least can promise you there a no golden toilets at HBS for this amount of money. And yeah i payed for less value i get here because i wanted to support something.

We still have a galaxy to open up, 3028-3045 era and plenty of chances to add some strategic layer for season 2, I feel heavy metal is just preparing the ground for the next wave...

Without the expansion pack, the update that's coming with it - which contains a lot more than just bug fixes, it contains additional features on its own wouldn't exist.
Add the expansion pack and the update together and it's great value. Of course everyone gets the update and its features without spending anything and still people whine.

Looking forward to playing some Heavy Metal!

The only DLC that I was a bit iffy on was Flashpoint. it just didn't seem to be worth the money they were asking for it. Mind you, I'm talking full price here as I couldn't get the Season Pass when it was discounted.

However, once the info for Urban Warfare started to come out and we got to see some of what they were doing, I scooped up the Season Pass as I felt that now, i would be getting my monies worth.

The content of the expansions isn't great value for the money. Most people agree with this, just look at the GOG and Steam reviews.
But on this forum you mostly have hardcore Battletech enthusiasts, who tend to disagree with this type of criticism.

I paid for the season pass right up front, and I'm glad I did. As far as the Flashpoint release, it may have seemed a bit light at the time, but consider the it was the basis for any mini-campaign they now add.

Alongside that the base code could be used to add a more strategic layer to the game too. I'm happy with the releases so far. I just hope HBS get the chance to flesh out the xampaign and none mech unit side of things.

Nothing beyond vague mentions by Jordan and Mitch in interviews/on streams that they would like to do more stuff. No concrete announcements as yet.

Strange, if you read around the forums one would get the impression that BT1 is dead after heavy metal and we are all waiting on BT2 and Clan invasion... Thanks for the info and confirming what i suspected to be a mountain of hearsay.

For quite awhile we’ve had a nice tidy timeline:

F9952A06-1C72-4840-821E-7ECAF0E37375.jpeg

It was comforting.

We rested secure in the knowledge there would be more BATTLETECH.

Well, we are fast approaching the end of that timeline and HBS has been playing it very close to the vest. There has even been a mention of possibly “taking a break from BATTLETECH” in the press. So yes, the future feels uncertain to me at the moment seeing as how we are going from a timeline to well largely... silence.

I understand fully the desire to see things like the Clans, and 4th war. I also understand that the provided timeline is fast expiring. That being said it seems like a forgone conclusion to quite a few folks that this game will be abandoned and everything that is perceived as broken or wrong with be addressed in BT2. I just think that that is putting the cart well ahead of the horse.

I hope that we can continue to see additions and improvements to the current platform that is still a toddler in essence.
