"Hi. Last night Daddy brought home Euro Starter Kits -
little packets of money in the new currency - so we
could familiarize ourselves with the coins before
January first. I thought - what's so hard? It is the
decimal system. But there are a lot of coins and they
all are so shiny and hard to read - we really do need
to handle them and try to keep them straight. There
is a 2 Euro (about 27 shillings or $1.80), a 1 Euro
(13.7 shillings or $.90), a 50 cent, 20 cent, 10 cent,
2 cent, and 1 cent coin. The 2 and 1 cent coins will
be almost useless here - maybe they can use them in
Greece or Spain. The biggest problem for me with the
new currency is the grocery store. Now they have
started to change the pricing - and we keep
calculating back to shillings to see if they raised
the price (we expect everything to be rounded up). Or
I look at a price and think - is that fair? What is
that in shillings? Much confusion for the next month
for everyone! Love, Mommy xoxoxo
