The new developer diary promises a major overhaul to war. At this point I don't think anyone will be able to fully digest the implications of the new fort system before playing, but I think it's reasonable to say that there will be far more major battles and far less minor skirmishes? Think about it, the majority of wars are going to be a tug of war around key fortresses and for the most part you're going to be sieging with pretty big stacks now. Couple that with the fact that you wont be able to chase down shattered armies so easily anymore and you have far less battles per war. So perhaps battles will now net you a hefty amount of prestige as well as army tradition scaling with the size of the forces engaged?

On the other hand, failing to chase down stacks may lead to prolonged war and therefore, more battles. Personally, I would like to see a larger percentage of regiments permanently destroyed in each battle.

Prolonged wars, maybe. More battles, probably not. Currently when you completely wipe all of the enemy's stacks you find yourself marching around their territory fighting all the 1 k stacks that they desperately muster in an attempt to form a new stack. The AI doesn't give in until you start sieging a significant amount of territory and so this whack a mole,1 k stack hunting, can lead to a HUGE number of battles by the time peace is signed. I can't see this being an issue in the upcoming patch. Off topic anyway.

I never considers instakills to be battles. But I suppose by technicality you are right. I love this idea, but think forts will be of little use in places like Muscovy where borders are extensive and it's full of low tax base provinces.

I think getting 100% versus medium power will require more time. Same goes for OPM, but to lesser degree. Most of time both side will be besieging something, side which suck enemy fort first will go to (major battle) break siege and force them to retreat. Rinse, repeat. If you suck one of at most 4 France forts you will get to juicy undefended centre, if France can't beat you in direct battle you are sitting on 50% WS. To get 100% WS you have to take all 4 forts will be more troublesome. Once you are controlling inner provinces of BBB, you have better chance for stackwipe, which would speed up things a little.
@Up Forts in Russia won't be that important like in HRE or France, but you can't neglect entirely. On eastern border of Lithuania/western of Russia they will play major role.

OT - prestige will be even more precious, due to fact increased garrisons. You will be unable to assault minor and his minor friends to get 10*(1+number_of_friends) prestige in matter of months for 50 ducats (reinforcements for mercs).

Prestige is still easy to get, the nerf only made one of offensive ideas totally useless waste of sword mana. There are a bunch of passive prestige generators our there, for example just by being ryukyu and having completed your ideas you don't lose prestige if around 60, conquest of "insert city name" triggered modifier, there is also the religious loyalty event spam.

I had not realized that there had been a change. Looking back it does seems early in the game prestige didn't go up as fast, but after the start of colonization, getting completion prestige bonus meant that prestige pretty much stayed close to max ever since.

I like that prestige is harder to get now, some events had -prestige options that were no brainers before and now it may be worth picking that -15 monarch points option instead sometimes.

The -100 for changing religion is too much IMO.

The -15 for getting caught spying is kinda too severe as well. While the espionage idea group is already useless in SP, these prestige hits make it harder to justify in MP as well. -5 prestige would be okay, but 15? Get all your spies discovered in a bloc vs bloc war, and suddenly your armies are getting stackwiped.

Generally, though, making prestige a thing to actually care about is definitely an improvement. I can now sing along "Doesn't he care at all about prestige?.." with a straight face :)

I still don't give much importance to Prestige to be honest. Which is weird, it's quite a nice set of bonuses on paper, but in practice... well, everyone has then.
And the missions that grant prestige as a reward are still ridiculously laughable. Gain 10 prestige for becoming controller of the faith? Really? When I can just snet a colonist to plant a flag somewhere far away and leave it rotting there and get a hefty bonus to overall colonial growth?

If anything I think the changes didn't go far enough. It's nice that I actually consider prestige in the early game now, but as the game progresses there's still enough passive modifiers to keep prestige at a high level without having to do anything. Religious Ideas and Glorious Monument alone will change the equilibrium point to 40.

If I could change it, I would make Prestige a more competitive system where it was decided by global rank or by your share of global prestige (a bit like trade power in trade nodes) rather than being purely local to each nation. After all, if everybody is prestigious, nobody is.

I agree the changes were for the best, but they could do a little more. Concessions of defeat prestige gain should scale with the difference in power, and some things that grant +1 prestige should be changed to -1 prestige decay (especially when it fits thematically, e.g. the glorious monument). On the other hand, -33 prestige events should be downscaled.
