Hi all.
I started a new game as a duke in the Byzantium Empire. I also have the new DLC the Roman one. So I wanted to see what happens when I use it as a Roman.
Anyways short version.

I started the game blah blah blah my Liege was at war with some Muslims and then Boom no more Byzantium Empire not sure why.
And the empire was divided in to the dukes (No war with Liege just.. happened) anyways a few years later the map looks like this:
F steam.. Crashed while I took the SS and now is in "offline mode"

Either way the Muslims now rule all the way up to the HRE.
Which come to think about it means I'm an idiot? I guess the DLC is for the HRE and not the BE..
Damit why did I think it's the BE?

Either way.. did this happen to anyone else? And what can you do to stop it (The Muslims taking over?) I tried my best.. I joined wars and tried to protect the other Orthodox
neighbors but nothing..

The DLC is for the Byzantines.

The Empire was destroyed because the Emperor had no more lands to take control of after the Muslim invasion won, because all his dukes were rebelling against him.

Restart the game and try again. You might get more luck next time.

The fatimids have a habit of invading greece which pretty much destroys the byzantines. Theres not much you can do about that, i've seen it happen when they were reduced to egypt only. I'd recomend starting in a period where the sultanate of rum exists. Usually this acts as a bit of a buffer even though the empire as a whole is weaker. If you don't do this then the seljuks are likely to constantly holywar/jihad you. The BE is still incredibly strong in the hands of the player though, so start off as a duke if you want a bit more of a challenge.

Thanks for the advice! Did that and right now I'm having a blast..
Was touch and go for a few minuets or hours but I'm almost ready to take the BE over :).

By the way what dos the DLC add? Dos it only effect you if you are the head of the BE?
What I can see is new are things like the factions and the way ambitions are selected in the UI as well as some new ambitions..
But I figure that came with the patch not the DLC..

I heard things about eunuchs? or castration?

Ugh.. Muslims really need to be toned down. Especially with regards to their invasion casus belli. I've had the fatimids turn Greece, Croatia, Hungary, Poland and Ruthenia to that ugly green colour from the alexiad start. I started as the duchy of karvuna, and I managed to steal enough land from the pechenegs and cumans while they were occupied with other wars to be powerful enough to declare independence with little trouble, after Greece bit it. Only reason i'm alive and not a muslim is because I immediately swore fealty to the HRE immediately afterwards. I think that invasions should be limited to when you have a king level claim (and thus the only way you can take them. Only other time you should be able to grab a whole kingdom at a time is a crusade or jihad. Decadence should also be less volatile, maybe have it increase on a yearly basis, so that the fatimids don't go on ridiculous conquer sprees just to keep it down. In case any devs were reading.

For a player byzantine should be fairly easy as long as you know what your doing. If the muslims decalre war on you, put all your levys on boats and wait for their hordes to dock on your shores. Via your boats it should be easy enough to get around your lands and pick the muslim stacks off one by one.
Once you removed the largest stacks from your lands proceed to counter invade Egypt . In a Jihad always try to go for the Caliphs holdings first, in an invasion go for the invading Sultans holdings first. (gives more warscore)
If your getting mangled to hard with jihads and invasions a good solution is to get an alliance with HRE and other strong factions around the meditteranean and if needed bribe them to join your wars.

main problem are the fatamids. if the fatamids were weaker, we'd see more jeruzalem forming(if crusades are changed into creatign a independent realm), better balance in eastern front, and with a slightly nerfed iberian taifa's maybe we'd actually have mauritania VS castille ect. over southern iberia.

here's how I stop muslim invasions:

go into you game files, the 'common' map, in there there is a map called cb_types containing the file 00_cb_types. open it and search for the muslim invasion casus belli then add a 0 to the piety requirements. Suddenly: no more muslim invasion

You'd think Paradox would learn from the Fatimids that they need to seriously tone-down the insanely op Muslim AI vs Christian AI.
View attachment 67803
So one failed Crusade facing 22k doomstacks later...
Putting the Jihads to 1187 was a good move. I also recommend changing the Muslim Invasion CB to target ducal titles. After that, they have been relatively peaceful.

While I agree that crusades fail too often, it's not because of the Muslims it's because the HRE almost never takes part and the Crusader armies are too splintered and can't work together.
