Part 1 - Ethiopia 1936
*ekhem*
Part 1 - Ethiopia, 1936
Welcome to my AAR. As you might have read earlier, I will play one of the most difficult countries that could be played in 1936. And that country is Ethiopia. First up, let's have a look at the options/rules:
Allright. I feel like I'm ready to go.
...Ok. That's screwed up. I think something can be done though... Let's make a few adjustments, so I can get to work.
First, we have to help our sliders.
Second, we have to do something about our army. If I am not mistaken, I am outnumbered 2 to 1 and italy's army is in a better shape.
Third and lastly, we have to upgrade our army to match Italy.
I did all I could.
Verdict(tum da ra da!) : You're still screwed.
First Scene
Background of the scene: Unfortunately for Ethiopia and Haile Selassie, her glorious leader, Italy's forces has started to march into Ethiopia. Ethiopia seems to be doomed... or is it?
Haile Selassie: ... Oh come on, you can do something.
Stanley Baldwin: Look mate, I'm here just for a cup of tea. Leave me sight, will you?
Haile Sellasie: Look. Those damn Italians will overrun this place if you won't do something, then there won't be any more tea to drink for you in this place!
Stanley Baldwin: *he burst the tea out of his mouth* Holy mother! We must do something!
HS : I... think I got a plan.
SB: What is it?
HS: Well, if you could lend me some of your forces, then I could encircle both northern and eastern Italian forces, Blast them to bits with artillery and bombers and make them BEG US FOR PEACE!
SB:... This is madness!
HS: No, it's not Ethopia! This could be REALITY! If you would help us, of course.
SB: But I don't want any wars. They'll just occupy your country. It can't be that bad.
HS: Oh really? Then... let me think.
*he pondered for a while, after which...*
*flashback*
Someone: Stop playing with knives!
*end of flashback*
HS: ...And what if WE'D declare war upon YOU!?
SB: Oh come on, we're friends, right?....right?
HS: (He doesn't seem to be convinced... allright. Time to take out the big guns)... Your army is worse than the army of the French!
SB: (!!!) That's it! You've asked for it!
And so, Ethiopia declared war on the United Kingdom and it's empire. The whole world laughed at Ethiopia, but Selassie felt that was the best move. The response was quick. You might wonder, what was Selassie's motives for doing what he did? Quite simple, really. If you would consider the occupation quality, United Kingdom wins. After either Italy or UK would be weakened, Ethiopia would fight for independence once again. Selassie chose the lesser evil. Besides, Italians don't like tea.
Unfortunately, this meant a lot of rebels against Helassie's rule. He ordered the civilians of his country to evacuate all italian occupied and soon-to-be occupied settlements in order to transfer all the resources to the UK occupied zones. All military forces were meant to supress the Italian onslaught as much as it was possible. However, in the same time, they were not allowed to be There was also a secondary objective of not letting Italians merge their lands of Somalia and Eritrea.
The plan was as follows. The below picture is a renewed map of a second copy of a hand-made military plan by Ethiopia.
It was a tough challenge for Ethopia and its people.
Day by day, however, the plan has gone as planned.
Finally, the time has come, that the Ethiopians were ordered to abandon their capital, Addis Ababa and do all they can to defend Dire Dawa, the last province under Ethiopian control between the advancing Italian forces.
There was some civilian resistance amongst the Ethiopian populace across the country, when the news finally came that it was taken by the British. At the time, Haille was said to say "Well. It's time to start all over again".
And here I shall end this part of AAR. I did all I could for the best of Ethiopians.... You really didn't expect me to win, did you? I tried to last as long as possible with both armies digging in my teritory. I've succeded, and the Italians only got a burden on their transports instead of glory.
Time to vote once again. Who's next? The more interesting options are as follows:
-Italy, which is QUITE pissed off with it's gains from the war(only 4 ethiopian provinces which give... nothing). That means more lust for conquest.
-Republican Spain, which will have a real civil war going on in it's 5th and 6th month(July 18)
-Nationalist China, which still had no progress with the communists.
Those are my options. HOWEVER, it's really up to you. What you might expect is that you might see something unexpected.
Until the next update, vote!
