    Real Strategy Requires Cunning

This thread is more than 5 months old.

It is very likely that it does not need any further discussion and thus bumping it serves no purpose. If you feel it is necessary to make a new reply, you can still do so though.

They don't have to make it though, as there were tons of Frenchmen in Algeria/Tunisia/Syria/etc waiting to be called up, plus tons of colonial manpower. All forgotten/underrepresented in HOI3 though.

I doubt those tons of Frenchmen would be suitable as recruits when we have no equipment, or, as Henry pints out, very old equipment to give them.

They didn't have modern equipment, though. Most of their weapons dated from the late 1920s and early 1930s.

Anyway, not hacking the game. :) Play the cards I am dealt as much as I can.

Yes, but that means you'd have the manpower, just not the IC to outfit them. In HOI3, you get neither. ;)

Hearts of Iron 3 (Their Finest Hour AAR): ‘The March of the Machines’
Chapter Thirty-Seven : 16th September to 30th September 1940

Welcome to Chapter Thirty-Seven where we watch from the sidelines in Africa as the rest of the world prepares themselves for World War Two.

So, first off the first part, the battles. And the most unimportant part of the Chapter.

4q8GeLo.jpg

First off we three battles in Africa. We won one and we lost one and our forces pulled back. Not because of the defeat - neither side lost any men during the battles - but because I told Tunis HQ to switch to a normal Attack Stance. We are low on everything in the Production Screen but I have been able to keep Supplies and Reinforcements in the green, so it is just a matter of time before they roll forward again. The Italians ARE in danger of taking Bengasi back but they are all HQ and Militia Divisions. And we totally control the Mediterranean Sea. We had one Naval Battle and won it.

aZnr7vy.jpg
aWDxiSl.jpg

yZ8S5NU.jpg

The Germans/Italians launched Three Naval Strikes but did no damage.

45b7Xav.jpg

What is more important? On the 16th ‘Their Finest Hour” was triggered. I assume this helps the UK in some way. The only thing I noticed is their lack of pressure on the Italians in North Africa and their fighting in Ethiopia.

fntdq5s.jpg

On the 22nd the USA announced their embargo on Germany. Finally. The first sign that they may be pissed at those guys.

On the 23rd I noticed the conflict with Spain had heated up as the Germans now dominate the battlefield.

A day later our influence over Portugal has come to a halt. No doubt due to our government being in exile.

kszvo3C.jpg

On the 25th I got the alarming news of the USSR mobilizing. This means the USSR will be ready for war by the 25th of October. When you remember that, in our timeline, the Greco-Italian War started on the 28th of October this may be a problem for the Axis. Is Stalin getting ready to “Free” Europe while the Axis forces are in Spain (and maybe in Greece)?

mX1GzqA.jpg

Future Greco-Italian War?

um2Z0Hu.jpg

On the 27th the USA announced their embargo of Japan. Oh my. Things are getting interesting.

So as things stand on the 30th of September, 1940:
R0lX1Zo.jpg
9vNQRV1.jpg

Total Losses For the War - Germans/Italians: 82,262 French: 203,944

Well, I guess they could be worst. We could have the USSR about to invade...oh right. Well, better Red Than Dead, I guess. Thanks for reading. Join us next time when we watch the world burn!

Chapter Thirty-Eight : October 1940

2Br5JxQ.jpg

Germans in Africa!

Welcome to Chapter Thirty-Eight! Things kind of warm up as Germany INVADES Africa. It kind of makes this chapter more interesting than it normally would have been. So let us get into it.

sX98nNd.jpg

On the 1st, around 20:00 (8:00 PM). it was announced that Germans were storming the beaches of Casablanca. This kind of invasion takes time. While it was happening a Naval Battle broke out between the French and the Italians in the Gulf of Bomba. We would win.

3YgLtL9.jpg

In response to the invasion of Casablanca a important province worth 3 Victory Points I told Tunis HQ to protect Alger, which would be the next target of German aggression to the east. Around that time the Germans took Casablanca. But that was the easy part for them. Unlike how you may picture that part of Africa, there are in fact mountains and hills surrounding that province. With no infrastructure. The German invaders would spend most of the month just trying to reach Spanish territory. It would take them three days just to take Rabat which was next door. They seem to have a total of six Divisions. Only one of which is Motorized and the rest seem to be regular infantry.

ihZqSMv.jpg

Too little, too late some of my Navy decided to hit the German invasion fleet. And got their butts kicked in the Battle off the Coast of Casablanca.

HyqcmBo.jpg

Around that time I noticed the new French Capital was in Tunis. Which made sense and I figured as much. The problem had been a Division had blocked my view of the red dot.

5i24Tyb.jpg

On the 7 of October America declared an embargo on Italy.

By the 15th the French forces were split between two enemy groups. And Axis forces were pushing deeper into Spain.

YJHqQNs.jpg

24Bg3i6.jpg

On the 19th Australia were willing to pay us money to produce a Potez 633. OF course we said yes.

On the 22nd the French Navy ran into two Submarine Flottiglias and won a small victory.

QMqE63R.jpg

A day later New Zealand asked for the same deal that Australia had asked for. We said yes.

uxiZInj.jpg

On the 26th the Italians took back Barce. But seemed to ignore the unprotected port of Bengasi. As they have been cut off from supplies for over a month by now they MUST be hurting. Picture them sitting in trucks without fuel trying to eat the leather soles of their boots while drinking their own urine. Yes, it looks like one is going to Bengasi but they stop later in the month. I don’t know why - supply issues? Ran out of urine?

On the 27th of October I am reminded of the fact that we still have Research and Technology!

S4Jdi2A.jpg
o2PwuPc.jpg

And yes, we went from 8 projects to 7 projects.

2KUXTPy.jpg

By the 30th I decided to order two new Divisions - why not? And on the 31st took more screenshots. Have no idea what the French are doing in the Eastern African Front. You will also notice that more British units are in Spain but have failed in containing the Axis forces. On the other hand those Axis units look kind of spread out.

IUBVvNe.jpg
5uBRLqL.jpg

whHK7Eg.jpg
iOMxTvW.jpg

During this month the Italians launched five Naval Strikes against Allied Naval units and the French Navy sunk one enemy transport.

To be honest the German invasion puzzles me more then worries me. A human player would have saved those units for a Spanish landing or the upcoming war with Greece. I wonder when that will happen...or will it? Dun-dun-DUNNN!

Okay, folks! Thanks for reading. Hope to see you in the next chapter.

Chapter Thirty-Nine : November 1940

Welcome to Chapter Thirty-Nine where we, after failing all objectives, will try to survive the war and keep France...well, in one piece.

Before I start, let me point out my Manpower throughout the month will be 2 changing to 3. Basically just enough men will come in to be sent out. But I will endure a problem with my officers during this month. Or lack of officer replacements. Supplies are not a problem as I have fewer men to supply.

uLpFmWc.jpg

The first battle is the Naval Battle in the Northern Bay of Biscay on the 3rd of November. The outcome is a Victory for the Allies but at a price for both sides.

The next day the UK finally took Ethiopia.

v48BL3P.jpg
q7D4FbM.jpg

On the 5th we made a breakthrough in Agriculture (5). I decided to continue and go for Agriculture (6). Always need more men for our forces.

fPCzKKS.jpg

On the same day there was another Naval Battle at the Mouth of the Loire. This was clearly major Victory for our side.

On the 10th I started to influence Portugal but this would halt within a week as we just don’t have the points for it.

By the 15th it looks like the Germans in Africa have opened the way to the Mediterranean Sea. I am not sure if this will let them in or the Italians out. And I have no clue what my African troops are doing.

And Spain is Spain. To be honest the Axis seems to be making some solid headway. If any player should know how hard it is to fight in Spain that would be ME.

dedwUYX.jpg
vj02Ck8.jpg

aE9zh6Q.jpg

ml8CxF9.jpg

And on the 16th we got some good news. Italy made a ‘Ultimatum’ to Greece and Greece told Italy to go ...well, you know...itself. So Italy went to war with Greece.

JaMWKLd.jpg
WrP0Ws3.jpg

On the 17th, as I laughed and laughed at the Axis, we made a breakthrough in Infantry Support Weapons (4). We replaced it with Advanced Construction Engineering (1).

nNFVhmF.jpg

The screenshot of Greece from the 17th showed why I found it so funny. Outside of two Axis nations, Italy (via Albania) and Bulgaria, being able to attack Greece no other Axis nation has access to the invasion.

The first land battle of the month, for us, happened on the 18th of November as our French troops attack the Italians in Beda Littoria. Before I continue let me point out we will be defeated in each and every battle in Africa. But nobody will lose any soldiers in these battles.

XlG85JO.jpg

The next battle will be launched the same day against Barce. From what I can tell both sides have zero organization within their Divisions which is why the French totally fail to make any headway.

Tunis HQ was not worried about organization and launched another attack on Beda Littoria on the 24th. Not sure why. It failed too.

RgiO7U7.jpg

On the 25th Germany was able to get Transit Rights from Yugoslavia. Now it can march over to hit Greece. If it can round up enough Divisions. Also supplies will be a issue.

On the 17th the French hit Beda Lottoria and Barce. Both sides have no organization but the Italians do have the advantage of numbers - being all bunched up into a few provinces.
ie6tUCO.jpg

On the 29th, not wishing to damage my own units, I tell Tunis to switch to Defensive Stance. I also try to get it to move it’s butt to the east but HQs are stubborn units.

By the end of November the Germans in Africa are spreading out, the Italians are clumping in Africa and not doing much better in Greece (notice the UK), and the Axis has cut Spain into two parts and reached the border of Portugal. And it seems the UK also liberated Corsica.

ajt6Erh.jpg
Z8bxquZ.jpg

e8Lbw12.jpg
oKZeSCh.jpg

EddpDIj.jpg
On the 30th the French STILL launched an attack on Beda Littoria on the Italians. Why? And a Infantry Division of Germans got close enough to attack my fleeing Tunis HQ. The Battle of Beni Saf was a French defeat but with no loses on either side. The unit was already moving so it is not like the Germans could pin them down.

PRZnsiL.jpg

So, next month should be a interesting one for the Axis. Will France be able to hold off the advancing German infantry in Africa? Will the Greeks be able to hold off the Axis? Will the Allies be able to help keep Spain free? Thanks for reading this chapter!

Well, or the Allies can do something soon. The UK seems to have jumped into Greece.

Chapter Forty : December 1940

BBsBnBj.jpg

Europe, 1st December, 1940

Welcome to Chapter Forty and let us see what the Axis will be giving us for Christmas!

During this month there are nineteen ground battles in Africa, all defeats for the French but no loses. Really, the French Republic is crumbling, slowly. There were no Naval Battles or Air Clashes as both those branches of my military were resting and recovering. Very slowly.

z5GnAv0.jpg

The first thing I do is switch our Air to Offensive from Defensive, just in case they have a target they can attack. They don't.

5P9715Q.jpg

On the 3rd I also switched to a Censored Press. I feel kind of bad about that, to be honest.

80EUl1A.jpg

2UW7Bik.jpg

On the 4th we made a Industrial Production Advance (5) which should help increase our IC. On the 7th we also made a Small Arms Advance (5). This Tech on the Research Project List was replaced with Mechanical Computing Machine (2).

On the 15th my Tunis HQ is fleeing German Divisions, the Italians and French near Bengasi are playing war, the UK has cut off the Italians in Greece (for a few days anyway) allowing the Greeks to take back lost territory, and the Axis seem to be slowly gaining ground in Spain.

Winter in Greece seems to be very wet

yMmgr3R.jpg

On the 17th of December we improve our Industrial Efficiency (5).

On the 30th not much has changed in Africa. The UK has withdrawn from the Greek Front and the Italians have started to push into Greece again. Spain kind of looks the same.

But I now really have to decide if I should close this AAR or continue. I mean all the objectives I started out with were never reached. I failed all the goals. France fell and the USA isn't even a member of the Allies yet.

Or I could continue with each chapter being a yearly summary of world events. To be honest France is not coming back from this defeat - but watching this world's timeline unfold might be interesting.

Any feedback would be welcome! Thanks for reading! If this is the end hope you enjoyed it!

Your troops need some org. Aren't you able to supply them?

But please continue this AAR and let's wait for the d-day. Until then your updates can containe longer periods of time, e.g. a quarter or half of a year.

Chapter Forty-One : January to March,1941

Goy3N6d.jpg

A Very Popular Plane

I have decided to go three months at a time. And give mostly a summary of what was happening in monthly sections. But first an answer to the question of our supply issues. The French Ships, Aircraft, and Divisions in ports or coastal cities are getting supplies to slowly increase their organization. The Divisions out in the desert, wandering about, just get enough supplies to survive and that's it. For example, the 83eme Division is sitting in Tunis and is 100% well supplied. So its organization is slowly filling up.

9liOxoK.jpg

3dtgPYo.jpg
xIdUjJ5.jpg

January started out with the USA taking control of Greenland and Iceland. I also took some time to assign submarines to the HQ in Beirut and in Dakar.

0AOB23C.jpg

Also it seems South Africa, on the 6th of January, wants to produce a Wing of Potez 633s. Must be a better plane than I thought it was. Battles in Africa was simple to explain. We are winning against the Italians and fallback from the German advance. Our victories with the Italians have to do less with our men and more with the fact that the Italians are starving and being bombed by the RAF.

d0c1HrS.jpg

There would be no naval combat for the three months, at least none French was involved with, but there were a few Port Strikes and Naval Strikes by the Axis against French Fleets or Allied Fleets with French ship within their ranks. The German aircraft attacking Spanish ports were even coming from a airbase in Africa, the cheeky bastards.

By the end of January the Italians were on the edge of total defeat in North Africa. The Germans in North Africa were continuing to push eastward. And the Spanish Front SEEMS to be slowly being pushed back. I think this is partly due to the landscape being mostly mountains but also the increase in UK Divisions AND the fact that German Divisions are getting their supplies via ports or over Italians occupied French territory.

wpVuB1A.jpg
KzbjMvB.jpg

YOtZzSF.jpg

Sadly, the Greeks are being pushed back to Athens.

OfWjNMC.jpg

At the start of February I get this...event that makes no sense. Near the end of the month the Germans complain (?) about the Damaged Forts at the Maginot Line. The USA also outlaws Fascist Parties.

Vh9Ipvi.jpg
EOwAnDh.jpg

By the 1st of March German was still pushing east in Africa. The Italians, but for one HQ unit, had been wiped out by the Grunts in one last final battle. The Greeks are still holding out and the Spanish seem to be...winning.

4FXyiE4.jpg
9uNCb4l.jpg

7eKx7A3.jpg
KzbjMvB.jpg

On the 16th of March was made another advance in Agriculture (6).

mYd7TT4.jpg

By the 22nd I told the Tunis HQ to forgot about Bengasi as a objective. There was no longer a threat to it from the Italians. They were all dead. On the 26th I decided to check on Gnorf's Desert Grunts. They seem to be resting, dug in, and just topping off their supplies and fuel.

vif4kLQ.jpg

The Mediterranean looks like this on the 30th of March. Also, we lost four Transports and a Escort while the enemy lost three Transports and a Escort.

So, our position in Africa has improved slightly, with the defeat of the Italian forces. Tunis can now focus on the Germans. Spain seems to be pushing back in some areas and the Greeks. Well, they HAVE held out for about six months. I wonder how much longer they can hold out?

I hope, without the Italians to worry about, without having to worry about Bengasi, and with two other HQs taking over for the Submarines, the Tunis HQ will be able to calm down and handle the Germans to the west. I hope.

Chapter Forty-Two : April to June,1941

AmvfLgu.jpg

Germans In Africa Running Out Of Steam?

Welcome to Chapter Forty-Two. This is a tough chapter folks. From both the French point of view and, funny, the Axis point of view. You'll see what I mean by the end of the chapter.

First, an overview of some of the basic events of the time period. We advanced our knowledge in the fields of Destroyer Anti-Aircraft Armaments (which with all the Naval and Port Strikes isn't a bad idea), Light Tank Armor, Mechanical Computing, Advanced Construction Engineering, and Industrial Efficiency.

BzPPz45.jpg

WZpgsRb.jpg

We added, to the Research Projects, Infantry Anti-Tank Weapons (4), Industrial Production (6), Submarine Air Warning Equipment (1), Electronic Computing Machine (1), Coal Processing Technologies (2), and Oil Refining (2). Not sure why, as many of those will not help France at the moment. But maybe when things get better?

Our Army is still a Veteran Army which gives us some positive modifiers. At this point we will need all the help we can get.

The Axis will launch four Naval Strikes and two Port Strikes against us. Enemy subs and raiders will sink three of our transports. In return the French Navy will sink five transports during this period.

YO2rrTs.jpg

In Ex-France a Partisan will rise up against the Italians and allow me to cause some problems for the Axis. For a very short period of time before being wiped out by Italian Tanks on the 1st of June.

The African Front

XW1Tjul.jpg

With the Germans approaching the city-port of Alger I added the province of Bou Saada to the south-east to Tunis’s list of objectives to defend. I trying to find a way to put backbone into the Theatre. I will have mixed results throughout the period as I try different things.

d3CXmGX.jpg

Ironically it will be the Italians who will prove a problem in Africa as a Partisan unit would rise up on the 25th of May just SOUTH of Misurata. By the 7th of June the rebels will reach the port and allow Italian Divisions to land! AAGGGHHH!

u5I7z60.jpg

I will end up telling the Tunis Theatre to add other objectives, such as Tripoli, and to switch to Offensive Stance in its Ground Forces. I will do this on the hopes that it will be able to handle the renewed Italian-African Front by being more aggressive. Funny enough the Brits in Malta are not too happy with the Italians landing in Africa and start bombing the heck out them.

5c4EoB4.jpg
bI7zcRe.jpg

Now, by the end of the time period there had been a total of nine defeats in Africa against the Axis. But the one final battle on the 29th of June is a Victory. An important victory against the advancing German Divisions because it shows them lacking any Organization.

4Ucavhr.jpg

Which may mean the Germans have found the limit of their supply lines.

The Spanish Front

gOZ2PTG.jpg

The Spanish Front is easier to show then talk about. First off, the UK is really helping the Spanish, even to the point of putting Brits into Spanish uniforms.

D17uDHR.jpg

Also, you may notice by May the Allies are pushing towards the northern coast of Spain and could, if they keep going, cut off a large potion of the Axis invaders.

1uwhOLi.jpg

And tell me I am not seeing things. Does it look like the Axis are being pushed back?

The Greek Front

What can be said about them? The screenshots speak for themselves - the Greeks are holding up the Axis forces. Forces that could be fighting in Spain or Africa or doing anything else but sitting there.

YSDxkA4.jpg
0yfBBFL.jpg
aZgAWZT.jpg

So, it looks like the Axis can’t wipe me and my French forces out yet. And it looks like they don’t totally control Europe yet.

The Germans/Italians loses for these three months were 333 Soldiers while the French lost 722 soldiers.

So the total for the whole war is now:
Germans/Italians: 82,595
French: 204,666

Still bad. But at least I still have a Navy, a Army, and....one Air Wing. Also, it looks like the Axis MAY be pushing themselves a tad too hard. We will see. We will see. Thanks for reading!

Hearts of Iron 3 (Their Finest Hour AAR): ‘The March of the Machines’
Chapter Forty-Three : July to September,1941

mHlO2Nw.jpg

Welcome To French Indochina!

From July to September I would be in so much pain as I watched the French forces in North Africa slowly be crushed that I almost wish not to write this chapter. You may wish to skip this chapter. The pain! The pain!

PROSjR8.jpg

vN9QmHu.jpg

First an overview, of course. We have advanced in Infantry Anti-Tank Weapons (4), Industrial Production (6), and Submarine Air Warning Equipment (1). To the list of Technology Research Projects I have added Light Artillery (3). I realize by now that at the start of the game I should have put most of my points into Research so many of my basics could have been up to date during the invasion of France. A failure on my part.

The pop up reports are telling me that the UK and Italy are losing important ships to each other, suggesting a raging naval battle within the Mediterranean. For example, the Italians sink the HMS Hood. Sadly, my Fleet is so low on fuel and supplies it is no longer taking part in the war at sea.

In fact the war at sea has somewhat cooled off for us. While the French Navy will sink three enemy transports and one escort, the Axis will sink only one of our transports.

The Air War is more heated and one-sided. The Italians will launch eleven Naval Strikes and two Ground Attacks killing 164 French soldiers.

The African Fronts

On the 4th of July I give the UK the objective of Misurate. The idea, being, that if the Brits take that port they cut off the Italians from their supply network. By the 2nd of August I will remove that objective because the Brits did nothing and by then the Italians have a few ports in Africa so taking that one port will do nothing to slow down the Italian Tanks.

Yes, the Italians brought Tank Divisions. The end result is our units being pushed back by both the Italians and Germans, like a candle burning at both ends. The screenshots of the African Fronts from the 18th of July show it all.

T8a27NR.jpg
QNtBFId.jpg

Also, due to HQs being wiped out I would have to rebuild our chain-of-command twice and once we would end up with a brand new Tunis HQ (with a new commander) on the 4th of August.

DWuh1wj.jpg

By the 14th of August the Italians have taken Bengasi which means the Grunts and the 5eme Division are cut off from supplies.

JPxZfqy.jpg
cLURpMe.jpg

On the 6th of September we lost Tunis, the French capital to the advancing Italians. The new French Capital is now in Hanoi, Indochina. I swear I will never make fun of a HoI3 AI government ever again.

RGzDbdp.jpg

By the 19th of September it is clear we will be losing our last port, Annaba. And our Fleet will have to rebase someplace else. I assign it to the Saigon HQ, which is activated. The lone Tactical Aircraft will end up fleeing to Corsica Island. Good idea when you think about it - could continue to help the Allies from there. In a limited way.

MhaU4z2.jpg
bpnn34v.jpg

Our Divisions to the east have been pushed into British Africa. Maybe the Brits will give them some tea and crumpets?

By the 20th of September Annaba has fallen and our surface ships are on their way to Beirut, their first step I assume to the Far East. Maybe Saigon HQ has plans to keep them in the fight by keeping them closer to Europe?

In Africa there were forty-seven battles, all French defeats, in which the Germans/Italians loses for these three months of ground combat was 613 Soldiers while the French lost 981 soldiers.

So the total for the whole war is now:
Germans/Italians: 83,424
French: 205,811

The Spanish Front

Once again, the Spanish Front is easy to explain with just screenshots.

ffC2qxZ.jpg

IIM7Z8o.jpg

As you can see, it looks like the Germans were able to stop their Theatre from being sliced into two parts and seem to be holding if not taking back some provinces. Hard to tell really. It looks like they brought in more Divisions to cover those ports.

uottvVs.jpg

Where did they get the forces?

The Greek Front

Nothing has happened. I am not even sure if they have had any battles.

2P0qe8w.jpg
XyDlzDt.jpg
frFFaOy.jpg

Both sides just sit there. I knew Greece was a hard nut to crack, having played Germany a couple of times in HoI3, but this is getting silly. Not that I want them to be defeated. By Jove I hope they hold out as long as they can. On the other hand I could have used the same image three times.

Thanks for watching. Don’t worry, France is too big to totally fail. Ha-Ha! Well, I better pack my things and head over to the Far East. I hear the people of Indochina love us French!

Am on the road at the moment so took the opportunity to read your AAR through from the start (well I may have skimmed a couple of the denser word-walls, but have read most of it ;)). This has been an interesting read, especially about trying to use theatre-level AI command as a major that always finds itself in a dire position. Brave and selfless :).

I just recently finished a successful game as France (my first after a few failed attempts when I was complete newbie), but micro-managing everything. This time I'd had practice using river lines as Russia, and had found out about the province assignment feature to get exp forces. Of which I eventually got enough to stock almost an entire (mainly UK) army! I defended in France, never advancing anything into Belgium. It worked - just.

Just wondering aloud, if set to defend in France, does anyone know if it is any good at defending such lines? If you were to stop now it would be an honourable finish, but if you want to keep going (and it will go through) more quickly now), I'll keep watching! :)

You can try setting invasion objectives to influence the allies, and that Lithuanian AAR shows how much you can do with a small force - and that is a government-in-exile!

Fight on - more power to your arm! :D

Thanks. I don't plan to stop. In fact writing up the next chapter which has a few interesting events. Some sad, some good. Oh, I know how well a small force can work, just peek at my Spanish AAR. I was going against Soviet Divisions before that AAR ended.

And Theatre AI isn't that bad. Playing Germany on the side with the DWI mod right now, invaded Poland in 1936, most of Europe is part of the Axis or conquered, the USSR is a puppet, and the USA is not even in the Allies yet. Charles Lindbergh is President of the US as the major American party is the German American Bund. And the German military is under control of only two AI Theatre HQs. :D

Hearts of Iron 3 (Their Finest Hour AAR): ‘The March of the Machines’
Chapter Forty-Four : October to December,1941

Well, this is a interesting chapter. A large part of our ground forces are wiped out BUT the war heats up around the world. Let us focus on the overview first.

First off, our units are in poor supply. All of them. And I am making supplies. But the Army has been cut off from it and the Naval units need ports big enough to handle all the ships. Not going well.

Europe is showing those tiny fists symbols of resistance but none of them are ready to rebel yet.

On the 12th of November is when things really start to heat up when Japan declares war on the USA. I don’t know why. The Axis was pretty much winning. Now the USA is in the fight and the USSR is in danger of joining any second now.

On the 3rd of December Portugal gave Japan Military Access. I don’t know why.

Canada requested permission to produce a Potez 633. I accepted.

On the 19th of December the UK imposed an embargo on Japan and Japan, on the 22nd, declared war on the UK. In doing so Japan gave the USA a reason to join the Allies.

On the 27th of December Finland and Hungary joined Germany in their war with...everybody.

Now, for our Navy. One Total Defeat and one Victory. The French Navy sunk one transport and we lost one transport to Japan in December.

Can’t delay it any more. Let us talk about...

The African Fronts(?)

By the 15th of October what is left in the pocket in the last true African Front is a bunch of starving Divisions huddling together as they are being pushed by advancing German and Italian units. On the Bengasi Front, which is more of a British Front, our two French Divisions are holding on with their fingernails.

By the 1st of November the last Air unit is assigned to Beirut HQ.

15th of November shows the still struggling units being shoved together. I am somewhat surprised they have lasted so long but I assume the units and provinces all have some supplies left. Now it is time for the French soldiers to sleep in rusting trucks and eat bugs. Also, the Tunis HQ is shattered and reforms in Hanoi? On the Bengasi Front the Iraqi are causing the Italians some problems.

On the 29th the pocket of French troops on the Africa Front is wiped out. And the Tunis HQ is now just a worthless unit which I can't seem to disband.

On the 6th of December the Beirut HQ, now in charge of our two remaining French Army Divisions, is asked to try to retake Bengasi. Stop laughing.

By the 16th we see little has changed in the Bengasi region.

During this time the Italians launched four Ground Attacks killing over 404 French soldiers.

There were also twenty-nine Battles, all French Defeats, which cost the Germans and the Italians 673 soldiers while the French have lost 465 soldiers plus thousands of my best men now in Axis POW camps.

So the total for the whole war is now:
Germans/Italians: 84,097
French: 206,680 (plus tens of thousands captured)

Now on to the other Fronts.

The Greek Front

They just stare at each other. Now much happening here.

The Spanish Front

Looks kind of like the Greek Front but I notice that the Germans have gained and then lost provinces. Seems to be a lot of going back and forth.

So not good all around for me and the European Allies. YET the US is now in the game. And, for example, can easily use French provinces in Africa to hit German holdings in Northern Africa. Or can land troops in Spain.

On the other hand I noticed Japanese units invading Philippines. Which means the Americans may be focused on Japan for the next few years. *Le sigh*

And the Japanese took a province from me but I was clicking and did not notice where this lost province was. I assume it was a island because the Indochina provinces are still untouched. Unless they started to invade Africa and I failed to notice?

Join us next Chapter! Will the Americans do anything? Will the Italians and Greek exchange New Year's gifts? Will Spain hold out against the Axis? Will the Soviet Union invade Europe and make it Red? Will the UK be forced to call biscuits cookies when the Germans win the war? I don't know.

Enjoying this "Alamo" AAR.

Just in case...Assuming you have another Theater in central-Africa, you'll have to select that HQ and "Paint" all Africa wherever you have forces. You should be able to delete the Tunis Theater then.
