Why do you all ask for the DAO map? While it IS good to look at, half its borders make NO SENSE before 1815 or at most late 18th century. For GOOD borders that represent the timeline in discussion, MEIOU would be needed.

Also I think that in terms of graphical quality, any speculation makes no sense. Remember how big the improvement was in CK2 since the earliest screenshots
I dunno about borders and coastlines (and don't care to much), but graphically I think it looks beautifull - and thats the first time I think I've said that about an alphashot. I really liked VicII and CK2, but this is just stunning. The landscapes, the units (look sooo crisp) and the trade route really impress me! The one thing that I hope for is weather and terrain being able to be shown on the political map - I've been hoping for it since EU1.

The look? Is exceptional.

It's not bad.
I like the little city arts, but maybe they should scale it down a bit, but I'm probably just being picky lol.

With some polishing (undoubtedly going to happen over the following year) I think it has the possibility to be a really beautiful map, the best EU map yet, hopefully both in graphics and accuracy. It already is very good looking but it's essentially CK2 graphics as WeissRaben pointed out so the credit's due for the CK2 guys so far I guess.
I think it´s a very good map, more realistic then the EU III map, espacially the winter effects in the video looked really beautiful.
Pretty enough without straining the graphics card to much and functional. What makes that picture so exciting is the new set of sea provinces that can introduce some awesome strategic situations.

I think the map is awesome. People just like to complain about things, in my opinion.
I think with keeping the VicII map, he meant the graphics.
Looks to me like it just got shrunk to the side, hope we get some full screen screens like Victoria 2 diplomacy, Production, etc screens are. I like them better for important things than this small side stuff. I would also love a war screen, not it on the ledger, like in Victoria 2.
Without expansions i assume. I Never realized how bad the first version was looking.
It's not about how it's organized. I simply love how it's drawn. That deep red and those metallic rings and all that fluff. It's AT LEAST on par as importance with the map, for me.
I like the fact that the provinces are those we have right now because it confirms my suspicion.
My theory:
They arent making the classic mistake of starting everything from scratch but building on Eu3+its expansions. This means the map gets a revamp but the provinces stay largely the same. Many of the decisions and events will return, so it wont take 5 years to rebuild the game to full shape.
My evidence: Beyond the fact that this would be awesome, a dev have suggested this in past EU4 threads; the pretty blonde Scottish guy who's name escape me right now.
If they use most of existing assets this game will be groundbreaking from day one instead of just being another "Simcity cycle reboot" that requires years to reach its old potential.
Btw the interface for the game shows all the EU3 elements. Nothing old, nothing new. This is another element that suggests what we're seeing is basically a massive EU3 expansion: They're taking Divine Wind, remaking the map, adding and improving it, and packaging it as Eu4. I really think thats the plan. And its an awesome one

Mmmmh. No, I do not think they will keep the same map. I DO think that it will be one of the last things they will change, though, after having all the important mechanics in place and "only" having to balance it all.
