Nice AAR. Just read through it from the start. I hope you can hold out for victory - make sure you get out of the war if France falls and Russia has a revolution.. the British will have more to worry about than the Balkans if that happens.

Nice to see an AAR about a small country too, I am playing a grand campaign as Moldavia at the moment and was lucky not to get annexed after fighting the OE and UK in the second oriental crisis (France offered no help). Anyway I went bankrupt and now things are going fine again - hopefully if it works out I can find inspiration from your Serbia and give you my own AAR.

After the occupation of Livno in order of protecting IV. Corps flank they had a opening for yet another offensive in the province of Zadar, but if this would be reality they needed more troops than IV. Corps could offer. The only large army the Serb had under this period was the British expeditionary force , so they took the hard decesion to split up the army to two armies. The newly created second expeditionary army recived the namn BEF .II and where slightly larger then the other British army. Their first task were to attack with IV. Corps in the province of Zadar and build up a static defence line. Another offensive after this would not be an alternative, the front was stretched to Serbia’s absolutely limit but they needed to grab everything they could so the possibility for an good peace would increase . When BEF .II together with IV. Corps they arrived forth of September in Zadar they meet some resistance from some newly formed regiment that had given the task to defend Zadar at any coast. The young, poorly equipment and ill trained Austro-Hungarian soldiers made an brave stand against the Serb-British army. The fighting lasted for some hours, the casualties were 1 450 soldiers for the Serb-British army, Austria-Hungary lost 2 000 men that day.

The Serb expansion had been greater than any expectations, since the war started over one year ago they had occupied a territory of 340 000 civilians, big resources of coal and grain that proved to be important later on, for the function of the nation. Most importantly after capture of the Dubrovnik harbour the Serb military had given valuable war related material like ammunition, small arms, artillery and even fighting men. A welcomed resource that were gratefully accepted was the machine-guns, and now nearly every Serb army had an Maxim Gun Corps that were a important both in defence and offensive matters.

King Peter I of Serbia was more then pleased with the performance of the army in the war, especially in the big battles of Beograd and Mostar that even the Kaiser of Germany William II had devoted some attention to. After the victories Serbia’s diplomatic influence increased rapidly and after Untied Kingdom had sent so much men and material it nearly become a principle to help the small kingdom against the great power, this was great propaganda. King Peter I had been on a long state visit in Italy to discuss the possibility to transfer a Italian army to Serbia to continue the advance along the coast, closer to the Italian border and eventually connect the fronts. It was a long fetched idea but Serbia needed all the soldiers it could get. After an on week of state visit the agreed that Italy would send an Italian army to Serbia, but they wouldn’t arrive until February 1916...

King Peter I of Serbia, a proud king

The Ottoman front gives both good and bad news, the Australia-Greece army still occupies Istanbul but have received staggering losses after several furious counter attacks. The British beachhead at Izmir had now been secured and the small British army is advancing trough Denizli. The Russians are steadily advancing in east Turkey and have now advanced to the province of Urfah. The bad news is that the Ottomans have pushed back the British defenders and currently have full control of the Suez channel. This is truly an strategic disaster for Untied Kingdom that is highly dependent on the Suez channel. The eastern front its all optimistic, the Russians are nearly advancing everywhere except in east Prussia, important cities like Prague and Krakow had fallen has a result of the massive Russian pressure. On the western front the situation is completely different than the eastern front. The armies of France are pushed back deep in their territory and their proud capital is danger, but one thing is going well. They are still holding key positions in western Belgium that results in precious German reserves is being hold up because of the stiff resistance.

Docster,

I am impressed, a tactical focussed Victoria AAR; although I suppose the great war scenario is a little more time limited. It is really interesting to see how the various great powers duke it out. Are peace negotiations like normal Victoria, in which case it is possible that the alliances may fall apart?

nice writing too, plenty of detail but also gets the game message across,

Thanks! I hope you will continue reading!

The peace negotiations are the same, separate peace is an option so the alliances can fall apart. I hope that I can be spared from that...

Impressive gains. I guess that Russian pressure must be starting to help quite a bit.

Absolutey! I have also noticed that Italians are getting a easier time to. I hope they will do a breakthrough now when there is a chance.

More, I want more.
Very good story. I dont play Victoria myself have played some EU2 and HoI but I will get my hands on Victoria :0) ASAP.
Like your writting and the pictures are perfect. Keep it up but dont push to hard for territory, as you said, the line of defense get very streched and it can back fire.

A question, when you describe how your troops attack, the artillary aim at their artillary and the troops march against their troops but then turn right and reorganise their strength and so on. Do you make that scenario up or can you actually see or read about it in the game. Just wonder since I dont have the game, yet.

docster,

I have just finished reading your AAR 'till last update and find it very interesting, and enjoyable. A lot of flavour add all those old photos! Congratulations for the excellent AAR!

I also want to add my 2 cents for future campains. British-Serbian offensive from Dubrovnik could have been made differently, moving all corps along coast and atracting the Austrians to go behind you to Dubrovnik. While they will try to retake Dubrovnik, you will be able to take Split and advance into Livno with Brits while sending the Serbians back to Dubrovnik to meet the Austrian cavalry. In such way the cavalry would become encircled and totally routed.

Thanks for all the kind word!

I made up the scenario and I will continue do that everytime a big battle appears, I thought it was quite funny to picture it (I’m not an expert in military tactics, I know :) ) and it would give the battle a new “dimension”.
