After playing some IFU, which I really liked, I have noticed that the are neither events, nor leaders, nor monarchs for the eastern tribes (Polish, Baltic, Russian). Therefore, I have decided to give you some suggestions about these very important things. Starting from Litauer, I will try to give you info about all these tribes, if you don't mind...

So to start:

EVENT:

The treaty of Volyn

Happens to: Semigalen, Borussen, Kuren, and the coutnries who own (at the start) Volyn, Mozyr, Kursk, Tula and Polotsk (don't remember their names, sorry).

Trigger: Litauer exists; Mindaugas is the ruler of Litauer.

Time: June 1, 1219 +- 1 year;

Description: 'feeling the power of the Teutonic knights, the Lithuanian tribes started to unify. One of the first such unification attempts happened with the treaty of Volyn, which made Mindaugas one of the most influental person among the foreign tribes than his own. The treaty stated that 5 dukes of these tribes were the 'high-dukes', which had more powers than the others. This is told to be the very start of foedalism in Eastern Europe."

Effects:
action A "Sign the treaty" - +1 innovativeness, +500 invest to Landmil and infra, -1 revoltrisk, -50 relations with the TO (if present), become a vassal to Litauer;
action B "Do not sign the treaty" - -1 innovativeness, -500 invest to landmil, +1 revoltrisk, +50 relations with the Teutonic Order, relations with Litauer -50, gives Lithuania a casus belli upon that country for 24 months.

I am joining Legolas in attempting to flesh out Eastern Europe, starting with Lithuania.

RULERS OF LITHUANIA <For IFU> -

Tribal Council - 751-1219

Mindaugas - 1219-1261 <There should be an event in 1240 allowing the player to either choose Mindaugas to be Grand Duke of a unified Lithuania or to stay with tribal council>

Treniota - 1263-1264

Vaisalgas - 1264-1267

Shvarno - 1267-1269

Traidenis - 1269-1281

Daumantas - 1281-1285

Butigeidis - 1285-1291

Butvydas - 1291-1295

Vytenis - 1295-1316

Gediminas - 1316-1341

Jaunutis - 1341-1345

Algirdas - 1345-1377

Jogaila/Kestutis - 1377-1382/1392 <There should be an event here allowing the player to choose either Jogaila or Kestutis as Grand Duke. These two fought over the throne in history but it is too difficult to simulate the civil war between them. If Jogaila is chosen he should "die" in 1392, if Kestutis is chosen, he should die in 1382. Vytautas should ascend after each of them no matter what>

Vytautas - 1392/1382-1419

Event: The Ascension of Mindaugas

Trigger: Litauer exists

Time: January 1, 1219 <+- 1 year>

Description: A mercenary commander named Mindaugas, having failed in many of his assignments, fled the city of Vilnius for the safety of the Duchy of Novaharodak. There, he was eventually elected Novaharodak's Duke and returned to Litauer, some suspected, to take revenge. Quickly he unified many Lithuanian and Baltic tribes of Litauer under his rule, and the Lithuanian tribal council was forced to make a decision

Option A - "Mindaugas shall rule as Grand Duke of a unified Litauer": +2 innovativeness, +4 centralization, +2 plutocracy, +500 land mil investment, -50 relations with Teutonic Order and Prussia <if they exist>, -2 stability, Mindaugas becomes ruler of Litauer,

Option B - "No, we will follow our ancient Tribal Council": -2 innovativeness, -2 centralization, -1 plutocracy, -100 land mil investment, +75 ducats, +50 relations with Teutonic Order and Prussia <if they exist>, +1 stability

By the way, for Legolas' Creation of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the trigger should be, for Litauer, "Selected A in the Ascension of Mindaugas", Legolas have made it so our events don't overlap now. The other countries' trigger should still be "Selected A in the Treaty of Volyn"

Sorry, but if there is no way to simulate crusades, so why should then any crusaders be simulated? On the other hand, there are (i´m sure), not enough tags to simulate the TO which found a state on european territory ca 500 years after the begining of ifu.

The way to do it I suppose would be the give the Holy Roman Empire, or one or two of the states within a crusade event. Perhaps with givens them Cb of the sates of the Baltic.

The tutonic knights can be a created event from either the above kingdom(s) conquring certain provinces (giving the option of making the TK, or have revolt issues there). Or allow one of the Baltic states be 'reborn' as the TK by an event (shall we accept Christianity?)

Opinions?

There's some forty or forty-five country tags still free, I believe; I think the crusader states would be a much better use than, say, african or indian or southeast-asian countries.

Crusades can be approximately simulated by War events and CB shields; as they were a quite significant influence on history in this time period, I think it would be a shame to leave them out.
