As you can tell from the developer diaries and open beta, the Victoria 3 team hasn’t really stopped working since we released the game back in October. We are very lucky to work on this title and are full of ideas. We have so much we want to share about what we are working on, and we will share news on that very soon.

Our enthusiasm is sustainable because your response to the game has been equally enthusiastic. The numbers don’t lie.

Players Per Day.jpg

Our data shows that tens of thousands of people are playing Victoria 3 every day, a humbling reminder that we have the greatest and most dedicated fanbase one could ever wish for. And, of this number, a third of these players participated in open beta - which is an extremely high participation rate!

These numbers give us strength! Your input, whether it is through the open beta process or constructive feedback on the forum, Reddit or social media, has been invaluable in pushing us to keep revisiting and revising our beloved game.

With 1.2 now live, we’d like to take this chance to thank everyone who contributed feedback and comments during the open beta. Your participation in this community endeavor makes Victoria 3 a better game!

The Steam numbers quoted are not measuring Daily Active Users which the graph in the first post does.
The numbers we present are verified Daily Active Users which is the primary metric we are measuring (together with Monthly Active Users)

A month ago it was Victoria 3 provided us with informative dev diaries while CK3 playing voting and guessing games, now it's CK3 getting informative and V3 doing statistics ......

We just released a pretty massive free update. We will continue with Dev Diaries for new content in the near future. It's understandable that you want more news and more new content, and as soon as we are ready to share that information with you we will. For the moment we'd like to focus on 1.2 however.

Okay, but where did you get the daily active users stat from? What's the source? Can I go and get these figures as well, so I can show them in their full context instead of just the small snippet you showed to make it seem good?

This data is collected directly from Steam

What other reason would there be to post it other than to counter the (more objective) steamdb and steamcharts numbers?

I'm not trying to be overly negative, but when we got third party charts that disagree this heavily with Paradox's numbers it's fair to question them. If they didn't exist I wouldn't be doubting at all.

The reason for posting it is to provide the metrics we are working with and to show that Victoria 3 player numbers are looking good. The numbers are still from Steam, but as mentioned: We work with Daily and Monthly active users. Not concurrent or average player numbers.

It's inspiring to see how much passion for the topic you guys have :)

One of the main reasons for posting this graph was to show you guys the numbers we are looking at, and that we are pleased with how they look right now. We decided to share it because a lot of people are being very interested in our player numbers and they are being discussed frequently in the community, so we thought we'd share some numbers not readily available to everyone.

It's not uncommon for our GSG's to start out slower and build momentum, a curve Victoria 3 is following.

Thanks again for your interest and staying with the game! <3

I never understood this argument. I don't think it's that much to ask that they learned from their previous games. Looking at their other games they have kept what worked, tried to change what didn't and then added on some new stuff (and lots of new graphics). For Vic 3 it's like they don't remember what worked and didn't work from EU, HOI, VIC, Stellaris and CK. They are repeating their failures and ignoring their successes.

Who is "they" ?

Paradox of today does not consist of the same people as we did 5 years ago, or 10 years ago or 20 years ago. Its well over a decade since we first split up into different teams working on different projects at the same time.

You could probably argue that there should be better knowledge transfers and training, but a lot of knowledge is not exactly quantifiable. And just because you think you know what you are doing, does not mean that the audience will like it..

I mean, I was in charge of everything we did until 2015, and coded and designed at every game, so in theory I should "know what works great for a PDS game right?". *cough* Imperator *cough*

Also, I'm curious what research is done before critical decisions get made that put we, the gamers at odds with you, the devs. In this particular case with Victoria, I think this launch's features departed dramatically from the prior games. Why did Paradox think that we would want a Vicky game with all centrally planned economies for instance?

I have no idea how the V3 directors make their decisions, nor how @Doomdark did for ck3 and stellaris , but in the past for the games I've been in charge of its usually been like this. "It felt like a good idea" or "oh this historical thing can be simulated by x, lets code it like that".

There was a time-period at Paradox where a lot of the design process was rather crazy. We went to the pub after work, had a half a dozen pints and talked history, politics and game-design ideas, and then the next day we coded what we remembered from the ideas the previous day. This was the time before smartphones, so the philosophy was that if neither of us could remember the ideas the next day, the ideas were too shit to be used. That was 2007 to 2011 era, before most of us got families.
