Commander Vilfred is declared Jarl of Trøndelag and Herre af Norge. To his south are what has come to be refered to as the "Norwegian Free Lands", independent city states who are the remnants of the Swedish-Norwegian Kingdom, allied together to fight against their enemy to the east.
Fylkir Hemming continues his project of integrating the Irish land into the Scanian Kingdom without any opposition from the locals. The count of Værmland declares himself Jarl of Bergslagen after conquering the split-away state of Jernbæraland becoming the third Jarl in the Kingdom after Skåne and Trøndelag.
The passing of the year 1244 is a good one for Skåne, the expansion into Ireland and even the victory in the continent by the chieftain of Blekinge. Before the end of the year a son is born to the heir of Skåne and he is named Hemming in honor of his grandfather. However the Estrids keep spreading their tentacles within the Catholic world, now stretching even as far to put their own as Hochmeister of the Teutonic Order.
It looks as if the Kingdom is entering an age of growth, the cheiftains, jarls and even Kings coffers are so full that they spend them on expanding their armies and with ripe targets along their entire coast and border, war after war is started to claim it for Odin and his subjects. Even the second son of Hemming, Prince Halvor, asks his father for permission to travel to the much prestegious Varangian Guard of the Greek Empire in Miklagard.
It is truly a rebirth of the Norse Empire in Scandinavia as the expansion of its subjects continue and then a as the year turns to early spring in 1247 an ambitious Warrior by the name Palnatoke amasses a warband of no like before. Palnatoke is a lowborn who have been fighting as part of the Royal Retinue of Skåne since he came of age, he partook in the defense of the realm against the Cross worshippers numerous times and every battle helped in making his resolve absolute and his dedicated to worship of the Æsir unwavering. Through the rewards he has earned in his service to the King he puts that wealth into building the Ring Fortress of Jomsborg on the island of Rügen.
He establishes the controversial rules for the Jomsvikings going against much of ordinary tradition of Viking tradition and warfare, among them being that looting was strictly forbidden by any member of the order. The code of Palnatoke as it will become to be known includes passages that enforces a strict code of conduct to create a sense of incredible military discipline among the members. Any violation of these rules could be punished with immediate expulsion from the order. Each Jomsviking was bound to defend his brothers, as well as to avenge their deaths if necessary. He was forbidden to speak ill of his fellows or to quarrel with them. Blood feuds between members were to be mediated by Jomsviking officers. Jomsvikings were forbidden to show fear or to flee in any challenge posed to them. No Jomsviking was permitted to be absent from Jomsborg for more than three days without the permission of the brotherhood. No women or children were allowed within the fortress walls, and none were to be taken captive. The goal of Palnatoke was to create an army who served the gods and not their own desires. In that he succeeded...
Another son is born to the Crown Prince who is named after Gorm the Old, the last Norse King of Denmark. A large war is started as well in central Europe over religious matter and disagreements over who is to actually be seated in Rome to lead their flocks. However Fylkir Hemming senses a opportunity....
... and takes it!
The Jomsvikings are called to Trelleborg to join the war effort which they gladly accept. Meanwhile the Chieftain of Desmond declares his own Holy War for Connachta to take more of Ireland before the Scottish do.
In order to fight so many wars the Lords of Denmark approves a new law giving the Estrid King in Hungary even more control of his demesne in the north. The Jomsvikings take positions in the island of Sjælland. The Hungarians are confident they will be victorious and proceeds to engage the warriors of Odin.
However they barely do any damage to the defenders and lose themselves more than half of their army. With the victory Palnatoke feels confident on his success and propose to the Allthing that a fortress dedicated to the Jomsvikings is to be built next to Uppsala to ensure the holy lands safety for all future. The proposal is accepted without hesitation.
With the stunning success of the Jomsvikings the victory seems to already be assured and Crown Prince Jørgen is promised that he shall be given the Chiefdom of Halland as soon as the war is won. The viking soldiers are quick to block the only entrance to the Scandinavian Peninsula.
It doesn't take long however until the rest of the catholic world hears of the Viking mimicry of establishing a Holy Order, even going so far to place it on the continent itself. The pope declares the Second Crusade For Sweden.
