The Legacy of Lancasters: An England HttT AAR

The Legacy of Lancasters
Heir to the Throne AAR
Following the life of the English Lancasters

Opening words:

"The better part of valour is discretion"
William Shakespeare: Henry IV (Part1) (Act V, Scene IV)

180px-Henry_IV_Coronation.jpg

Henry IV, the first of the great Lancaster kin, rose to the throne of England on 13 October, 1399. His predecessor, Richard II of Bordeaux, had ruled for 22 years when he had to leave the throne. He died in the next year.

Now it is 14th October 1399. Henry IV has been ruling for one day now.

The British Isles are fractured: In the north, Robert III Stuart is ruling the Scottish nation. In the west, Ireland is split between England, Leinster, Munster, Connaught and Tyrone.

Henry IV Lancaster has a son, who will someday become the king Henry V Lancaster. Only God knows where leads the path of Lancasters...

Are you multitasking on us? :p

You have another AAR to finish too, don't forget that!

Simple. I play the update for both of these, then just upload the pictures for my other one. Meanwhile and after writing the update, I start editing these.

Chapter I: Anglo-Portuguese war against the Auld Alliance

Henry IV Lancaster's son, the upcoming king Henry V, is already 13 years old and still hasn't heard of his father's glorious battles. Henry (not Henry Jr.)
wants his son to be as good king as he is.
On the night between 14th and 15th of October, Henry IV sees a dream. God tells him about the horrible deeds of the Scottish people and demands a righteous vassalisation. When Henry wakes up on the 15th, he is sure that it is the God's will.
The Scottish Kingdom is a perennial problem, their tendency to ally with France and make mischief on the northern frontier is becoming troublesome. We must ensure that the Scottish Lords pursue a more Pro-English line.

Henry can already see the vassalized state of Scotland: the English flag rising to the palace in Lothian, people celebrating, and most important, he can see his son build up some trust on him.

A army consisting 5,000 men, commanded by Henry IV, march to Cumbria. Meanwhile another 5,000 men army, led by Robert Knolles, goes to Northumberland. When the war is declared on 23rd May 1400, the English leaders can smell blood.

And so starts the English Subjugation of Scotland. The fighting nations are England and Portugal (The Anglo-Portuguese Alliance) versus Scotland, France and Burgundy (The Auld Alliance and Burgundy).

The most decisive battle was when the 5000 men army, led by Robert Knolles, defeated the Scottish army of 5,000 at Fife.
Lothian was occupied on 6th February, 1402. The war ended in 1403, lasting for three years.

Lancasters have won their first of many wars. Henry IV is already turning his eyes towards Ireland...

Perfect timing, I just finished watching Braveheart!

This looks like fun - it's never too early to put down the Scots! (Did France or Burgundy actually do anything during the war, or just stand around looking French?)

Chapter II: Henry's Irish Aggression

180px-King_Henry_IV_from_NPG_%282%29.jpg

During the cold winter of 1403, Henry IV built a new palace for him and his family to live. After the winter was over, Henry realized that the British Isles are not secured. Ireland is ruled by four small clans: Tyrone, Leinster, Connaught and Munster.

On a sunny morning on the fourth day of March 1403, Henry holds a speech:

"Dear peasants and nobles of England! Scottish clans were brought under the English control just a year ago. But we are not secured! The clans living in Ireland are a threat to the safety and wealth of the English kingdom. So hereby I, Henry IV Lancaster, king of England, declare war on the four clans in Ireland. Onwards, brothers and sisters! Onwards!"

All of the Irish nations received a declaration of war. One of them, Tyrone, was allied to Brittany:

In August Tyrone fell. Nobles in England were celebrating.
Progress on the other nations was going well.
In January 1405, the armies of England and Brittany were drawn to a conflict in Morhiban. The result was a decisive victory of England. Brittany was utterly crushed.

By October all of Ireland was conquered. Henry managed to convince the English nobles and peasants that it was God's will to take Ireland. So they are considered as English core provinces.

When Brittany was defeated, they were begging for mercy. Henry IV had only one demand.

They had to accept.

And because of most of the pictures are just plain editing with some nice effects, here's a map with some more intensive editing and creating:

Henry IV now waits for something to happen. His dreams have come true.

Please comment and say something about the maps!!!

A Great update, but the title, The Legacy of the House of Lancastor, will you continue this awesome AAR if they die out?
