Personally, I'd love to see the devs go through old events with a fine comb, trying to restore some of the balance that I, personally, feel has been lost since around 2.4.5. A few examples that leap immediately to mind:
- Childhood education - as has been mentioned prior, some of the childhood foci feel completely pointless and are rarely chosen (ex. Pride). I feel that they need to be rebalanced to try and make all of the choices as viable options.
- Court Physicians - as much as I dislike the position, it's here to stay. The events tied to their aid, though, still feel rather unbalanced, as I feel it is these events around their treatment that leads to an outbreak of lunatics and disfigurements that seem to crop up far more often than they had before.
- Societies - Hermetics are a remarkably anachronistic group to include in a game about the Middle Ages, since their prominence was either in antiquity... or the Renaissance. Not in-between. Even so, I could tolerate it more if it wasn't such a huge society in game. I've started up several games to find the Pope as the leader of the society, which feels rather... off.
- Secret Cults - These have been getting fine-tuned since their implementation, and perhaps could still use a touch of work on them. I'd love to see them expanded to allow for heretical secret cults, too, rather than being limited to the parent religion.
- Witch Hunting - Not a thing during the Middle Ages. In fact, belief that witches and the like were real was considered heresy, not the supposed practice itself. Having the Court Chaplain hunt heretics to burn at the stake feels, much like Hermetics, rather anachronistic - at best suited to the very tail end of the game's timeline.
- Pregnancy Events - There's at least one event that is guaranteed to either make the mother-to-be gain gluttonous or fat, or to give the child a disability. Needless to say, this is... rather unbalanced, and leads to an outbreak of disabilities and the fat trait (which is also far too common).
It is things like these above that have stunted my desire to play CK2 over the past many months. Holy Fury was a remarkably strong leap in the right direction, but as hinted at above, there are still a lot of artifacts from past patches (which, being patches instead of DLC, you couldn't opt-out and avoid) that crop up and ruin the wonderful immersion CK2 is capable of.
Now, this all being said... For
new stuff I'd love to see added... More flavor for Orthodoxy. As has been said before, Orthodoxy has so little content, with almost nothing unique added since Legacy of Rome back in
2012. At the very least, could we add some mechanics to flesh out the Ecumenical Patriarchy, and perhaps autocephalous patriarchs as well? Something to help simulate the struggle between church and state which went on in the East, somewhat similar to the struggle in the West with the Pope and Holy Roman Emperor. Key difference being, mind you, the power the Byzantine Emperor held over the Patriarch, often directly appointing the man to the position. Even so, there were a fair few Patriarchs who proved to be a thorn in the side of the state. This is definitely the subject I feel the devs should focus upon for their next project, especially with how important Orthodoxy was for the Medieval world.
Ultimately, regardless of what the devs choose to focus upon, though, I would love if it played more to historical authenticity and plausibility rather than an almost Hollywood-esque vision of how the Middle Ages were. Something to bring back the deep and amazing immersion that made me fall in love with CK2 to begin with
