Well, I guess as player, it's not hard to hold the Middle-East by either Chokepointing the Syrian gap / Port Said, or piling INF in the mountains.

still, thru Persia is the only time I see German AI have a successful Afrika campaign, so... bit cheap there =P (j/k)

I think it would have been an interesting "side-show" to the main European theatres, making sure that the Germans didn't break through into Africa and India.

A "side-show" that involves 100s of divisions is not really a "side-show", but a major front. I'd rather have those divisions face off against each other in mainland Europe. Alot more epic if you ask me. The final battle against Fascism will be waged in the hills of Iberia, the shores of France, and along the river banks of the Rhine!

Well, I guess as player, it's not hard to hold the Middle-East by either Chokepointing the Syrian gap / Port Said, or piling INF in the mountains.

The Axis actually broke through El Alamein and seized Suez in mid 1942. But then the British pushed them all the way back to Tripoli.

BBC News

"This is BBC News broadcasting directly from London."

"I'm Bob Trout, and I'm here to bring you the very lastest from the front."

"The ferocious German counterattack has run out of steam as Allied reinforcements started flooding into the ports of Lisbon and Setubal. American troops defending the countryside surrounding Setubal were overjoyed when their French allies came to aid them.

"All along the front, Allied forces have pulled back and established a solid defensive line. A line that so far has proved impregnable."

-------------

The arrival of British and French reinforcements has saved our troops from a disastrous defeat. The US Third Army and the British 8th has managed to hang on to the ports of Setubal and Lisbon. But even more importantly, they have managed to hold the city of Evora and its surrounding hilly countryside. Control of this vital position prevents the SS from striking directly at our ports. It also prevents them from driving us back to the sea.

Sticking out like a sore thumb, we can expect the Evora salient to come under intense German attack very shortly.

Great AAR, really entertaining.

With Germanys attention on Spain, perhaps a landing in Northern France is a possibility.

Hope there is an update soon.

A 1945 landing in Northern France sounds quite reasonable, yes. And thanks, I'm quite happy you find my AAR enjoying.

I shouldn't spoil too much, but I have to tell you that the coming 'Battle of Evora' will be one of the most decisive and bloody battles of the war. The numbers of men involved in the coming climatic battle will reach Kursk-propotions.

BBC News

"This is BBC News broadcasting directly from London."

"The news is just in that German forces, spearheaded by several SS panzer divisions have begun their offensive to capture the province and city of Evora."

"The once small and tranquil town is now one of several strongholds in the Allied line. Facing the Germans are the US Third Army and the British 8th, who have entrenched and fortified several defensive lines stretching for many miles across the hilly countryside, covering vital transportation routes and strategic positions."

--------------

Our troops will not hold for long. The capabilities of Allied infantry to defend against German panzer have proven lacklustre. Even with superior firepower, Allied forces are suffering horrendous casualties. We expect this to only be the beginning of their offensive. In the following days, the Axis will most probably commit twenty or more divisions.

Armoured reinforcements must arrive soon to blunt the enemy advance.

Jesus Christ look at that stack

Allied intelligence suggest that the stack is far smaller than it looks like. :) *cough*checkthenumberunderthecounter*cough*

Oh my God, that German stack of doom...

Once Allied material superiority starts to really kick it, I'll show em what a stack of doom looks like.

Grades? College? I'm unemployed at the moment actually. I decided to take a year off, find a job, and then next autumn start studying at the university.

It was a pretty big mistake. Finding a job wasn't as easy as I thought it would be, even with a wide network of acquaintances and a well-written CV. So I often spend my days sending out job applications, working out at the gym, chilling around with friends, dating girls and refining my skills as a pianist.

I guess sooner or later I'll find employment.

Same happened to me, right after high school I decided to work and make some money before university.

In 2 1/2 years I prolly worked about 3-4 months total.

Then I went to University for 2 years, dropped out and within 3 weeks found a full time salary job, with full benefits that I absolutely love.

Funny how life turns out sometimes.

BBC News

"This is BBC News bringing you the very lastest directly from the front."

"Under the command of German Field Marshal Rommel, the German 5th Army, supporting the German 2nd, has been committed into battle at Evora."

"The Axis are pursuing relentless frontal assaults against Allied positions, assaults that sometimes succeed, but are quickly pushed back by superior Allied troops."

"Not only do our men have a huge advantage in artillery and airpower, but the arrival of several American armoured divisions have allowed our men to face the formidable enemy panzer on equal terms."

"At this very moment, Allied tanks are clashing with German panzer in engagements whose scale we haven't seen since the battle of Kursk in 1942."

----------------------------

So far, the valiant defenders of Evora have held firm. But the Germans have only committed a fraction of their men. Given the importance of Evora, the need for reinforcements are urgent. We can expect Evora to turn into a huge bloodbath for both sides, as the numbers of soldiers involved are starting to near epic propotions.

Do you have any other forces you can spare for a landing somewhere else? That'd split up their forces pretty quickly.

We don't want the Axis to split their forces. We want them to throw everything they have at us.

That's the entire point of landing in Portugal. Tie up as many Axis divisions as possible, even if it means enduring the type of attritional warfare that the Western Allied nations historically tried to avoid. Allied naval supremacy allows me to land troops everywhere, and I intend to fully exploit that advantage to destroy the Wehrmacht.
