I, too, wish for updates... my mother's mother's mother's family is from Strasbourg, and I'm quite wondering what becomes of your Lorraine (as they would of course hail from Alsace).

And, if you haven't already.... and of course this might not be possible for ages yet... I'd like to put in a request for the colonization of the four Californian provinces ;) (Sac, Monterey, Sierra Madre and San Bernardino).... surely the King or Queen of Lorraine can find a use for all that Californian gold...

You know what would be REALLY nice? A thread with all of the Land of Lorraine posts without the spam. Just the Velo posts. Wading through 15 million pages of spam to read this thread has outweighed what was a great story.

I just read the first few pages of this thread and am amazed. This is one of the best, if not THE best AAR I have read. I started reading last night at 7 and thought it would just be another AAR. I stayed up until 2 AM on a school night reading this... You just can't stop reading it. I suggest you make a book out of this...or maybe just some other Alternate History book. Maybe based on an EU game. This is Incredible.

Hey guys....posted a couple of things in the general forum, and just HAD to come here too....sadly, my computer died, taking the Lorraine game with it. :(

BUT!!!

I have gotten a newer, better computer, and have begun the Lorraine crusade again....this time, with the goal of running the kingdom without relying on bankrupcy at all, and if possible, without ever even taking loans!

I have also decided not to post this new AAR till it is completed, lest I run the risk of getting in the position of not being able to finish it!

Thank you though, for all the wonderful words of encouragement here! You guys were what made the writing so enjoyable. :)

:) Thanks guys!

To at least bring some element of closure to it, I was able to take the game into the late 1600's before I lost it, and in that time, managed to unify the Germanic states under my rule (three peaceful annexations, with the rest requiring some.....shall we say....forcible convincing), and had colonized/captured the east coast of North America from Maine to Santee, conquered the Iroquois and the Aztec (beat Spain there!), and largely kicked the Spaniards out of North America. Had a tough time with BB wars for a number of years for eating so many minors, but once the economy was up and humming, it was a pretty simple matter to keep everybody off my back, and what steel didn't do, a bit of coin and diplomacy took care of.

My biggest, grimmest war came when I ate Bohemia in a single bite and exposed myself to a p*ssed off Austria and Poland....touch and go for a while, but in mid stream, Poland imploded and was slowly devoured from all fronts....after that, things were pretty quiet in Europe and almost all of my attention was focused on the New World.

Things will be (and have been thus far) very different in my new game....not nearly as fast, since I'm trying my best not to make use of loans at all....that's pretty harsh, but it's getting there....:D

Thanks to all! Will do....and in fact, when I get it written up, I'll be posting it right here....played through to 1587 so far, and wow....a startlingly different game....so far, I've made good on not taking ANY loans, and I think I'm big enough now where I won't have to....got several plans....several story threads working in tandem on this one, and I think in the early goings I was the recipient of just about ever bad event there was (two troop desertions which shattered my army in the face of stronger enemies, bad governmental policies which ate half my infrastructure and trade investment, corruption, instability, temporary insanity of the monarch, scandal at the court...the works....seems like every bad event out there had my name on it, which of course, while annoying as h*ll, really gave me a lot of good story elements to work with! (and, having said all that, to be fair, I've gotten my share of good events too!).

So....should be able to get some more playing/note taking in this weekend, but I'm not going to start actually writing anything up till the game is done....that way, I can get a feel for the entire story, and figure out the best way to approach it. Stay tuned! :)

Sadly, not this *particular* one, no. It died when my computer containing the save file died, but....:) I couldn't stay away, and so, armed with a new computer and a reloaded IGC, I'm plunging back into the waters, and making another run with Lorraine!

The writing has begun, and The Lands of Lorraine - Fool's Gambit is beginning to take shape! :)
