I've never cared about what some group of people say is the best game of the year. I've bought and enjoyed games that have gotten bad reviews, and I've bought triple A games with universally high ratings, and I've hated some of them. And, of course, I've enjoyed games that are practically unknown and have no chance of winning any awards with these people. I simply don't care about reviews or awards.

And don't even get me started on movie reviews and awards. They're even worse.

There are some posters on here that have complained about the generational differences in the gaming community. I think there is some truth to that. But honestly, as kids get older I've seen more and more people grow bored of their FPS and they move onto other stuff. We just don't see it as much because the young people are the ones going to E3 and other Cons and we're the ones playing the Paradox games after work. There is a topic someone can look up where they did a poll on the age of people playing these grand strategy games. There were very few people in their teens, mostly in their middle to late 20's all the way down to the 40's and 50's for average gamers. We're out there. We're just either at work or at home all the time!

Back to modern FPS...It's pretty much the same game repackaged with different character skins, especially when it comes down to games like Call of Duty and Halo. And not only that, but they actually have to stick gamers with an 'Aim assist' to reduce the difficulty of playing the game even further. And the entire idea of 'regenerating health' is for wimps and wussies. Oh! I got shot by a gun. No problem mate! Give me 5 seconds and I'll get better. It's stupid. But companies are taking less risks nowadays because of the economy and they will keep on at it as long as the enablers in the market continue to buy their games. Don't like it? Don't buy it.

You know the kind of first person shooters I miss? Quake 3 Arena. Now that was a man's man of a game. If you dare to even think of camping on that game, you will have your head shoved up your own ass. These are the kinds of FPS's I like and what society is missing. It's a shame, but it is what it is. Luckily the modding community is there to help you out where companies fail!
