The lack of flavor for Asian nations is unbelievable

Rarely do I look at advisors other than when they die. Almost never do I zoom in enough to see unit models (though the new battle screens may make this moot). That said, I'm not swayed hugely by graphics, but by gameplay. In terms of gameplay, Ming and Japan have unique systems of play found nowhere else. That's pretty good flavour. Not a massive amount, but definitely a believable amount.

You can't be serious?! They come out with a patch that enhances gameplay for most of the non-European regions dramatically, and you complain because you don't like the advisor pics?!!

Though I'm probably feeding a troll, it may interest you to know that they DO, in fact have different unit models, if you have the right unit packs. I won't comment on how good or different they are, since I'm also rarely zoomed in closely enough to even tell.

And I'm sure if there's enough demand for culture-specific advisor pics to make it cost-effective for them to create, they'll release a DLC that does just that.

No they don't. Only Japan has an unique unit model. I have ALL possible units packs and i can tell there is a generic asian model for Ming , Manchu, hordes and a generic muslim model for sunni hordes (Golden Horde, for example).

You can't be serious?! They come out with a patch that enhances gameplay for most of the non-European regions dramatically........

.

Are you talking about the new rebel system?

Yes, and India as well, I must say. Very cool to play there, really.

Not to burst your bubble but, viewing of the unit sprites is about .00001% of any game. Are you sure it's a priority for that sort of 'flavor' instead of events?

I played as Navarra, and was surprised to see french unit with a different sort of outfit, and a different kind of spear/pike thingy!

but i got annexed that time, it was my first game :p

But it wasn't that revolutionary a feeling, to see them looking slightly different, and making any change to gameplay? absolutely not...

You could add anime portraits of power rangers into the game, and it wouldn't effect actual gameplay any. It would just look odd. Which, is I'm sure possible to mod because I have seen a Putin flag for russia, a american flag -ball with sunglasses and cigar, etc. P:

I don't see how the big uproar would be over the unit sprites when they continually release new ones every few month, looking at the dates of all their releases.

It would be nice to get a general feature on generic units that add maybe a flag design to the front of the chest padding, like which the french HYW units have. :p But I would not scream at the forums that it's a necessity in a game where other people are having issue with crashes every time they get an event right now.

Manchu has unique sprites, but it changes to generic Asian if you form Qing. And sadly, Qing has no flavor events, which is very odd considering they survived the EU4 period and had many things going on. Eastern Religions also suck, with Shinto being a weaker version of Shia and Confucianism and Buddhism being worthless. But I'm sure Paradox will make an East Asian DLC someday

Yes Asia could do with some flavour, but making a thread like this with an angry emote and writing: "ermahgurd, Asia is like no fun, ples more unit models and more advisor portraits" isn't going to get you anywhere.
If a developer would have a look at this thread, he would think: "funny how people make such bad threads, lol."
This isn't exactly friendly, but at least give us some arguments supporting your request and try to be suggestive, rather than demanding.

I have actually been making a list of Japan specific events as I play them. Thought you might be interested to see:
  • "Incident at Honnoji" A general betrays and kills you. (No matter if Diamyo, Shogun, Emperor, or any other factor, this can fire.)
  • "Western Trade" The westerners bring new ideas and new gods. (Suffer a modifier that gives -5% missionary strength, -3% mil tech, and -1 yearly prestige)
  • "Fuki-e" A government official began inquisiting against Christians. (Spawn an army of Catholics bigger than your force limit and convert the province back to Shinto)
  • "Province Converts" A province has converted to Catholicism. (Self-explanatory)
  • "Religious Tensions" Religious frictions in our province have gotten out of control. (Either an army of peasant rebels or an army of Catholic rebels, generally larger than your force limit)
  • "Castles" New Castle tech is encouraging the renovation of Japanese castles (Build/upgrade fortifications without having to spend Monarch Points.)
  • "(Japanese Words)" The Imperial Road system needs more funding. (Get a temporary tax boost by spending a lot of money)
  • "Wokou" Japanese pirates are terrorizing Ming and Korea. (Either fund the pirates (Pretty expensive) for a small reward or get a medium-sized boost for relations)
  • "Ginkakuji" Culture prompts the building of a new temple. (Build a temple without paying monarch points)
  • "(Japanese Words)" Our culture is great! (Cheaper adm and dip tech until monarch death for one time investment of cash and points.
  • "(Japanese Words)" Bushido is great. (Cheaper mil tech after one time investment)

Oh, and by the by, this is an outdated list because I'm in the School's computer lab and don't have access to the list that is twice as long back home. There's also all that flavour for the religious conversion of Japan.

He's talking about the doubling of provinces in Asia, the increase in base tax in many regions, the addition of national ideas for many countries, trade nodes, etc.

Because I don't look at the advisor pictures. I also don't look at the unit models really. I also don't play the game to "feel immersed," but rather because I like the mechanics and seeing how I can get around them or use them to my advantage.

Hindu, though, its the best religion out there. I mean, the events with ruler personal spiritual path are great flavor (and they can add 2 points to ruler skill, too)

One even adds 4, but you have to have no heir, and it precludes you from getting one (you go celibate)

Who cares about advisor pics? Who even looks at them 99% of the time? And sure, unit sprites are an idea, but honestly, they aren't needed. Stop whining that bad, they will get to it most likely.

..how does going celibate with no heir work out when he dies though?
a low legitimacy king traded for what could be a short ammount of life with a +4 to your rulers certain stat? not sure i would trade that much in :p

Well, thats the tradeoff, your dynasty ends. Otherwise +4 to monarch skill would be just too awesome. I mean, +2 is great already (even if you have to wait 5 years with some neative modifiers and it doesnt trigger easily, mtth of 120 months)

But yeah, if you are attached to your dynasty, i wouldnt pick it. If you get that event, you still can go with the +2 route. Although i wonder if you could overcome the heir chance malus by stacking positive bonuses from marriages, trade goods, or just hoping for random event giving you a heir.

But besides that, the event descriptions are great. Next time i am picking Ganesha to see the Gangetic events.
