Just went through the Knights events. I have to say -- too many good things. Not only they start with a manufactury, but their provincetax is doubled.

Mameluke-related events should be initiated by Mamelukes, if they decide to declare war, that is. I am not convinced that capture of a ship, scared fleet should be events, things could've turned out differently. If we do that, we should also code Battle of Austerlitz and Trafalgar.

Construction of Naval Academy, Church etc are nice flavor events, however, no other country (except England and Ottomans IIRC) have those, which means the Knights get too much help.

Scaling down is a word of the day ;)

However, considering a looming release deadline, I don't know if we have enough time to sort the events thoroughly. Maybe, a small additions in thr future? Or I can rework them and include some in 1.1?

I agree the benefits may need to be scaled down. I don't mind. You are the one with all the headache to deal with, so I am not going to argue much.;)

Although, if you notice, both the naval manufactury and tax increases are removed by later events.

Precedent for ship capture events was set by paradox. Adds interest. Lets you know how the pirate/knights really lived a bit.

I also included events where Knights suffer from depredations of muslim fleets. (though the negatives are not outweighed by the positives, that is also a precedent set by paradox, after all, we don't normally have a random "theft from state" event to balance "gift to state" events. And if I recall, most of the ship capture/piracy events I wrote do not exceed what a random "gift to the state" would bestow. Scale them down to 25, I would still like them simply to break up eventless monotony.

I disagree about the naval academy/construction events being too much help. I think those benefits are trivial at that point in the game, for most players, and accurately reflect the reputation of their hospitals/fortifications.

What about Greebo/Koraths nice events? They pretty much enforce the historical demise of the Knights. Sounds like a good thing.:)

Annibale,

As it looks now, I probably will throw out the Mamelukes events. I think that using Paradox events as an excuse to add more is a bit unrealistic -- after all they're not Gods ;) We may rework those in the future.

I'll scale down most of the events.

E.g. : There are 2 events occuring in 1575 and 1576 which give 400 and 250 investment in infra. 650 in 2 years! Most nations great reforms get that much, and those nations are much-much bigger.

Are you sure about that? BTW, what was that you were saying about the size of reforms in 'great' nations?

Hey, that's not fair :D

Anyways, these events by no means finished, however, I based my numbers on a couple of games I played, and I was always behind Malacca (understandably, as they have a COT). There is no other way to boost Atjeh's chances of becoming a strong regional power they did historically, other than "cheat" a little in terms of giving them a boost here and there. The evnts are definitely historical and some of them were critical in the advent of Atjeh's power (like Ottomans sending military help).

Knights on the other hand are overdone - they have a bunch of kickass leaders, they have the max morale bonus, they have french and italian culture, so they will have no problemo unifying France and Italy etc. Ottomans rarely succeed in bringing them down, why boost their chances of survival even further?

Would not question the historicity, I would not be qualified, I have no knowledge of their history, nor have I played a game with them. Just trying to put some of these amounts/balance things into perspective (just had to brag, didn't you) :)

That is a good point, though I think paradox already reigned in the Knights leaders stats sufficiently, their morale bonus is perfectly justified, but perhaps we should give them a special "religious fanatic" culture (-2 to relations with anyone else, anyone at all!, and +2 revolt risk at all times):D

Lets face it, a player can go nuts with just about any country he chooses (with possible exception of Cherokee or something-and just as I say that, any minute, someone is going to crawl out of the woodwork claiming to have unified France with the Cherokee:D ).

Anyway, I don't see the AI Knights unifying Italy, the AI knights pretty much just historically sit there (with occasional forays into Ottoman terretory, usually temporary) (at least in my experience, even with these events).

Also, I believe you changed the eep so that Rhodes is a target province for the Ottomans? Has that helped any to simulate historical events? Hadn't noticed Rhodes falling yet, but thought someone else's experience may be different?

In any event, I still don't object to these events being toned down.

That's not the problem, the problem is landing. The Knights have a very potent manpool there :)rolleyes: ) so they build huge armies and do nothing, just beat the Ottomans away. When they get Malta,it becomes doubly improbable that the Turk will ever catch them, one landing I can see, 2 is beyond AI's capabilities.

Well, sounds like the historical outcome for the 1st seige of Rhodes and the seige of Malta, but not, unfortunately, for the second seige of Rhodes...

Anyway to tweak the AI so it just doesn't build the huge armies (far above the supportable amount and so on)? I know this has been complained about before with other minors, but don't know if there was ever a solution (that we could adopt).

Rhodes is one place where and AI Ottoman Empire no longer has problems (with EEP 1.05). I've seen the Knights move to Malta (or stay dead) just about every game lately. This is recent, so whatever was done to change the Knights is working. Before the AI never finished them (except an occasional AI Venice).

The extreme solution is to halve the attrition values for armies. This doesn't affect the player (who's smart enough not to send in 50,000 men into a support 6 province) but does keep AI armies from fading away completely.

I haven't tried this yet but someone else I spoke to said it made the AI considerably harder to beat, as you could no longer sit on your ass until the army whittled away from attrition.

I doubt this would be acceptable, though. So many players use the avoid-and-wait tactic that the outcry would be, I think, substantial.

These are nice, I am looking forward to it. However, most people recommend not using the atwar command (esp. with a one province minor and a relatively major power?)

Wealthy merchants confidently used her to ship their richest wares, confident that not even the notorious Knights could capture her. Commander de Gastineau, a wily captain from Limousin, waylaid the leviathan off Crete. Under pretence of parleying, he laid the Order's own great carrack alongside and then mowed down the captain and officers on the poop with one murderous salvo of grapeshot. The leaderless crew struck their colours and the Knights boarded to find a staggering consignment of silver and jewellery as well as bales of silk, cashmere and carpets, and quantities of pepper, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon. On the way home, the brethern captured three smaller cargo ships, and the entire treasure was eventually sold in France, its owners being held to ransom or sent to the slave market."

name = "Capture of the Morgarbina"
desc = "The Morgarbina was a gigantic vessel with seven decks which plied the seas between Tunis and Constantinople.

I see that this is here in order to enforce historical circumstances. That is a good thing, however, if the Order, as a human, conquers Malta, why on earth should they be deprived of their only core province, and not even given Malta, their new capital, as a core province?

Malta should be added as a core in option B.

In option C, if the Knights choose, apparently, to thumb their noses at the Ottomans, they should receive Malta, and KEEP Rhodes as core provinces.

Same here, Malta needs to be added as a core province.
