Naturally. There is no way that the Knights of St. John would ever be able to defeat the Mamalukes with a better (read: working) AI. I think we've all face huge AI armies that just stayed put during a war, instead of fighting.

But the Knights of St. John _do_ have a great starting position for a single province nation, and I have no doubt they would be able to take Cyrenaica, Tripolitania and then Tunisia, one after another, especially with the help of allies.

And after that, they might possibly be able to take on the Mamalukes.

Great Game,

I would also encourage you to play the game when the patch comes out. I do hope the AI is fixed, so the game could be a little more difficult (without cheating of course :D ).

[On August 16. 1518 we fought out first real battle. And suffered an ignominious defeat. 22.000 men were slaughtered by the infidels, and the numbers we killed on their side them could be counted in hundreds, rather than thousands. Our army fled back to Delta, followed by the infidels. They caught up with our army, and another 9.000 men lost their lives, before my predecessor figured out what had gone wrong.

During the long time of peace, the troop salaries had been cut in half, resulting in poor morale among the soldiers. The mistake was immediately adjusted, although the Grand Master would not take responsibility for the mistake. Perhaps I’m not too bold if I suggest that it was this stubborn refusal to admit his mistake that caused our Lord to call L’Isle Adam to Heaven a smidge earlier than he might have done otherwise.]

He he he.... I forget this sometimes myself. Must remember: Turn the salaries up at war! Turn the salaries up at war!...

GREAT AAR!!!!
Try Helvetia with the hardest settings on. I did it and it didn't workout well.... Annexed a few minor germans but then the spanish & the french (not together) kicked my a** right back to the burning city-screen :(

Cheers,
Valdi

Wow

Absolutely awesome AAR and something to aspire to... its always good to see the turks checked by a combined european attack as opposed to scattered alliances.

Regardless of the AI not being as 'clever' as it should, you still displayed very careful and planned attacks especially at crucial opening start where it could have gone terribly wrong for you.

Nice one!

Great!

Fantastic AAR! It's amazing that you did all of that with a country that starts out with a small, poor, one-province island! Amazing!

By the way, why is it that in the English version of EU The Knights of St. John are just referred to as 'The Knights'?

sisyphus - great AAR, I've always been itching to try the Knight St. John myself, but now that I've seen you exploit the poor Mameluks so gratuitously, I'll restrain myself...

The AI does seem to be something of a ninny. :) Ah well.

Maybe, after you've thouroughly explored the knights, you should play.... the Mameluks... with Turkey as a neighbour, they might be a true challenge...

I doubt that the Mameluks would be any more of a challenge... look at Corneius' Persian AAR... the AI isn't really capable of competing with a human player. Once Paradox finishes the port to the HAL9000, watch out, though! ;)

the Knights of St. John wasn’t really what I was looking for in the first place. (I’ll take a look at Baden next time. No leaders, no money.) But still I wanted to see what I single-province nation with a yearly income of 2 could do, how far can you get on pure wargaming with a pathetic nation? Well, pretty far, actually.
I think a lot of it comes from a stronger starting position (if any country with only one province and only 2d income could be called strong) on Rhodes, and the AI's hardcoded desire to attack along specific lines certainly helped.

I would suspect that playng a 'popular' nation such as Helvitia (popular as the doormat to everyone's invasion) would be near impossible...

Cheers!

I really can't wait to get my hands on the Game

There you go hjarg, let me tell you that this is my true feeling because I'm living in this South American country that doesn't get nothing (not even Amazon brings the game here)

But enough of this, it was a great AAR for that time. I do have a question, does de AI still that bad or did the patch worked better? I have seen in some new AARs that it is still predictible.

Thanks, for this remembrance.

Human mind can always outplay AI, so it's still as bad. AI is only effective against another AI nation.
