History took a weird turn when the Holy Roman Emperor went Heretic. In the First Crusade against the HRE, the Knights were granted Italy. In the Second, I won Germany, and decided to grant it to the Knights.

I guess in my game's history the Teutonic Knights are a branch of the Knights Hospitaller.
