Blimey, could there be another putche on your hands?

Hopefully, if there is a putche, it's supression will finally end what's left of the NSDAP and the SA.... but we'll see what we see, eh?

Chaos and Order

The Reichstag

On February 27, 1933, a warrant was issued for the arrest of Adolph Hitler, for over four hundred thousand Reichmarks in unpaid taxes from the sales of Mein Kampf. Twenty officers of the Preußische Geheimpolizei went to NSDAP headquarters in Berlin to carry out the warrant. The decision to bring such a large group would prove prudent, as Hitler immediately ordered the SA to kill the officers. After a brief struggle the the Preußische Geheimpolizei were forced to withdraw, carrying out two fatally wounded comrades. SA casualties could not be confirmed due to the circumstances, but were claimed at 5 by the Preußische Geheimpolizei.

Driven completely over the edge by the attempted arrest, and knowing that by killing officers of the law he had permenantly destroyed any hope of taking power through legitimate means, he made the decision to attempt another Putsch. Orders were issued for SA throughout Germany to seize the nearest location of significance, while the largest SA contingent with Hitler in Berlin would march on the Reichstag and seize power.

Hitler's attempted putsch was doomed from the start. The clash with the Preußische Geheimpolizei resulted in the loss of any hope of surprise, by far the most neccesary element in a successful coup. Further in the SA outside of Berlin was abysmal, and without Hitler to whip them up into a frenzy most simply ignored his orders to help in his seizure of power. Those few groups outside of Berlin that attempted to aid in the putsch accomplished little more than getting themselves arrested.

When Hitler's main force arrived at the Reichstag, they found that word of their attack had preceeded them. Facing Hitler's 500 SA men, mostly armed with clubs and pistols, was an entire regiment of the Reichswehr, in well chosen positions that gave them the advantage of terrain, and armed with rifles and machine guns. Unsurprisingly the battle was more along the lines of a massacre, with 350 SA men gunned down in the space of five minutes, while the Reichwehr only suffered 13 casualties, including two fatalitites. While Ernst Röhm was killed in the fighting, Hitler managed to escape in the chaos with a few picked men, prompting a massive manhunt throughout Berlin to find the him.

Shorlty after the attack Reichpräsident von Lettow-Vorbeck invoked Article 48 of the constitution and issue an emergency decree banning NSDAP and demanding that all registered members surrender to the authorities within 48 hours or they would be considered enemies of the state. An emergency session of the Reichstag met later that day, the first order of business being the expulsion of the few NSDAP members by a unanimous vote. After this was attended too von Lettow-Vorbeck gave the following speech:

"The NSDAP attempt to destroy our government has failed! The remaining traitors will be hunted down wherever they may hide, and they will be brought to justice. This has been a trying time for Germany, but we have passed the test, and Germany will stand united and free!"

(Applause interupts his speech)

"The NSDAP rebellion was our final challenge, the last desperate act of the forces of evil once all else had failed, and now we have at last done away with that evil! Never again shall German turn against German, we are single united and indivisible nation!"

(Applause interupts his speech)

"To ensure that we will always stand together, that we will always speak with a single voice and act with a single hand, Germany must change. Too long has Germany been an empire in name only, we must once more become an Empire in fact!"

(Some low conversation amongst the representatives, but von Lettow-Vorbeck quickly continues before it can gain momentum)

"We are an empire that will continue to be ruled by this distinguished body! An empire that will never return to the political maneuvering and corruption that have wounded us so deeply! We are an empire of laws, not of politicians and demagouges! An empire devoted to the preservation of a just, safe, and secure society! And most importantly, we are an empire that will directed by a restored Kaiser!"

(Most of the Reichstag bursts into wild applause, the SPD members gradually and reluctantly join in, while the KPD representatives remain stonily silent. When the applause finally dies down von Lettow-Vorbeck continues.)

"Our old Kaiser, Wilhelm the second, is willing to return, but when I last spoke with him he felt it would be better, in light of both his advanced age and his son's greater popularity, if Kronprinz Wilhelm were to take up the German throne instead. My fellow Germans, the dark days of the Republic have at last come to an end, and the light of morning shines on the reborn German Reich!"

Draco Rexus, Sir Humphrey, The Yogi, & cthulhu: There was indeed a NSDAP putsch, but I doubt it worked the way Hitler had hoped it would. In fact about all it really did was give von Lettow-Vorbeck the momentum he needed to pull off his own putsch and restore the monarchy.

aussieboy: Not exactly a democracy von Lettow-Vorbeck has in mind, but a lot better than what NSDAP was planning...

biffthewhite: Hope you enjoy it all then.

Sorry the wait for an update was a bit longer that it had been before, blame Johan for making Crusader Kings so much fun to play.

I second that!

Is, mayhap, Wilhelm III our Knight in Blue in Silver?

But I guess that's more blue and white...

Nah, in heraldry, white and silver are one and the same. (As are yellow and gold).

And GREAT POST, Chengar! Long live Kaiser Wilhelm III!

You took that speech from Revenge of the Sith!!!

Oh yeah, you forgot where the Reichstag goes "Safety! Security! Justice and Peace!"

This is an excellent AAR, long live Lettow-Vorbeck and long live the Kaiser...this is a very good one, now i wonder what the new 3rd Reihc lol, is going to do? rebuild its empire?

I first thought it was The Pour le Mérite. But then I remebered that it's in Blue and Gold.

Departure and Arrival

NSDAP Safe House near Berlin:

Adolph Hitler was in a truly impressive rage, even considering that his most common emothional state was some form of anger. The few specially picked SA men who were with him were all doing their best to avoid him lest he switch from loudly cursing von Lettow-Vorbeck to making one of them his target. After spending a few minutes angrily pacing the room and hurling out a constant stream of abuse towards von Lettow-Vorbeck, he suddenly turned to face one the SA men and shrieked, "Why isn't the ceremony ready yet?"

"I ... I do not know Herr Hitler, I ... er ... I'm just a guard, I don't do that kind of stuff..."

"Then what good are you? Get out of my sight you worm!" The SA guard hastily fled the building in compliance with his orders. Hitler then went back to pacing and cursing, until a few minutes later the door to the room opened and an SA officer informed Hitler, "We can beging as soon as you are ready Herr Hitler."

"What took you so long?" Hitler demanded.

"Well, Herr Hitler you must understand," The officer said, an almost pleading tone coming into his voice, "With a summoning like this the slightest error in the protective circle could result in..."

"I know about summoning circles! Do you think I'm stupid? I've been studying the occult for years!"

"But, if you've studied it then you must understand why..."

"SILENCE! I grow tired of your useless babble, but it is of no moment. Soon I will gain a powerful new servant who will finally allow me to destroy that fool von Lettow-Vorbeck and at begin my plans to bring about the rule of the Aryan race over all lesser beings."

"Of course Herr Hitler," The officer replied in his most soothing tone. "Are you ready to begin then?"

"Yes, I am."

"Well," Zenobia drew the word out while stretching to work out the kinks in her back from lying on the ground for too long, "what shall we do now?"

Edana gave a slight shrug in response, "I'm not too picky. Want to just head back home?"

"Sounds good to me." Zenobia gave her wings a few quick flaps to work out the stiffness that settled in, and then concentrated for a moment to open a portal to take them back. "Ready?"

"Yup," Edana answered, "Thanks for taking me out here, it's really nice."

"No problem, ladies first?" Zenobia gestured for Edana to go through the portal.

Edana fixed Zenobia with a look, a slightly amused smile playing at the corner of her mouth, "You know you're a woman too..."

"Well yeah, but ... well ... you're a more womany ... woman ... than me ... right?" Zenobia gave her wings a slight nervous flutter.

Edana rolled her eyes, but now was now grinning broadly. "Idiot." She managed to make what was usually an insult sound more like an endearment.

You could have given me a nicer pet name you know..." Zenobia muttered under he breath, though she was now grinning too.

"Nope, idiot works just fine." Edana stuck her tongue out at Zenobia, then quickly pulled it back when Zenobia tried to grab it. "None of that." she warned, narrowing her eyes in playful glare.

Zenobia chuckled and then offered, "How about we both just go through the portal at the same time?"

"Alright." Edana said amiably.

The couple stepped through the portal and began travelling through the dull grey surroundings of interdimensional travel. With a sudden jolt, the two came to a stop, and then Zenobia felt herself being pulled in a different direction, away from her home.

"Zeno?" Edana's voice was tinged with fear and worry, "What's going on?"

"Someone must have grabbed me with a summoning spell." Zenobia explained, her jaw clenched in concentration as she fought the spell. "You head on back, I'll find out who's summoning me and what they need, then catch up with you."

Edana took a moment to process the information, and then rushed forward and tightly wrapped her arms around Zenobia. "I'm coming with you," she declared, her voice hard with determination.

Zenobia considered trying to convince Edana to go back home, but long experience had told her that she was unlikely to be able to convince Edana not to join her on a mysterious and potentially dangerous adventure. "Alright then, we'll go together." With that Zenobia stopped resisting the summon spell and instead let it carry her to her new destination.

Four SA occultists were chanting the incantations along with Adolph Hitler, while the few guards nervously watched. While all the guards would normally state that the occult was nothing but a hoax, at the moment they could feel the buildup of dark energies which made the hairs on the backs of their necks rise, and left their palms so sweaty they could barely maintian a proper grip on their weapons.

After fifteen minutes of tireless encantments the chanting began to increase in tempo, ending with a loud cry of "Ahgmole morstavla kay, hyindare nostraba de! Iä! Iä!"

For a few moments there was only silence, as all waited expectantly for the results of the ritual. Just as Hitler was beginning to get impatient and was about to turn on the occultists and begin berrating them for messing up the ritual there was a sudden blinding flash of light and a loud cracking sound, followed by a shockwave that knocked down everyone in the room.

Hitler was the first to recover, quickly standing and blinking a few times in an attempt to get his eyes to recover from the stunning flash of light. Finally growing impatient with his eyes for not instantly recovering when he wanted them too, and turned to face the summoning circle and see what his efforts had gained him.

He was more than a little disappointed when instead of the hoped for powerful demon or similar such being, he instead saw two women. One stood at about average height, with brown hair going down to her shoulders, and had on a fairly standard blue dress. The other stood about as tall as most men, and wore her brown hair longer, and had on a red tunic and pants.

Hitler's anger was about to reach the point at which people would start dying when his eyes recovered enough for him to notice that the taller woman had one other feature he had missed, a pair of large feathery white wings. He had been expecting to gain the services of a powerful demon lord, but he quickly decided to see what he could do with an angel instead.

* * *

Upon her arrival Zenobia was less than impressed by the people who had somehow managed to summon her. It was clearly an amateur operation, since most of them were still recovering from Zenobia's entry, which any practiced summoner would have prepared for. The first to recover was the man she assumed to be, by virtue of his different clothing, the leader of the group. "So," she drew the word slightly as she fixed the unimpressive looking man in a shabby greatcoat with a look of bored indifference, "who are you and why have you summoned me?"

"I am Adolph Hitler, leader of the National Socialist and German Workers political party." Hitler did his best to sound calm, dignified, and polite. "I have brought you here to help me with a task of utmost impotance, a foul and evil man by the name of von Lettow-Vorbeck has seized control of my nation and has begun a reign of terror, I have already barely escaped an assassination attempt, and I fear that without help Germany is doomed."

"Right then," Zenobia said simply, doing her best not to give away the fact that she could feel the dishonesty of his statements clearly, not to mention the rather nasty odour that clearly indicated to her that he was the evil one, not this von Lettow-Vorbeck. "So what exactly do want me to do?"

While Hitler launched into a longwinded explanation of what he had planned for her, Zenobia used the noise to whisper to Edana, "Mess up the summoning circle while they're distracted, I can't do much while it's confining me."

"Um ... are you sure that's a good idea Zeno?" Edana's voice showed a hint of nervousness, though she did her best to hide it.

"Yeah, the guy who brought us here reeks of evil and he's lying like mad about the situaiton, this won't end well, and if I'd rather not be restricted when a fight breaks out. I can't mess up the circle, but I'm pretty sure you can since you're a human."

"Alright then." While Edana still sounded a bit nervous, the determination was back in her voice, and it was an easy thing to drag her feet along the floor, knocking the carefully prepared patterns out of position.

Meanwhile, Hitler continued his speach, finally ending with, "Now, with your help I can finally rise to my rightfull place as leader of the German people."

"Sorry, I don't work with liars who reek of evil." Zenobia responded coldly.

Hitler was shocked into silence for a moment, and then snarled, "Very well, if you will not comply with me willingly then you will be made to serve me, pain is excellent motivator. Heinrich!" He turned to the largest SA guard in the room and sharply gestured for him to deal with Zenobia.

The large and heavily muscled German casually walked up to Zenobia, then drew back his arm and launched a heavy punch. Zenobia casually intercepted the fist with her palm, then tightened her grip to hold it in place, producing a series of loud cracks as the bones of Heinrich's hands broke under her unnaturally powerful grip. With an almost lazy backhand slap she broke the large German's neck, killing him instantly.

"That was a mistake," She said in a calm and almost emotionless voice. As she turned to face Hitler, he suddenly noticed that her eyes, rather than a common blue or brown, were the color of freshly spilled blood.

With a single thought Zenobia brought her powerful blade and armor out of the special pocket dimension she stored them in and went to work on her enemies.

It had not taken long for the location of the supposedly secret NSDAP safe house to become known to the Preußische Geheimpolizei. Even as the above events were transpiring, several officers backed up by a company of the Reichswehr had carefully surrounded the house in order to insure that this time there would be no escape for Adolph Hitler.

Nobody was entirely sure what was going on in the house, a few minutes ago there had been what sounded like a loud explosion, accompanied by a flash of light. Several of the Reichswehr and Preußische Geheimpolizei begun to approach the house, the but the captain in charge of the operation ordered them back, as all potential escape routes had not yet been secured.

Just as the last unit reported itself in place, a loud male scream was heard from the house, followed by sounds of a struggle. The men were moving before the captain could give any orders, and shifted from a slow silent approach to a swift run as a man was thrown head first out the window.

* * *

As with an effortless flick of her hand Zenobia sent the last SA guard flying out through the window, Hitler desperately scrambled away from her, wanting nothing more than to get away from the deadly winged woman. When he found himself backed against a wall he desperately tried to deny the situation, "This can't be happening! I can't die yet, not before I gain my empire!"

Zenobia cut him down without a word. With a small gesture she sent the sword back to it's pocket dimension, then turned to Edana and said, "Now that we're done with them, shall we see about getting back home?"

"Um, yeah I guess we should." Edana looked slightly pale at the carnage Zenobia had wrought through the room.

Zenobia paused in concentration for a moment, then cursed under her breath. "Bad news, we've got a bit a problem about getting home..."

Edana was about to ask for a explanation when a group of heavily armed men burst through the door with cries of "Hände hoch!" Zenobia raised her hands in compliance, deciding she might as well see what these new arrivals wanted, she could always kill them later if they turned out to be as evil as the people who had summoned her in the first place.

As soon as the Reichswehr men realised that Hitler was dead, and instead of the expected SA thugs there were just two women in the room, they relaxed, only to be shocked upon noticing that one of the women happened to have a pair of feathery white wings, and was wearing a set of bloodstained armor that would have fascinated a medievalist.

The Reichswehr men, as soldiers are trained to do when faced with a situation in which have absolutely no training in dealing with, quickly summoned their captain. However, as the Reichswehr had foolishly neglected to train officers at any rank in the proper methods for dealing with a superhuman winged woman from another plane of existance, the captain decided to send the problem up the chain of command, as did every officer who was brought in on the matter until at last Zenobia and Edana reached a point at which the chain of command could go no higher.

Hope the switch from history book to narrarative went well enough for everyone, and that nobody minds me adding in the supernatural elements with Zenobia and Edana.

therev: Indeed, Germany will regain it's place in the sun!

cthulhu, Draco Rexus, Yogi, Kaiser Franz: Always glad to please the readers.

aussieboy, Atruejedi: I did take a lot of inspiration from the speech in Return of the Sith, it's just such a great speech for switching from a republic to an empire that I could hardly resist using it, though I did do try to avoid making it too obvious where I got the speech from.

Presumably the picture included will resolve the question of just who the Knight in blue and silver is, though the theories about Bavaria or the Kaiser were interesting. In honor of the Bavaria theory (and because it is in blue and silver and it looks nice) I have switched my avatar as all can see.

Ahh nice. I was thinking at 1st this would be another demony AAR. Nice touch to bring in the other side instead.
So i guess Zenobia is going to literally put the fear of god into Stalin and his stooges later? (Which might make your AAR demony after all when they look for "allies")

...I'm so confused and half disappointed. Everything was going... so... believably!

Don't get me wrong, your writing is superb... but... the fantasy element turns me off... :(

Oh well, I'll still keep reading.

Well, the angels really was unexpected, and since the unexpected happened I will read this one. Wonder what the commies are doing, they can't be that glad that there is a new Kaiser in germany, maybe a coup attempt?
