So I was the papal states and I declared the kingdom of god after I took over everything in Italy. I got extra prestige which wasn't worth much as the papacy I also got extra manpower which was more useful but it's a bit weird from there on I became pope and supposedly "ended the papacy".

The ending the papacy is the part where it gets confusing. The job of being head of the papacy was still rotating around. I was instantly given the position, but when my current pope died it went over to France and moved around from there. The only difference when in charge of the papacy seemed to be I lost papal action in diplomacy so I couldn't excommunicate my enemies but I still would get all the other extremely nice head of papacy bonuses. Is that what ending the papacy is supposed to be about? It's a bit confusing for me because it didn't seem worth even knowing I "ended the papacy". Did I miss something that was supposed to happen? When I instantly headed the papacy when I did it I thought it was going to be permanent but that would be a little OP as a reward for going from a 3 county no-power to all of Italy.

I was just trying to find out what the effect of this was today. It sounds broken? Previous to 1.8 it got rid of the college of cardinals and was a bit rubbish, but now if it genuinely makes you pope forever, that would be a fitting reward for your efforts. I'd report it as a bug.

Definitely sounds like it's not WAD. The decision was always underwhelming. Very few things in the game give free cores and you could do something with that (e.g. try to conquer as much of the needed provinces in one go, hit the button and get the free cores) but otherwise it's nothing great.

Forming the Kingdom of God should absolutely give you a monthly autonomy reduction, something theocracies otherwise can't get. The whole point is the Pope strengthening his control of his states, right?

No more head of the papacy at all would actually make it bad. You get a good amount of pope runs as the papal states which makes up for not getting to touch all the other papal influence point bonuses and you'd lose all those pope runs if it that went away that wouldn't be worth a few cores.

Definitely sounds like it's not WAD. The decision was always underwhelming. Very few things in the game give free cores and you could do something with that (e.g. try to conquer as much of the needed provinces in one go, hit the button and get the free cores) but otherwise it's nothing great.

The Papacy actually by default gets a bonus monthly autonomy reduction of 0.1.

It only gives the specific cores that are part of the requirements for it though so depending on how the lands devices up and how much you care about managing over extension might not be that much. I only got one core because the last county became a part of the holy roman empire post Renovatio Imperii so I had to holy war on the muslims and core more provinces to gain more power before I slammed HRE with my friend the commonwealth.

Maybe it's unintentional and got all weirded up in the papacy changes done in AoW you think? Maybe it's still supposed to stop anyone from being in charge of it. (which seems like a bad idea since you get it a lot)

It would be nice if the currant controller was in control for the rest of the game. Then you'd have to wait for the papacy while controlling the region to form it but you'd get all those bonuses.
