The Second War Between the States (1868-1869)

The first shots of this second war came not on land and not even between the KA and the CSA. The battle took place off the coast of California. Two Mexican frigates, which were both understrength and ill trained, attacked the KA Pacific fleet. The fleet was made up of three frigates and one commerce raider. The Mexicans surprised to find any KA ships in the Pacific fled to the south. The commerce raider cut off the only Mexican line of retreat and so they had to fight it out. For hours the KA frigates pounded the Mexicans ships and they slipped below the water on March 27 just before the daylight faded.

From April 3 through April 9 every KA division attacked from Texas to the Atlantic. As expected this overloaded the Confederates with an inexhaustable number of troops. They could defend anywhere and they started falling back.

Meanwhile in Europe there was an impasse as neither the Prussians or French were willing to attack the other as both their number were equal at roughly 40,000. France used this deadlock though to prepare several armies for transport to North America. Later in late May Denmark declared war on Prussia to get revenge for the humiliation of years earlier further hurting the war in europe.

There weren't many points of this war that really stand out but one is the battle of Richmond. The KA was presented with the same situation in Virginia as the USA did and McClellan hadn't budged forward. Now Grant plowed through men With Grant's army more then double the size of the Army of Northern Virigina there was no problem. It was also commanded by Lee who had failed first in 1861 and again in 1868. Why he was not replaced with a more able general we may never know. Still he did his best to put up a line to hold back Grant. His 32,000 men fought in desperation to hold the enemy at the gates. The lines failed and Grant took Richmond after no more then a week of battle.

To the west Seidita also commanded his front with skill encircling 10,000 Confederate soldiers in Oklahoma. The advance continued on all fronts while another 30,000 men we deployed to Los Angelas in mid June1868. These troops were originally planned to be used against Mexico with a landing close to the capital. Unfortunatly the ships were stuck in port until safety of the seas could be assured.

The last four or five months showed the true brutality of Grant and those serving under him. On September 17 he burned the Shenandoah region of Virginia. His men continued their advance down to Atlanta arriving on the first day of December. He defeated the 10,000 confederate troops and bruned the city to theground 14 days after taking it. Grant's comment on this in his memoirs were simply "I was cold…"

The last great battle of the civil war took place in Pensacola, Florida. Generals Sherman and Longstreet both on their respective sides. Longstreet's job was simple defend the port while the last of the Confederate leadership fled to Central and South America. The only problem Longstreet had was his men were outnumbered three-to-one. The KA with 60,000 and the CSA 20,000.

Sherman's waves off men crashed into the fortifications that Longstreet had set up like the waves of the beaches. One army was led by Prince Frederick Dent Grant heir to the throne. (His father had gotten Sherman to teach him in the conduc of battle ) FDG was no General like his father. He wasn't a terrible general but nothing that could take that position. He was hit with a bullet and immediently fell from his horse dead. It struck him directly in the heart.

The battle was won by Sherman after weeks of battle in late January 1869. The battle though told of things to come. Those same tactics used by Grant would be seen again in Abu Dhabi, Iceland, Greenland, Switzerland, Israel, and many other battles but not for another ten years at the earliest.

With the battle over the Confederate States defeated at Penascola the failure could no longer be denied. Longstreet as supreme commander of all Confederate forces surrenders to the KA. The KA was instantly recognized as the most powerful country worldwide. No nation not even the UK could claim to wipe the number 10 world power from the face of the earth (or even the Indian confederact whom they made peace with in April 1869) .

The KA now had well over 46,000,000 people in its borders. But still Mexico needed to be delt with. On March 5, Sherman achieved his beach head in Vera Cruz and drove westwards. In roughly two month he took Mexico City. Mexico immediently submitted and proclaimed their alliegence to the Kingdom of America as their vassal state.

On the day after (March 9, 1869) Grant lay dieing in his bed of throat cancer. Finally feeling the pain many of his own citizens were going through he agreed to give out free health care. Even at low quality it was something. Grant's situation worsened throughout the day. The Pope finally arrived at 7:30 that evening. Immediently after finishing his prayer Grant died. Upon finding the King was no longer breathing they all turned to Ulysses S. Grant Jr. King of America and yelled "The King is dead, Long live the King!".

The reign of US Grant Jr. had begun at only age 17, a reign that would take the Kingdom of America to the far corners of the globe and into wars that would, in total, cost over a million lives.

Yes, amazing! Awesome update?
 But I could of sworn Grant was president later.... oh well!
Hail USGrant Jr!

Ahh yes Longstreet... he is the one who caculated that for an attacking force to be successfull you needed to outnumber your enemy at least 3 to 1. Read The Killer Angles, it goes into this in the Longstreet secions.

The Kingdom of America's First Taste as a World Power (1869-1870)

The KA's true golden age began with Grant Jr. it was his business sense and strong leadership (even though he was almost never seen in public) that propelled the KA to having power it had never dreamed of. Almost immediently after Grant Sr.'s death the treasury exploded into a huge profit daily. With this money Grant Jr. could begin his spare no expense building campaign.

His first use of this money was to buy Indian Lakes from the reluctant British for 16,000,000 dollars. It was his hope that this would spur pro-KA and UK relations, at least until Grant was ready to dispose of them.

Soon after the end of the war Sheridan was crowned what came to be known as "Duke of Dixie". This title gave him control over all the lands that had once been the CSA. Almost three months afterwards General Custer was titled "Duke of Mexico". There was only one problem, Mexico had recently been consumed by civil war and about 1/3 of the country was under rebel control. There were about 5 to 1 advantage in number over the Mexican army so they steadily lost ground.

Custer was first transported to Texas where he put down some large scale revolts that were overwhelming the local KA guards and then headed across the Rio Grande into Mexico. As soon as he headed deeper into Mexico he met 10,000 friendly Mexicans and 48,000 unfriendly ones. Several days later the Mexican rebels routed and fled in every direction to avoid the US troops.

By September 27, 1870 (a month that is credit with the KA surpassing 50 million people) Custer and his 40,000 men had reached El Orite and gave battle to only a part of the men from the first battle. The 20,000 Mexican rebels were soundly defeated and fled. Still even with victories in Mexico one governor in Arizona had the boldness to insult Custer and what he was even doing in Mexico. He was immediently hanged.

The rest of the year passed without major battles in Mexico. The only other notable thing of that yeaer is the death of Duke of New England Farragut on November 13. His son named Porter rose to the throne.

The new year started with a bang when on January 21, 1871 a fire started in Chicago. This fire has many possible causes the two that most people know is that a cow in a barn kicked over a lantern and the other is that it was an act of patriotism by the American Liberation Force. Whether or not they started the fire we shall never know. The ALF was in danger of falling again into a power struggle or evenfalling apart all together so they needed to not only prove to themselves but also the world they were still a power. The fire was eventually put out but not before several important factories were destroyed. Grant Jr. announced through his dueks that the factories would be rebuilt and be running again with a year.

July 17 brought the signing of the Quebec agreement. This agreement gave the Ka key land in Canada in exchange the KA would send many economists, scientists, and construction workers to London and teach them of the vast wealth of KA knowledge. With every agreement the KA made more certain that the Canadians would never see the British flag again (although many tried).

The KA had gotten its first taste as not only a global power but the number one world power. But it doesn't matter if you have a powerful industrial base or are a prestigious nation if you don't have the army to back it up. That's what the next age would be all about. Grant Sr. had fought in many large and important wars but Grant Jr. would send more men to die in more wars then the first Grant could have dreamed.

The Beginning of the Great American Colonial Era (1871-1872)

On New Years Day 1871 the fleet set sail for Colombia specifically Panama. A number of economists had convinced Grant that if they could build a canal through Panama then it would be financially outstanding for the KA. The only problem was not one among them was a surveyor or had even visited Panama. They land was terrible to dig through and Malaria would spread like wildfire. Even worse most work would need to be done by hand as much of the technology used years later wasn't yet invented.

Nonetheless the fleet set sail and arrived one month later on Febuary 1. The KA declared war the second the first troops were scheduled to hit the beaches. As KA troops advanced they found something very interesting in Panama. A white man who led the Colombian police against the invaders. Under interregation he admitted to be Jefferson Davis former President of the former CSA.

The news didn't stay quite long and before anyone knew it it was on the title of every newspaper and in the speeches of every revolt leader. Grant was given a very unique position. One that was quite like his fathers. His father had proved that killing Lincoln didn't extinguish the revolution but rather made him a martyr. So Grant Jr. decided to pardon him and allow him to live peacfully (even if under survellience) in the former CSA.

The operation in Panama went well as the only resistence was 10,000 Colombians who fought for only a day before retreating to Bogota. The KA continued its advance through the swamps and jungle until it had conquered the entire Isthmus by June 17 and made peace with Colombia soon afterwards. The gained all Panama as well as a buffer zone that would give the Americans a long warning before any Colombian counterattack.

Before the ink was dry on the document the Americans were already building railroads and making their first attempt to dig their way through Panama. The attempt lasted until mid-July around the same time the Indian Confederacy's collapse began. Without victory the Indians returned to their fruitless bickering and wars.

Seidita and later Sherman arrived in the lower Niger by late August this was obviously a colonial war. This war would be used to add the most advanced and until this point most stable government native to Africa, Sokoto. For years they had skillfully and diplomatically stepped out of harms way using every trick from groveling on their knees to threatening with their army numbering about 100,000 men.

These plans to invade would be delayed by a number of events. First of these was Custer emerging from Mexico. His army was not only tired and filthy but also had taken 91% casulaties going from 40,000 strong to 36,300. Their stay would last for 50 days until October 20th when the numbers swelled from 3700 back to 40,000 and they would retrun to Mexico to stop the endless rebellions.

The KA armies after many delays were ready to invade next spring after the holiday season had ended for the troops. Unfortunatly a message arrived from NY, this message would more then delay the war it be a war that would lay the foundation for American contempt for any of its European neighbors. This is what the message said.

King Ulysses Simpson Grant Junior
New York City

Generals Sherman and Seidita,
On December 25, 1872 we received word from out allies Greece and Russia that they had declared war on the Ottoman Empire, France and Spain. The asked we honor out alliance and declare war on these new enemies.

So it seems God has yet again intervened on the side of Sokoto. At least for the time being we must focus only on this European war. It has also come to my attention we have armies in the continental KA over 40,000 men. We also can not retrieve you from the lower Niger as the French navy outnumbers our own and combined with the Spanish it is a force that might even rival Great Britian.

We must then for the time being allow you to remain in Africa while Custer and his men lead the army to glory while our navy fights to maintain control of the seas. We will gain absolute victory gentlemen. God will see us through.

God Bless the KA,
King Grant

This war would prove that while the KA was a power it still had many things to learn such as the finding of strong and competant allies.

The Franco-American War (1872-1874)

When the Russians declared war they only had the intention to fight the Ottomans from the east while Greece would invade from the west. That leaved the Kingdom of America to fight the combined forces of Spain and France. Especially their gigantic.

The American high command decided to adopt a plan from General Custer. Basically it was offense against the Spanish and defense against the French. Custer would land in Cuba, Puerto Rico, and perhaps even the Yucatan Penninsula. It was adopted and the American fleet set sail to deep waters and lay in wait for the French navy.

Custer and his transports landed unopposed at Santiago de Cuba in Mid March. There was no resistence to be found and Havana fell on June 23 to the American Army. The army immediently loaded up and set sail for Puerto Rico where they landed in August 12 to find it empty of Spanish soldiers.

While all this took place the Ottomans fought the powerful Russian army. Several years earlier a coup left a group of communists in charge and the army and nation in turmoil. The Ottomans continually lost land in the east to Russia and the Balkans were falling to Greece.

Back at sea on September 4, ten French ships attacked the American ships at the Plato Seamount. The ships one by one were sunk. The only ships there though were all old Man-o-Wars. The point though was not to defeat the KA ships, because by September 18, 1873 21,000 Frenchmen landed in Long Island and pushed towards Manhattan unopposed. The next day the entire KA fleet swung around and sped to the coast of New York to block any help from the French.

The KA then chose that moment to finally deploy their 120,000 man reserves. They were deployed to defend the east coast from and future Spanish or French invasion. Also deployed were 20,000 men who would assault New York and rescue it . Grant said he led the men in that attack in Novemeber 30 but that is foolish. Most people know that he had fled to Rochester, NY and was ready to flee to Toronto.

While Grant fled both sea and land were torn apart by war. At sea Porter fought to keep the Spanish navy from advancing towards New York with a possible 50,000 reinforcements. At land the American soldiers 20,000 attacked the entrenched 21,000 French. Since the French were entrenched and roughly equal number most would guess the French won. What most people didn't know is each one of those men were from New York. They knew the terrain of their city and the surrounding land better then any General American or French. Also one thing the French failed to consider was that the American patriotism exceeded their hate of Grant. That combined with the fact most of the Americans still had guns from the previous government the French couldn't hold on for long.

The French surrendered on December 15 and were stunned by their defeat. Grant called out that every citizen with a gun who had fought against France in the war come forward so they could be rewarded. Some 2,500 came forward and Grant had them put to death for obeying the second amendment of the USA. Still it wasn't even a tenth of the Americans withguns in NY.

With the Spanish navy soundly defeated they had no real option other then agree to American demands and they ended up surrendering Cuba and Puerto Rico before the end of December. The rest of December saw several naval battles most favoring the KA before Russia signed peace with France and the Ottomans. The world returned to a status quo but would neverbe quite the same.

The French were engraged and began to go on a massive building campaign. They planned on expanding their army and navy to a point where they would someday could defeat not only the KA but put all of Europe under their boot and they would come very close.

The Ottomans were shaken even worse. The communist government was abolished and the sultan came out of exile to reclaim the throne in Istanbul. They began rebuilding a navy larger then the combined fleets of Greece, Russia, and Austria their most likely enemies. They also began rebuilding a large army to fight those same three nations.

The Greeks were exhausted by war and they were closer to bankruptcy then any nation. They could hardly fill their army ranks and had gained absolutly nothing from the war against the Ottomans.

Russia was victorious and recognized as the most powerful nation of eastern nation. The Russians though had lost more men then any nation in the war and there army was reduced to only 150,000 to 200,000 men. They were still powerful but under developed Russians had no fast transport or modern weapons. The Russian people soon after sunk into a deep defeatist nation even if the czar tried to combat this.

The Kingdom of America was now a proud nation with the proof it had military power. It had secured it front to the south and proved its navy was sufficient to defeat the number two military power. Despite this feeling constant revolts continued especially in Dixie and Mexico. Custer officially abdicated his throne of Mexico and allowed the area to slip into anarchy even if the area was still formally under KA control. Also many of the lessons of the war weren't lost on Grant. Immediently he recruited the Royal New York guard to garrison the capital. Also fortifications were erected to block anyenemy fleet from coming in close to shore. Finally it was revealed that the four ships that were sunk were all elderly sailing frigates. Grant began the gradual decommisioning of these ships to be completed before 1875.

Spain immediently following the war abandoned its alliance with France and began to improve relations with the KA. They realised the KA was on its way up and they wanted to go along for the ride. This proved to be the best thing Spain could have done as it led to their nations increased territory in Spain, their increased prestige, and the climbing to the number one industrial power in the world.

Whether for good or ill this war set the scene for alliances, relations, and wars both small and large for decades to come.
