I never noticed this until now. The IJN in 1939 started out with a pretty solid navy with a lot of good ships researched. No wonder they were the third largest force at the start of WW2. Shame that all their ships were sunk to the ocean...
So this is what non-DLC tech tree looks like, never seen it before cuz I had all-DLCs from day 1![]()
Yeah, but they do go on sale quite often so it kind of cancels out. At least I got 75% off on everything except MtG and LaR. You just have to follow PDX 2 years behind their schedule, you can get better polished games at lower price that way.I had all DLC's from day 1 and I started playing more than a year before MtG was released. I just wish Paradox would include more features in the base game instead of a $20 DLC.
Too bad they didn't research radar. No so high tech afterall.
I believe they have a base radar researched. Which is good enough.

They did not have radar on any of their fleet. If they had, things might have been quite different with their CV advantage. It also helped that the US broke their code for Midway and knew their plans and location, and had radar on their ships.
@EliteWehrmacht
Major,
Instead of wasting valuable ships, especially CV and slow BBs on Patrol and burning tons of fuel, I like to build scouting frigates - which are DDs with engine, max sonar and radar, leave the battery on it and add AA. It can be built fast, is fast and can outrun most everything it encounters except planes (don't patrol along coast or in shallows), put 5 of those with a mine sweeping frigate (dd with engine and mine sweeping gear, and a AA DD and set it up to "never engage:" and send it out to patrol with your big boys set for "strike force".
When not doing a naval invasion look for natural chokepoint zones that the US and AUS will need to come through and patrol those heavily, with your strike force in a nearby port waiting.
That's right I forgot you don't have DLC. Good move on the Oil. I ended up going for Yemen and Kuwait as Japan. Well there is 3 little british colonies up there, and 2 of them have oil, but I took all 3.Very smart move. I don't have the fanciful ship upgrades from MTG, but I agree with having the strike force + DD patrol combination. I had to import almost all my fuel from neutral oil-exporting countries. USSR did not export any because it was under invasion from the west. Luckily I conquered the oil regions of DEI before USA joined (Bypass Phillipines focus) so I had some oil produced.

Yes, I was thinking about Iraq pretty hard, but ended up passing on it and taking South Africa and then moving to South America and eventually Panama and the canal, which sealed the allies doom.Saudi Arabia, Iran and Iraq are also very good sources too. Iran has like only 12 divisions defending. I used the forces from India to attack there.
I also think having way more heavy and escort carriers, more cruisers and more aircrafts helped the usa. They kept pumping new shiny ships out during the entire war duration; the naval industrial production and quality the USA achieved is simply stunning.I was replying to this:

You can obtain the twin ships through a focusWish they hadn't removed the Super Yamato class from the game. Super Super Battleship basically.
You can obtain the twin ships through a focus
Go for the battleship supremacy branch
I took Siam first, for rubber. Then Iran for oil. And in the end of 38 China gives me reason to attack, after event Chinese provocation. So there's no Marco Polo Bridge debuf. It allows me to conquer and divide China without being in war with Allies.Very smart move.
