Now that I've got your attention, here's the deal:

We (the IGC team) need to know the names of the following nations in the various languages of the (existing and future) EU versions. (We already have the English, Swedish and German names.)

Uzbeks
Ryazan
Granada
Ayutthaya
Ethiopia
Greece
Novgorod
Dai Viet
Pommerania
Transylvania
Serbia
Ragusa

So, please let us know the Polish, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese (or any other language you might speak) names of these nations. (Ryazan, Dai Viet etc are probably the same in all languages, but you never know... :))

Is the idea to have each province written in the language of the province itself? If so I like the idea, for example, though an english speaker I prefer to have my wargame maps say 'Moskva' rather than 'Moscow'; Firenze rather than Florence, etc.

I still recall the original AH ads for Anzio. 'As Italian as Gina Lolabrigida; so Italian that the names are even in Italian.

Of course for this era is it going to be Koeln or Cologne?

Spanish translation

Spanish translation goes like that:

Uzbeks = Uzbekistán
Ryazan = Riazán
Granada = idem
Ayutthaya = Ayutia or Krung Kao
Ethiopia = Etiopía or Abisinia
Greece = Grecia
Novgorod = idem
Dai Viet = ? idem
Pommerania = Pomerania
Transylvania = Transilvania
Serbia = idem
Ragusa = idem

Hafsid Empire = Imperio Háfsida
Prot. France = Hugonotes (protestant french were known like this, as in the original game files). If not, 'Francia Protestante'

If you're not asking for any other names, I suppose you already have the translations (Sibir= Siberia, Bavaria= Baviera, Tuscany= Toscana, etc)

Abbasid is not Hafsid

A quick note: I've seen Abbaside for Hafsid Empire in one of the posts. These are different things
The Abbasids disappeared long before the 15th century. The Hafsids were a different dinasty/people, or so I've though always.

just to correct some minor mistakes in Russian.
ethiopians is ephiopi
the word for Novgorod people is Novgorotsi
and there are no such words as grenadtsi, transylvantsi or pomerantsi..
Nevertheless, wouldn't you need the cyrillic version anyway?

You are correct on the account of how to spell ephiopians in russian. However there are words as grenadtsi, transylvantsi or pomerantsi, or should I say there were since all of the above mentioned areas were at one point independant countries. As a matter of fact I have a couple of russian history books that mention those countries and their independance and use the words you have corrected me on. Thank you for your input though.

'Transilvantsi' is ok, but 'pomerantsi' sounds a bit awkward to my year - a bit like a plant or a fruit. As far as 'Granadtsi', there is an adjective in Russian, the inhabitants of independent Granada - not a modern province - will most likely be referred as Arabs, Moors or Spanish Arabs. If you could point me to any book that has 'pomerantsi' or 'granadtsi', I would be really grateful.
