So, since we have the ability to eat pops in the update, I was thinking it would be awesome if there was some kind of ravenous hunger ai type. The premise is that they burn through the galaxy, like a fanatical purifier, but they eat the pops of any Alien species. probly wouldnt be that different mechanically from the fanatical purifier ai but it would be interesting.

In which way would they be different from the fanatical purifiers? They would apply a form of purging, a normal fanatical purifier can already apply. So what new would it add?

It's the difference between fighting the Zerg, and fighting the nazis. They both genocide you if they win, but it feels like a different fight. They also stem from different ethics. The hunger would probably be fanatic collectivists, where purifiers are usually xenophobe spiritualists

Yeah, a "fanatical purifiers" civic for hiveminds would be an interesting implementation of this.

It seems kindve boring for all hive minds to be the same. I can definitely see a hive mind coming out as the zerg, or coming out as a peaceful builder race who believes in harmony

I suppose it depends on the type of eating. A fanatic purifier can easliy be a 'zombie horde' in that you'll eat everything and not care about the long term before seeking new flesh to devour etc so long as you choose that specific type of purging.

Where as someone that goes for long term sustainability but collects as much as possible of the 'unique ingredients' out there in the galaxy, kind of feels like a gourmet despot

But yeah I think it'd be interesting if they named Fanatic purifiers that consumed xenos differently.

Unlike the fanatical purifiers, these guys are quite diplomatic and even ensure that their cattle are raised in utopian conditions.

Collectivists will be limited to Displacement only Purges. And caste System Slavery, wich is not suiteable for lifestocking.
According to our current information, only Xenophobes are able to eat people - both Lifestock and processing. The others consider them "to smart" to just eat them.

Only real difference is how they would react to you doing the same. There is already precedent for that:
Slavers do not care if you enslave.*
Purgers not if you Purge.*
Dominators not if you conquer Pre-FTL's.

*With overrides for "their" species, of course.

Unlike the fanatical purifiers, these guys are quite diplomatic and even ensure that their cattle are raised in utopian conditions.

How about this one? I think we could do it with advanced Genetic Engineering:
