The latin man looks at the irritating Irishman, then calmly takes out a cigarette. He lights it, taking a long drag, all the while looking at this pompous ass, then finally exhales, blowing the smoke into his face.

"Senor...I thank you for your concern. But it is unneccessary." He slides the cigarettes back into the inner pocket of his leather jacket, a motion which just barely reveals a strap of some variety...his shoulder holster. The glint of cold steel can be seen as well. He closes his jacket and takes another drag, then pulls a card from his wallet, flashing it to the Irishman.

"Do you know what this is? Of course not, you are stupid. Allow me to explain. This is a concealed carry permit for my gun." He slides the card back into his wallet. "Now then...I suggest you either go around me to do your fighting, or, as you say...'piss off'." With that, he turns away from McIntosh and towards Marine. "A job? Music to my ears, senor, I am always interested in a job. Let us take that booth over there, and you may tell me what you had in mind?" As they walk to the indicated table, Vasquez pulls out a notepad from his jacket.

Mr. Marine...what do you know about the ice cream bombings?

Help you in what matter?

Revive the ESRP? The Eutopian Socialist Reform Party? Eutopia's one and only socialist party for seven terms? Good question. Probably not. At least not for now. If the only people I can recruit are these drunken louts, I'd rather pass.

Bob gets up from the table and walks up to the Irishman.

"A word of advice comrade. Getting killed in a bar fight won't advance your party agenda one bit."

He overhears Josephus.

"Hm, socialist reform party? And I, good sir, am not drunk. As for Mr. Mcintosh, well..."

Lucien Napier enters the Horse and Trombone, carrying a briefcase and a laptop. He takes his usual booth near the back of the pub (away from the rowdies up front), takes out a legal pad, and begins to write, hand sweeping across the page, pausing only to respond to the waitress:

"Ploughman's lunch, please, stilton cheese. Pint of stout, room temp, mind you. Thanks."

He glances briefly about. Let us see; Josephus Locke Sergei, the socialist. Vasquez, the investigator. And law student? Have to check that. Black, the . . . singer. Marine. Thought he'd be in the Latin country. Amric Al'Aeshir! Slumming a bit, isn't he.

He returned to his work.

Where should I start senor Vasquez, I do not know much that could help you.

I want you to find out who was behind these icecream bombings, thanks to which mr. Tulp have prothethic arm and we have nearly died.

All I know is that this bomber was most likely going after socialists and that he used disguise of Icecream man. That is all I know and it isn't much.

Many people have died because of that bombing, and I was lucky to survive, I suspect that this investigation will be risky, BUT I will pay all your expenditures and...shall we say 30 000 ducks when you'll be finished?

I do not like to haggle so let's say I'll rise it to 40 000.

Deal?

To Amric Al'Aeshir:

"Yessir," says Black, offering Amric a chair, "That's mighty kind of you to say. I thought I'd stray over here and check out this new establishment."

He looks over at the crowd.

"Looks like there could be a ruckus. Amateurs. Fightin' in and of itself's not a bad thing I suppose, but fightin' for no reason?"

He just shook his head and took his shot of whiskey.

"You've kept rather busy, Per Al'Aeshir. Your generosity helped a lot of folk get their lives back in order after the hurricane. I know I speak for plenty of 'em when I offer you my thanks."

He raised his beer in salute, though in the back of his mind deciding that this particular brand didn't suit him, and perhaps he should stick to brown liquor.

"Aha!" Bob yelled. Then he noticed the patrons of the bar staring at him so he decided to explain.

"Comrades, I am sorry for the noise. I was just happy the Football League seems to be starting soon."

Seeing the patrons did not seem to think this was a good explanation, Bob quietly returned to his table.

The moment Marine mentioned the ice cream bombings, Vasquez folded his notebook closed and tucked it back into his jacket pocket. "I'd love to take your case, Senor Marine...but for one fact. It has already been solved. Here..." The PI reaches into another pocket and pulls out a newspaper clipping.

ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON FORMER PRESIDENT O'FLOINN FOILED

An otherwise beautiful sunny afternoon at the Eutopia Racetrack was rocked by violence that left two people dead. The Racetrack, as one of the few public attractions with power, had drawn many luminaries, including its owner, former president John O'Floinn.

As the gates opened for the start of the second race, the bells went off and two shots rang out from a utility shed, one of which struck and killed Calvin Harding, son of former MILE and O'Floinn ally Yuber Harding.

A man dressed as an ice-cream vendor and described as "badly burned" fled from the shed as track security gave pursuit. The assassin eluded security forces, but his body was found in a getaway car, with the engine running. Police cornoners confirm that he had been garroted to death. Witnesses on the scene at the discovery claim that a crude note pinned to his chest read "The Phalanx Wlak will destroy all threats to the President. You have been warned."

A search of the van and international finger print records identify the slain gunman as R.Toolley O'Moore, a Bermudan arms dealer with ties to organized crime and terrorism. Police suspect O'Moore as the the perpetrator of the Cooperative Square Massacre, as the murderer of former President Vasco IKK, and several other unsolved bombings in recent months.

"Its from the 59th edition of NewsLink. Easy to miss in all the chaos, I understand. So I'm afraid the...Phalanx Wlak already found and took care of your man. A shame, almost, since you were going to pay so well. Unless, of course, you were going to hire me to try and find his organized crime or terrorist contacts? Now that...that would be very dangerous. Possibly suicidal. They'll have their people covered coming and going, and all the storms probably destroyed most of the evidence."

Napier looked up from his lunch to watch the sports scores on a muted television. With a smile, he called over the waitress.

"Ma'am, please buy everyone in the place one on me. My team just won it's first game. A good way to start the season."

Looks at the beer in Black's hand. Motions to the waitress.

Pardon me, but could you get this gentleman something else to drink? Perhaps some Jack Daniels. Or would you prefer some rum, sir?

Looks to Black for some confirmation.

Thank you sir for your kind words. I have spent some time in the southern provinces of what is now Tilapia and I feel for the people there. I spent some time there during the Hurteau Fever crisis and during two election campaigns. When I heard how hard hit they were I just HAD to do something to help.

Takes a sip of his own 151.

Well let us hope there isn't going to be a fight. Boxing is one thing, fighting for a cause, another. But fighting for no reason is just plain foolish. I have the feeling that you definitely agree with me.

So how is your wife and children?

Anyway I just heard Rijoa Regents lost to Spikes, sad thing to hear, but at least they lost with honor.
