The hell is this - France declares war on me when I go to war for them?

The only thing preventing me from completely raging is I had a relatively recent save. So someone care telling me, what the hell man?

France is probably the liege of Amiens and a liege always declares war on you if you attack his vassals.

That Amiens is still a vassal of and war with France is a bug.

You sure there isn't an intermediate step "Amiens' ally who is still a vassal of France declares war on you" in there? That's usually how it happens for me

Yes, it could be that Amiens declared on France (that happens sometimes, a count gets a claim on the royal title), then you declared on Amiens, who called his liege, who called the king to war on you.

Well it happened again. Yes, it looks like Amiens remained a vassal of France when they declared war. I just ignored the call this time. Thanks for the help!

Just look before you leap and remember that there is no kind of penalty for declining a call to arms.

I'm not so sure it is a bug. There was a huge war involving England, France and their satellite countries; I was asked to come in to honour my alliance with Britain. I was playing Ireland and had another 10+ provinces in Northern Spain and the Middle East area. I had a bad reputation from attacking the Arabs, was busy fighting at the time, and really didn't get involved in the big war. England and France probably saw me as a bigger threat (and perhaps an easy target to get more land from, if they worked together) so they quickly made peace but in the process every single country and satellite, that was involved in that conflict, went to war with me. I was mad but it was the best battle I ever had, and I actually held my own (just barely) and made a lot of money for improvements.

Either Paradox has some insane artificial Intelligence programming skills or it's a bug.
