I've been reading arond tag switching etc and would just like to ask if anyone knows ANY way to get rid of the greyskin after unifying the HRE. I'm playing as a commonwealth emperor and want to know if there is a way to keep my colour/get a differnt colour, Id ratehr not manually integrate my vassals but I am willing to do so lol

In Ironman there isn't.
I feel your pain, especially since I'd actually want to be able to form countries as the HRE. I've played Moldavia and I became the HR Emperor. I wanted to form a huge Romania but I couldn't because... Romania can't be formed by the HRE

I think all formable nations are blocked when you are the HRE

if you form a nation, you should have an option of changing your map color to one of the contributing nations', in the HRE's case, that'd be any nonexistant nation's cores.

But why is changing the country color not permitted in Ironman ? It's not a game breaker by far.

this problem is just another reason why they need to dissuade the "country > Emperor > HRE" strategy as the be all end all move;

By editing gamefiles (which changes the checksum, which disables ironman).
