photoshop, maybe?

I can hardly see Stalin giving away any territory, especially to a seemingly Monarchical Empire, and giving away the Baku oilfields

Ohhh, my bad. :D

The Great European War: 1940-1941

The Eastern Front

Surprisingly, the Axis beat the odds and made progress in 1940 against the Soviet Union. The Wehrmacht pushed back Soviet troops while Romania and Hungary made much progress in the Ukraine. The war really started to heat up in 1940. Two major Soviet defeats rocked the Eastern Front in 1940. Russia had lost both Kiev and Minsk in deadly battles that left much of Byelorussia and Ukraine ruined. A large battle between tanks took place at Vilnius in Lithuania which was the only German defeat in the East during 1941. The Battle of Vilnius decimated the panzers of Germany and would affect the war in 1942.

The African Front

The Siege of Alexandria was the bloody turning point for the Allies in Africa. Masses of Italian troops gathered outside the ancient Egyptian city and blockaded it. All the while, bombs pummeled the city. When Greece entered the war, they sent a huge fleet of their massive navy to lift the blockade. When the Italian ships were sunk, supplies could enter Alexandria once more. Soon the British fought back and won the bloody siege. And by the end of 1941, the Italians were pushed out of Italy.

Greek Operations

Greece played a huge role in the Great European War. The first thing the Greeks did when they entered was to send their powerful navy against Italy. The Regia Marina was outnumbered by the Greek Navy, but the Italians had more battleships and larger boats. But the maneuverable and fast Greek destroyers decimated the Italian navy all throughout the Mediterranean in 1940 and 1941. This lack of naval power made it very hard for Mussolini to supply his tired troops in Africa. By the end of 1941, the Regia Marina was finished and Greece dominated Mediterreanean waves.
Greece dominated the land slightly less. The first battles of the land war were in Romania. Greece used the German tactic of blitzkrieg with their limited tanks to capture Bucharest and the vital oil field of Ploesti. However, as Romanian troops retreated they set the oil fields on fire and ruined half of the fields. When Bucharest was captured, the Romanian government retreated to Cluj-Napoca, an isolated Carpathian city. Croatia, the puppet of Greece, captured Venice and much of northern Italy under Greek command while in the south; Greece landed 100,000 troops and captured one part of the Italian boot. However the still strong Italian submarines were sinking many Greek ships and making it hard for Greece to supply its troops in Italy.

Other World Events

In other world news, the Western Front remained quiet because of the massive French defenses. And in the south, Spain made a bit more progress in southern France. But also, the Chinese Republic beat back the Japanese and put the entire Korean peninsula under siege in 1941. China was indeed a threat. They had become a near-world power that was heavily defeating Japan by land. Perhaps, Japan’s biggest mistake in their war against China was to land too many soldiers in too many different beachheads across the Chinese coast, making it easy for the Chinese to pick each off, individually.

The war is going well for the Allies, but how long will it last?
Will Japan resurge from their chasm, or will China become the new beast from the east?
Can the Soviets stem the Axis tide in the Ukraine and Byelorussia?
Can Greece recover from their supply crisis in Italy?

I doubt the Axis had Tigers in 40-41 (referring to the Tanks in the East pic).

Most impressive :) I especially admire your perseverance in continuing the story despite losing the save before completing the game; there aren't many out there who would try something like that. Also, I'm something of a fan of the historybook style myself, so I don't have any complaints about screenshots (or the lack thereof) :)

I'm w/ Crush3r in regards to Tiger tanks--I haven't read up on WWII tanks in a long time, but I seem to recall somewhere that the Tiger wasn't actually deployed until somewhere around '43 or '44. The Germans would probably still be using Pz IIIs or IVs at this point (I forget exactly when the IV was developed).

Keep up the good work! :)

sorry bout the tigers, didn't notice that, oh well still good pics i guess, thanks again for all the compliments, this is by far the nicest forum i've been on :D

well, maybe the roller coaster tycoon forum is a bit nicer :p

EDIT ::: the fortune city images arent working, i'll try to put new images tomorrow
EDIT(2)::: the new images are up, they arent as good as the old ones, but their better than nothing

:)

the Tiger II (panzer 7, king tiger) was deployed in 44, around the time of the normandy landings. tiger I (panzer 6) was developed in 41 and saw service in north africa with rommel a bit in 41, but 42 was the main year it was used, mostly in russia.

The Great European War: 1941-1942

The Eastern Front

It seems that when Russia entered into 1942, the defeats of ’41 were forgotten. Morale was rising and fueling the Russian charge against the Axis. The Soviets started by taking out the smaller Axis nations like Hungary and Romania with the help of Greece. But the two great powers had different political viewpoints and could not unite the countries, they could only split them. By the end of the year, the Russians were back where they started, in Poland. Back at the starting point of the war, no one knew what 1943 could hold.

The African Front

After Alexandria, Greek ships blockaded Italian supply ships trying to get to Africa. As a result, Italian troops in Africa could not fight back, ammunition ran out quickly. Nearly all of the Italian troops started to surrender en masse and those who didn’t were isolated and killed. Thousands of prisoners were taken, while Africa was re-divided between France and England. Farther south, Ethiopia was freed, with even more territory than before. On the other side of Africa, the French started the Moroccan Offensive that utilized local fighters to overthrow the Spanish troops there.

Greek Operations

As discussed previously, the Greeks played huge roles in the defeats of the Italians, Romanians, and Hungarians. However, once the Italian possessions in Africa were conquered, the Greek navy focused on bombarding the Italian coast and supplying the Greek troops. By the end of 1941, the supply crisis was over and Greek troops resumed their operations in Italy. The massive Battle of Naples secured the south for Greece. With a naval blockade bombarding the city in unison with artillery fire, the city fell swiftly, though deadly. Greek cavalry and mechanized infantry conquered adjacent areas and surrounded the city. When the Italian infantry was finally subdued, the city was in ruins. As the Greeks marched farther north, they captured Rome without a fight. Mussolini had recalled all the Italian troops to Milan, and the northern Italian industrial powerhouses. Thousands of retreating Italians were chased down, surrounded, and destroyed by the Greeks. When the Greeks reached Florence in the spring of 1942, they received word that Mussolini had been deposed and Italy was willing to sue for peace. The Greeks accepted and formed Italy as a puppet. The Greek troops continued to march north through Italy and into Germany. Crossing the Alps was very harsh on the tired Greek troops and caused many deaths. In fact, 1942 was the deadliest year for the Allies. The Axis’ day was still to come. Finally with the help of Croats, Austrians, and Hungarians, the Greeks breached into southern Germany and captured Munich. Civilians rejoiced as Hitler’s empire crumbled.

Other News

In France, Spain was finally starting to break, one flank was pushed all the way back to Barcelona while the other was still near Bordeaux. In China, the Chinese Republic finally defeated Japan and created a united Korea as a puppet. In Japan, reaction to the humiliating defeat was so bad, that the government was overthrown and a communist regime was installed, with Hirohito only as a figurehead.

The Great European War: 1942-1943

The Final Offensive: Germany

The Soviet Union pushed easily into Poland. Germany was collapsing fast. Warsaw was taken by the Russians easily in late 1942. However, after that trenches were dug in and Great War like fighting broke out across Poland. The trenches killed thousands of Germans and Russians alike in the unusually harsh Polish winter. However, in the south, things looked bright for the Greeks. The Greeks swept through southern Germany and met up with long-dormant French forces at the Maginot Line. The French and Greeks fought together at battles in Frankfurt and Dresden. Without a significant air force, Britain was forced to utilize her air force in Germany. The RAF did very well in destroying the infrastructure of Germany. As the Greeks moved farther north they captured Berlin. It was not, however, the great battle everyone expected. The Germans were easily broken with limited casualties. Hitler and his government fled to Hamburg for refuge. Meanwhile, Greece had cut off the German’s Eastern Front with the Soviets, allowing Russian troops to massacre the Germans there. The last stand of the 3rd Reich was at Hamburg. For the first days of the battle, RAF bombers created a fire storm in the city. The government fled underground and German troops dug in for a long siege. But it was not to be. Greek artillery cracked the German defenses and soon Greek troops were pouring through the entire city. The toughest fighting of the battle took place underground. Greek troops faced off against crack German troops defending Hitler’s vast catacombs. Finally an order was given to the Greeks to retreat out of the catacombs. When they did, bombs were set all over the underground city and the doors were closed. We don’t know what exactly happened but the entire subterranean structure was destroyed and Hitler’s body was found, incinerated. The war in Germany was over, but Spain still needed to be taken care over.

The Final Offensive: Spain

The final offensive in Spain was short. Throughout 1943, the French advanced through northern and eastern Spain. While the British landed a massive amphibious force at Oviedo. The battles were short and not too deadly. The Allies captured Seville on August 14th 1943. On August 27th, Spain surrendered and the Great European War was finally over. Europe was a mess and the Allied leaders met in Athens to sign a treaty and reorganize the continent.

thanks, and yeah, we did do most of the dirty work, except for in Spain, i was surprised to see France and England handle them so efficiently

and you can thank the germans for stopping communism, b/c that whole stalemate on the former german-poland border actually happened and gave me just enough time to conquer berlin and the provinces around it

IMPORTANT NOTE ::: i state before that the save game was destroyed in 1944, so every update from now on will be made up, although i have what i want to happen planned out

Most impressive :) Wonder what the postwar world will look like?

I'm a bit surprised America didn't get involved in the war, but then I suppose Japan's losing battle took care of that. Should be interesting to see how that affects world politics...
