I dunno if this is a CK2+ tweak or if it's base, but Ive been able to keep my general spam in check by giving them bishop, mayor and baron titles. While they leave my court for their new position, they still stay in the retinue thus freeing the space from my court. Rght now all my retinue generals are bishops lol. Of course it does help that Im playing in iberia and routinely have new bishops to make.

But yes, I wish this was fixed. I really like the retinues, but this small tidbit is annoying

I think we should just have retinues without auto-generated leaders, we don't need them and they just clutter things.

Yes. But I suspect that the current game code does not support retinues without leaders. The game needs a placeholder, a pointer to where it sends reinforcents to. Just like regular mercenaries unit needs a leader. I think what they did was just re use the code and create a lowborn in your court. Problem is that we're talking about 20 or more units of 500 men, instead of 1 unit of 4000 something mercenaries. Also mercenary captains do not reside in your court compared to dozens of retinue generals that do. Its really frustating that most of the "cool" features that came with 1.07 serms undertested in QA before being released. Almost everything is now broken from factions, teleporting vassal levies, mongol undead doomstacks, lowborn retinues, rebelling clone armies, etc. Most of us were really looking forward for LoR, but its really disapointing....

Maybe appoint a baron or courtier as leader based on their military stats and relation to you?

Manually giving every single holding to the people from your court is quite annoying especially if there is a lot of them and even more when you have large empire and retinue capacity in the range of 200-300k or more.
This cure would be worse then disease since I only have to use Court tab from time to time.

IMHO best option until Paradox fixes this is to ignore it unless your game lags.

Does anyone know the actual fact on how a court of 80 or so impacts the chances of people having children in your court? Does it make it 0%?

I get what you mean, but since new arrivals at your court always show at the bottom, I dont really have to fish for the new retinue general I just got. As I said, it does kinda work for me as Im doing the reconquista and routinely have new holdings to distribute, but as that well dries up and my current generala start dying, I can certainly see it becoming a problem. All i meant to say is that if you want to at least drop a few numbers in your court, theres ways you can do it

Does anyone know the actual fact on how a court of 80 or so impacts the chances of people having children in your court? Does it make it 0%?

I asked this question in the quick questions and answers thread and was told <30 courtiers, up to 2 children; >30 courtiers, 1 child max. The guy looked like he knew well what he was talking about.

If I may ask a tangential question of my own, what determines your retinue cap?

You guys know you can put duke/counts etc. in charge of retinues, right? Then mat marry the courtier (ex-general).

Don't get me wrong, it's still annoying as hell and should be addressed asap.

I played an hour yesterday as my Roman Empire, which is going slower and slower. Working towards reaching 1399 and exporting it to EU3. Campaign have been going on since LoR came out.
I stopped after the hour, having conquered a new duchy and replaced some foreign rulers. I looked at the date, and lo and behold, in 1 real hour I had progressed a single year.

The lag from the generals is making the game nigh-unplayable, and it's absolutely astounding how Paradox has not given a single comment on whether 1.08 will improve things.

There is an alternate solution - increase retinue size in the relevant file via a mod. Of course, this has the downside of needing more retinue points before you can make a (new) one. I suppose one could implement multiple sizes of retinues, but this seems like an overcomplication, and I really doubt the AI would take advantage of that. It will, of course, muck up existing saves.

When your court is a small army in size something is wrong. Terribly wrong. You could almost yell at court one day "Arm yourself we're going to beat up some peasant uprisings!".

Sounds like fun! But seriously, I hope the devs will address this problem in the next patch.

This can't be WAD if you can get rid of retinue generals from your court by landing them or matri-marriage abroad - while they still remain heading your retinues.

Here's a more obvious example: While playing a duke, the HRE assigns my ruler to head a retinue. One won independence war later, I'm an independent duchy but the HRE still has me heading a retinue stationed at some random county.

Yes, I can solve this by raising a levy and assigning my ruler to head it... but this means the implementation of permanent heads of retinues (regardless of their independence/abroad and landed status) is surely a bug?
