Not just all of the auto generated generals but all of your vassals levies are assigned no generals. I forgot about that.

And all those leaderless levies dont let me assign ANYONE as the crown Authority is too low, what is with that!
I am playing a vassal so dont get to change the laws so I can assign the baron to command his own levies damn it, or any Marshall

The whole game side with selecting leaders is SNAFU at present.
Good post, and I agree with everything you say. Jockeying for status and prestige (on the nobility's end) and dealing with arrogant and entitled higher nobility (on the king's end) are huge parts of the time period, but a lot of times it feels like they're barely in the game. It's not just picking commanders for your armies, either; nobody seems to care if the guy you've picked to be chancellor or steward of the kingdom is a titleless courtier or mayor of some random village. These positions really ought to be restricted to counts and above until high or absolute CA, at the very least.

This Issue needs to be fixed somehow. If it was to me, you would simply not get Courties to lead every 500 Retinue. This mechanic also makes it way too easy to get good commanders. As soon as retinues become a part of the game (i.e. 10k stacks or more) nearly everyone is going to have at least 3 Martial 20-25 Commanders to lead them. You'll never have to worry about Generals.

Make the "Leader for personal" Retinue an Intrigue decision.

If the next DLC was just a balance package, with no new features added (i.e. four or six weeks of project effort just about balancing and fixing) I'd buy it still.
For balance issues they have patches.

I find annoying this lowborn spam, it surely needs a fix, and I'm sure PI will fix it. :)

I honestly do not understand why they thought this was necessary to begin with. You didn't get a commander for each Retinue regiment in Sengoku, either, and frankly I think one commander (or at the most, three) for an entire retinue force is more than enough already.

Would it be possible to fix it through modding? make it so a random baron gets assigned the role rather than making a new character.
I havent gone through everything, but i assume the generation is automatic and hardcoded, but you never know there might be a retinue leader line somewhere

Every time i overtake a new duchy with a Holy War or IR CB i go through the court and go through the generated leaders, marrying them to random female courtiers if available and then assigning them cities or bishoprics in order to remove up to two people from the court for each non castle barony. This essentially allows them to take the pace of auto-generated vassals with a slightly higher degree of control and gives you the feel of landing accomplished soldiers of your army.

Obviously you then assign the county and duchy title to an unhanded member of your dynasty and never need to worry about your former courtiers again.

If your rate of conquest and title revocation keeps pace with your retinue growth, i've found this keeps the Roman court at around 17-20 souls.

Oh, just wait until you get to the late game parts and the fact that every ruler now has a 100+ person court. Watch as the lag devours the game. I usually try not to label something as making the game 'unplayable' but this one just about does it. There are so many annoyances to having these giant courts that the game has lost a LOT of its fun for me. I used to be mildly annoyed when every single lord in my realm would want to be my court chaplain but now with all these randomly generated people it's just plain obnoxious. Now every one of them constantly demands that every single council position be theirs.

So that is the reason why the late game is so slow? I agree that giving us one general with each retinue is too much. A Emperor of Britannia, i dont know whta to do with so many tens of +20 skill generals. They all crample my court.

The solution is to not have a massive retinue.

No, the solution is to fix the game so it can be played according to its own rules.

If the rules allow for a massive retinue, the player should be able to create one without hamstringing performance.

I think generating a new general for every retinue is an obvious mistake in design.

Except that if you do this you'll quickly make it so that none of your newly created vassals have the ability to create a useable court since all of their barony-level characters are leading your revenues and that county never gets its religion converted. So, it's a tradeoff.

I've played 2 games with LoR and 1.07 and I'm thinking of just turning off LoR for my 3rd game. Rather not have retinues myself or for the AI then have 60 - 80 court members. I am getting tired of managing them.

And if your retinue every disbands the generals stay. And there are 1 or 2 bugs that can cause a retinue to disband on the bug forum. i doid that with a a 25K retinue. Instant 2 dozen generals.

Plus sometimes I want to personally lead a retinue or have one of my sons or a Duke lead it. That will create more generals when once the war is over and you resign command. Boom another general.

But yeah I'm tired of managing it. Think the last games I ended I always had at least 55 people in my court and the high end was 80. Before LoR and retinues I always kept my court under 30 and most of the time under 20 so my children could make children.

Sorry for the possible necro but has there been any indication from Paradox that this is going to be fixed?

At the moment, my strategy is to stay a superduke and only create/usurp a king title when a couple of celibate guys show up in the realm. Grant them the counties and excess duchies, they're so grateful you get 80+ relations to them. Since they're celibate, they die childless and you get to inherit their duchies/counties again. Rinse, repeat. It's far safer than granting excess duchies to your designated heir.

But with the retinue system, you inherit all their lowborn generals from their retinues too. Every time!

The place to check would be the Bug Reports forum or the like, if its got a thread there then probably its being dealt with.
