Will be USSR limited in their leadership capabilities by the great purge of 1937? There will be events like these in the game? It will be historical and add great fun. The player must be able to avoid it un the game, but with some cost to him.

the purge impaired USSR ability to effectively fight Germany in the early stages of Barbarossa.

The problem with events like "Do you want to kill all your best military leaders?" is that the player can avoid them. IMO it shouldn't be possible to avoid them, especially if they are in the beginning of the game.

Well, maybe we can pretend that Stalin's paranoid fancies were actually correct, and the officers were really plotting to overthrow him? So you can choose between killing off your most able military leaders, or have a major revolt start?

Sorry, no purges. Check above; it's one of those 'politically incorrect' things.

This DOES beg a question, though: if there are no purges, how do you historically decrease the Military power of the Soviet Union in 1937? Without the purges, the Germans are going to have a much rougher time in Russia than they did historically....

(Edit: I do see where they say Systematic purges will not be in, but there are military purges and political purges... Although sometimes that blurrs the lines)

I really don't see where leadership military purges due to treason are considered non-PC....

Yes they were executed, but if you think that is grounds for PC-uncorrectness then so is killing people in general in normal combat and WWII wasn't a glorified version of paint ball after all...

Treason and suspicion of treason is another part of war... Every nation did that during the war (although not as profound as Stalin).

Germany had it's own purges, but they didn't outright execute them (well not until 1944 and even then you had to be suspect... Guderian still got into fights with Hitler)

Usually, certain generals would be framed for certain things..... And they would be demoted or they would resign...

And sometimes be asked to comeback when the front lines were looking bad! :D

And later during the war they would just be dismissed outright for no reason.

However, if executing generals is too un-PC I don't see a problem in where they are dismissed or they all resign... I'm sure that will be the route.

However, I want to add... Dismissing (or executing) generals would have a major moral effect on the troops... Although, it should be possible that certain military leaders would want to revolt or switch sides... It could happen.

The real question is what do you do with your generals.
Guys who got shot made room for the guys who actualy fought in WW2. So if there is no purge does this mean that Zhukow is just a major ? wth are you goan do then.

Days of Decision has the purges, and all soviet players do them as soon as possible. Reason? USSR cant DOW unless the purge has been played. Something similar could be done for HoI.

maybe many leaders will have their deathdates in 1937, together with some morale decreasing events this could stimulate the Great Purge.

Like Blomberg and Fritz in Jannuary 1938.........
Blomberg for marrying a former prostitute and Fritz for homosexual and child molester.................
but Fritz was found innocent by a military court and even though he didn't get back his OKW position he fought in the invasion of Poland leading his old regiment and got himself killed..........

So there is not much ground to include military purges other than in Russia.............
I think it wouldn't make or breake the game.:)

In this case I'm quite sure that the thread you remember was incidentally one in our moderators forum. ;) That's why the answer to that question is still NDA protected. :) Chuikov is absolutely right, though, in pointing out that there will *not* be any feature in the sense that the player may kill or deport leaders/ministers.

I had this problem with EU2 - I never knew whether the info I had was gotten freely or under the NDA. I therefore just kept quiet :)
You have answered as far as you can so this thread is at an end :)
