Little back story. France PU'd and Integrated Castille very very early in the game and Austria broke their alliance with me right before French attacked. Thats one reason why France was so powerful.
This had to be the longest legit war I've ever had. By legit, i mean many battles throughout and huge ones to.
Through pure determination not to give up and give French any concessions and a massive amount of debt.. it took me nearly 25 years before I could turn the tables and go on the offensive.
I would split the war down into 3 'parts'
The first part would be the first 11 or 12 years when all of our allies were involved (France - England, Portugal, Trier, and Denmark) (Pope - Venice, Hesse, Poland, Pomerania, Ulm, and Saxony) in the first part, France was extremely offensive in Italy and pushed me back as far as Florence and Pisa where I was able to hold them there.
The second part of the war was between Years 12-25 where I would call the Stalemate. All our allies leaving the very bloody and pointless war. I was able to push France back to Savoy where the we would see countless battles back and forth and me losing a good amount of them I however did some strategic siege/defending the war goal to keep France from sending the -1 stability peace deals.
The final part of the war in the final 10 years or so, the french lost a major battle and I was able to go on the offensive and take most of southern France, however they came back in full force and took most of it back. I was able to get to Paris and the war looked like it was finally going to turn in my favor until "Bankruptcy Alert!!!!" With Paris in my hands I was able to finally get a white peace with France. But I ask myself at what cost?
Here is a few facts from this war
-War started Feb 1669 and lasted till May 1703.
-I went through 4 different Popes during the war!
-A total of 140 battles took place, I would say 80% of them were battles consisting of at least 50k troops on each side.
-Largest battle to take place was 186k French vs 121k Papal troops.
-Unfortunately I lost the majority of the battles but able to keep the war going due to high manpower + merc reinforcement/recovery.
-At one point in the first 10 years France had 63 war score on me and occupied all of northern Italy (Venice was ally-in-war with me)
-I had 163 loans at the end worth a total of 72.9k (I make about 40 ducats per month so that's around 150-200 years to pay off)
-All our allies white peace'd about half way into the war and was down just to vassals and colonies for help.
-Around 20 years into the war, I was able to get Austria as a ally again.. able to call them into war to help. They instantly 'White Peace' due to war length.
I'd like to know if any of you had similar extremely long wars that weren't what I call a waiting game.
