It is clear that some things need to be tidied up a bit further in this game. I mentioned a few earlier. I have read a few items in this thread that do not correlate with my current game. It has been stated several times that the ai does not do a good job in building units-well, I just opened up my Italian GC in 03/40 in; Germany, USSR and the UK. France was defeated and everyone else was at peace other than Germany and 6 Allied nations.
Germany had over 280 land Bde's and more than 80 air units-navy was weak, 18 units, but had many losses.
Russia had nearly 700 land Bde's, and more than 40 air units.
The UK had about 160 land bde's, 45 air units and a huge amount (300?) of naval units. The one notable weakness was the lack of convoy's for the UK-it has resources galore, but was heading to zero oil in a few months.
All powers had more units under construction that could be funded. One oddity is that the units being built were all brigades-not divisions. It appears that those are formed into divisions when completed though.
All ai powers had reasonable tech progress too. One thing they all had in common was that there was absolutely no "theory" having been researched-they seemed to be doing well anyway. Both Germany and the UK had nearly every air tech being researched-interesting.
Anyway, my point is that there are apparently variables to how the ai will react. It is not inherently stupid-it has actually done a fairly decent job over all in my game-except for the UK's lack of convoy's. It's strange though that over building of convoy's was one of the problems-perhaps there was an over correction.
1.2 made some good progress. If Paradox could just get a few things that were present in HoI2 included in the next patch, I will be very happy. As it is, the game is quite playable for me, but has a few irritations due to missing items in the UI. Other than that; the diplomatic drift business has led to a couple vocal WTF over? Specifically; IOtaly drifting into the commitern even though I broke all trade and initiated embargo's against all of that ilk. I did the allign with Axis a few times while I could, but the drift to the left was too much. Funny though-I can still DOW the USSR if I wanted. Italy is on its own.
The only way I see to compensate for such drifting is a larger use of leader points in Intelligence. As Italy only has 13.2 at the start, to put 3 points into that would seriously hurt research-especially keeping in mind that new officers are needed and at least a little in the diplomatic area. Speaking of "officers", 1.2 did a great job in bumping up their recruitment level.
Oh, and the Bunker video is, if not very fair, down right funny.
