What about an Inca shield based on this info:

Inca shield

And perhaps an Aztec shield on this, ok it's a longshot but the eagle in the Mexican arms refer to an Aztec legend. :)

Yup, I know that one.
Haven't posted it at my site yet, however the trident was the symbol of Ukraine before the use of Archangel Michael...

thanks

Actually that's the arms of Castille, Leon, Aragon, and Sicily all piled together, and it does look nice

while the bmp does look good, i have never liked the later versions of spains flags. the purple lion really turns me off even if it is historically accurate. yellow and purple just don't go together. here in texas i'm just so used to seeng the castles and lions. you can see it at least 3 or four different places in austin in six flag collections.

thanks for all the work you guys are doing anyway

As a state emblem the trident dates back to Kievan Rus, when it was the coat of arms of the Riuryk dynasty. There are various theories about its origins and meaning. A trident was the symbol of Poseidon, the sea god of Greek mythology. The oldest examples of the trident discovered by archeologists on Ukrainian territory date back to the 1st century AD.
At that time the trident probably served as a symbol of power in one of the tribes that later became part of the Ukrainian people. The trident was stamped on the gold and silver coins issued by Prince Volodymyr the Great, who perhaps inherited the symbol from his ancestors as a dynastic coat of arms and passed it on to his sons, Sviatopolk i and Yaroslav the Wise. Iziaslav Yaroslavych, Sviatopolk II Iziaslavych, and Lev Danylovych used the trident as their coat of arms. Although the trident continued to be used by some ruling families as a dynastic coat of arms until the 15th century, it was replaced as a state emblem in the 12th century with the Archangel Michael. The trident was also used as a religious symbol in Ukrainian folklore and church heraldry.

And again me. This time with Haiti shield/flag to replace EU's most awful set. Haiti had lots of flags, but this one turned out to be most viable (and fitting in EU timescale). The one they have originally is their independence war flag.

No problemo. Here's a little something that, I think could interest MKJ. I've found this banner along with the wyvern as two historic flags of Kazan. The writing above is in old russian reading "The other tatar flag"

I agree that the white flag with purple over black canton isn't the best choice, but the blue/red vertical bicolor, which was used undefaced for only five months, isn't either. A blue over red horizontal bicolor, however, was in use for some fourteen years during the EU2 period and a total of about seven more after it, and forms the basis of all later flags (except Duvalier's dictatorship):

I have just looked at the preview page and there are some beautiful shields and flags. Will be worth playing some countries just to see your armies march under them. :)

I have just one query though. The shields and (particularly) flags for France and Orleans are virtually identical. Although I'm sure these are correct, it will make for very difficult gameplay. Isn't there a good alternative to one or the other?

On similar lines, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do for the Burgundy flag, relative to Spain. I think I remember some comment from MKJ somewhere that there was an option to have yellow background for Burgundy flag (opposite to how it is in Paradox 1.05, I think?). Is that the plan?

Keep up the good work. It is much appreciated! :)

Not one any better than using France Ancient like Paradox does; it's three and a half decades out of date at the beginning of the GC, if I recall correctly. On the other hand, I think the shields are distinct enough, and we can certainly make the label on the Orleans flag more distinct. How's this?

I wish I knew. It's still up in the air.
