Chapter 47: More OPM killing
March 9, 1563: Europe is quiet - which, as we know, is
bad. Must unquiet it. The Spanish-controlled pope excommunicates the Archbishop of Utrecht for being on the same continent as a Protestant. Utrecht is allied with the Munsterian Pope, guaranteed by Thuringia, covered by the Holy Roman Punching Bag, Austria, and will be protected by the Mighty Candar due to a warning. Helpfully, Utrecht as a Textile Manufactory, and Thuringen has a university (because as we all know, Spain is short on Universities, with only 17.)
A sidetracking comment - in EU2, you wanted to take manufactory appropriate provinces before the AI built a manufactory, because the AI almost always built something useless, and the costs didn't scale. Now, the AI always builds the right one, and doesn't bother with Fine Arts Academies (which they used to love), so it's sometimes advantageous to let them build before invading.
April 15: WAAAAAAAAAR! The Utrecht Threat can no longer be ignored, and war is declared. Doomstacks are dispatched to fight off the mighty Austria, Thuringia, Utrecht, and Papal States, who have a mighty 5 provinces between them. Candar is split in 4 sections, only 3 of which I can reach, but they're going to get it too. Prussia, on the other hand, has joined in, but I don't really want to go that far or get a border on that side of Poland. I'll use them for something later...
Down in Deep Dark Africa, the Animists of Zumbo rise up in protest of the declaration of war.
Amusingly, Candar is leading the war, since they are the strongest power.
May 3: The Papal States is annexed after a quick assault.
May 6: Austria falls to Assault and immediately offers to give up 7 cores and 1500 ducats. We're short on diplomats, so we accept - we can always get more later.
June 2: Utrecht is annexed.
July 26: The Mamluks warn us, apparently having forgotten what happened the last time they warned us.
August 1: Land 21! New bang-bangs, and 1 level away from Latin Caracole Cavalry.
August 7: Thuringia cedes Thuringen and gives up 2150 ducats.
August 15: A quick look at France shows that they're rebuilding their army. The placement shows that it's obviously geared to defend against...the Danes. Yeah, them. France also has picked up QFTNW. What a waste!
September 16: A quick look at the HRE. It seems...smaller. I'd yank my provinces out, but why waste my prestige? Converting back to a monarchy to become emperor seems out of the question, given those relations with the electors - even my vassal Brandenburg hates my guts!
October 14: Tibet peaces out with a white peace. I can't get to them, nor do I want a border with Ming yet.
November 27: Prussia agrees to peace, and in return, I release Brandenburg, Cleves, and the Palatinate from their vassalage. 3 diplomatic actions for the price of 1!
December 1: All my ex-vassals have broken their alliance with me. Not surprising.
December 7: Orissa cedes Telingana, Bastar, Golconda, and Parlakimidi, and gives up 50 ducats. This is all I could get without transports (which aren't in theatre or military access (which no one is stupid enough to give me).
March 14, 1564: Candar would cede Sinope and Jabal Shammar, but then I remember they have Kaffa. Time to go take that before getting peace...
November 18: Kaffa falls, so now Candar cedes Sinope, Kaffa, and Jabal Shammar. They also give up 8 cores.
Now that we're not at war, we can burn off WE and prepare for our next move.
January 25, 1565: Cleves warns us. Apparently, they were so disturbed by having the vassalage broken, they'll do anything to rejoin us!
February 22: Venice warns us. A quick look at the relations tab shows that we're not very well liked.
June 1: Before anyone else can warn us or declare war, we declare war on Adal, to bring in the Mamluks, Cleves, and Venice. The goal of this war is to burn off warnings before I find myself surrounded by people warning me. I'll also get to kill off Venice's CoT now.
June 22: Cleves is annexed after falling to a pre-positioned doomstack.
June 28: My anti-rebel cavalry in Egypt is wiped out by rebels. Time to ship in a cav doomstack from Italy - I need it anyway in case Persia gets uppity.
July 23: The Mamluks maul most of the cavalry I have in the Georgian theatre in a nasty battle in Azerbaijan. They have 10 regiments (3/4/3) and 3 provinces - I have 8 cavalry regiments. I will need to be more careful lest I lose my regiments. The cav stack flees to Armenia and gets mauled again, but escapes before they get killed (flee is your friend!). They flee to Imereti, where I have 5K more cavalry to cover. The lessons here: don't underestimate Muslim tech group enemies when you're lagging in tech and still using knights.
October 24: Venice falls, so we start the embargo.
November 1: The value of the CoT in Venice drops to 288.88.
November 3: Mamluk resistance in Egypt is annihiliated.
November 27: Venice is annexed, and her CoT destroyed.
December 1: A new CoT is created in Corsica. Nooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
