It's more like you can't build cav without horses, etc.

That seems about right, but only in the specific provinces that are invovled in the trade or that produces the resources. And wood allows building triremes. Heres a screen that shows how a trade is set up:

I'm still wondering about not having Horse Archers in the other province, does that mean that the culture dosn't have the ability to make them?

It seems so. Makes game much more realistic, and interesting as well. It would be cool if we could get full list of resources along with their bonuses. Some of them are quite powerful now: Horses and Wood enable unit types, Grain gives bonus to population...

I only hope AI will be able to cope with them pretty good. No fun fighting Parthians that are unable to produce Horse Archers :p

They probably have provinces of their own producing horses so that particular example shouldnt be a problem. But i see what you mean, f.ex. does Carthage have any provinces with wood for keeping up that naval supremacy or is that also dependable on trade with another nation? Seems like this calls for a very determined AI, but if Paradox pull it through then it will make extremely interesting games.

Having provinces on their own is one thing, but ability to make good trades is another thing. Imagine that Carthage has only one province with wood and me (Rome) take it in peace. If all the other provinces have their trade limits full, Carthage is doomed :p

It could be solved by intelligent AI trading combined with very dynamic (probably only short term trades) trade system. Another thing is proper diversity of resources, so player won't be able to cripple everybody by taking ie. all 10 provinces with wood. I simply hope that in the long run AI won't be crippled by taking few key provinces.

That is my worry as well. But it does look like resources a plentiful and that it would literally take a full grown Roman Empire to monopolize them all. 3 wood producing provinces in the Iberian peninsula, 1 in Southern France and at least one in nearby vicinity of Carthage in North Africa. That being said it is also good that the resources are province dependable, it really makes the colonial warfare of the time realistic.

What we can see currently is promising indeed. Same is true with iron (3 provinces in Iberia). I can be only worried about countries like Egypt. Ptolemaids had serious problems with resources and this will be most likely modelled. I only hope that their diplomacy will match ancient counterpart ;)

And I still wonder what diffrent resources give. Iron gives Heavy Infantry? What other resources can you identify at the pictures? I think there is 1 Gold Province, few with Cooper. Only wonder what Bastetani and neighbours produce

Could also be olive oil. But my guess would also be wine. Though i wonder what (if any?) bonus wine would give.
