The Good, The Bad and The Sale

So since Stellaris is on a midweek madness sale on steam (50% off too) I have enough cash to grab this game. I am thinking of getting the galaxy edition and was wondering if it's worth the extra money and all that. Also as the title suggests I am hoping I can take this forum's temperature about the good and the bad about this game? I do really like 4X space games especially with how deep Paradox usually goes with their brand of Strategy.

Good: It has a bigger focus on stories than most 4Xs (the only other 4X I can think of with as much story focus is Endless Legend). Empires are treated more like real politicial entities than just opponents, and actions affecting populations have more weight (there's no zero-consequence planet cleansing like in a lot of 4Xs).

Bad: The various systems: military, diplomacy and development, are all somewhat simplistic. UI is clunky in places. Balance could be better. Victory is almost exclusively through conquest.

Ambivalent: Games are significantly longer than most 4Xs, and the pace is slower.

You say you're a fan of 4Xs so I'd definitely recommend it; it's far from perfect but it's different enough to be worth playing.

edit: Should also note that a major patch is coming up that looks like it'll significantly improve the internal management and development parts

The fact that modders have such an open and collaborative stance with the developers makes this a no brainer.

That sounds like my kind of game. Whenever I play Civilization (be it any of them) I always play on Marathon. I love playing the long game in strategy games.

Paradox usually has a really good thing going on with modders, so it's good to hear that is being kept up. Sadly as only the game itself is on sale and not the DLC's I cannot grab them yet. Still it sounds like my kind of game. You have convinced me so here goes nothing Thank you for answering my questions by the way.

We do? With each other maybe. With the devs? No. We haven't been given any way to.

For its sale price, yes its a bargain. It has some kinks here and there (just look at the sector AI thread) but nothing overly game breaking. Compared to Hoi 4 currently, its a lot more polished and works far better. Lets put it this way, if I could have changed my pre-orders, I would have swapped my Hoi 4 DLCs for the Stellaris ones, they just work far better out of the box.

And remember the way paradox does business, whatever you play when you buy it is likely to be it's worst, least content filled state. It's pretty much guaranteed that we will see many patches, improvements and features added as time goes on.
