Having just started my first Grand Campaign as the Ottoman Empire, I've noticed many things about the game:

The good:

1) The music is really good. Kudos on the classical pieces chosen.
2) The new features are really cool. The pirateers, domestic sliders, and the forced vassalization feature being my favorites so far.
3)It's nice to be able to play as any country without mods.

The bad:

1) The game is a tad slow an occasionally sticks for me.( I've been told I could need more RAM. I have only(!) 96 MBs in my system.)
2) The music garbles horribly during autosave.(Again, this could be a RAM problem.)
3) As Turkey, having to conquer all those minors in Anatolia will make my bad boy sky high. ( I heard the patch may alleviate this problem.)

The odd:

1) There was an incredible amount of wars. I was involved in five in just the first couple of years...only one of which I started.
2) My first alliance offer came from the Byzantine Empire?
3) Speaking of alliances, not that I'm against the occasional oddball alliance(in fact, they're kind of cool), but I've never seen so many unrelated countries teamed together. It might have something to do with most countries starting with zero relations with most countries at the start.
4) Why on Earth would Poland guarantee my existence? Not that I minded at the time.

Anyhow, I'm loving the game so far and looking forward to the patch as the Ottoman Empire is my favorite country to play.

Rob

I agree...the music is excellent.

More memory will help, I've got 256 and the runs pretty smooth, only two crashes in single play (both with Austria.)

I agree with your assement of the alliance/dipo experience - many swiss cheese alliances. Baden guarantees Albania's independence.
Allot of wars - on normal setting. Hopefully will get better with patch.

btw right now playing Burgundy, Ottomans down to two provinces.
Teke seems to be taking their place in Anatolya.

AI much better at war:eek:

PRETTY smooth? WHat do you mean, how often does the game skip/lag for you? I ask this because I'm getting 256 pretty soon...

I think EU2's best feature is the new music. Of course there are features that are equally great but the music really stands out to me..

All of the things that I think are bad/annoying are being fixed in the new patch! I LOVE THIS GAME! (even though I have to wait a week untill I can play a smooth game :D)

256MB works great. A little music skip once in awhile, but that is usually when I'm logging on to the Internet or something.

This is World War Zero. :D A much hated thing by the beta testers. Recent beta patches are getting rid of this (probably 1.02 to you guys). Same for the Turkey thing.

Crazy alliances. I think that is mostly fixed in 1.01 patch. Crazy wars, however will hopefully be a 1.02 fix.

Good to hear...I'm finding "Pommern and Baden dow Teke and Tunis" less and less amusing:)

One would think with the new penalty for supportable armies would lead Baden (et all) at 90K (constant)troops to bankruptcy.

the wars at the beginning get a little crazy... I've started 3 different games, and in each one there were at least two and sometimes three wars in Germany within two weeks. If they don't fix the vast amount of wars (or the odd countries that get into them), they need to shorten the amount of time alliances last or have the AI not join wars they will be unable to fight. I've found it quite annoying when I'm trying to make an alliance with someone like Wurtemburg and all of a sudden they get dragged into a war (thus renewing the alliance) with Modena because they wouldn't say no to Genoa. Something needs to be done about this.

I've noticed weird discrepancies with the AI. It will ally with a far off, 2-province minor, but when I have +135 relationship with them, a good rep, and common potential enemy, they turn down my invitation to form an alliance numerous times. Is this something that will get fixed in a patch?

I haven't gotten to the music later in the game, but at the beginning of the GC I think the music is a very good incentive to get to the next epoch (but maybe that's just because I've heard it for a few hours in one day)

Hehe. Can you imagine how many times we beta testers have heard the same music? And we only have 1/3 or something of the music. Most of us make detail tests (not game playing) with the GC. The same music over and over. I still love it!

The ai didn't pay much attention did it... Alas, it looks like 1.02 patch for this problem. It is fixed, but 1.01 has already been sent to Strategy First.

The first bit is the WW 0 problem. This should be a 1.02 patch fix. To the second, I'm not sure whether 1.01 patch will help much. Hopefully this will be sorted out in 1.02 patch.

By the way, I am just a beta tester. Paradox decides what to do with patches. However, we beta testers know what was fixed when, and what are the biggest problems (to us - we are way ahead of you). So I am making good guesses about what will be in a 1.02 patch.
