CHAPTER III: January 1st through June 30th, 1937

As the new year dawned, the emperor was very pleased with himself. He had done much in the last year to ready the roman military for war, and in the next year he would do even more. In the previous year, the first army became the first army to reach it's full strength, sporting 9 divisions, organized in 3 corps, and an aa and garrison brigade attached to the HQ.

The complete first army.

However, in 1937, another affair was occupying the empire's, and the worlds attention: the Spanish Civil War, which was now entering its 6th month. The fighting was vicious and brutal, and many died around Madrid, where the front line between the nationalists and republicans was only about 50 km north of the capitol. The capitol remained in republican hands for now, but the nationalists were strong, and with constant fighting, they could easily break through the republican defenses and take the city.

The situation in the Spanish Civil war, mid January, 1937.

On February 1st, with the war in Spain still raging, and both sides heavily embroiled in the fighting, the emperor decided the time had come for another aggressive move, this time in Spain. In a declaration to the League of Nations, he declared that the world was mistaken on the part of who the true owners of the southern Iberian peninsula were. In fact he declared, it was the roman empire that truly had claim to the Iberian peninsula. He stated that he was willing to forgive the nations that had allowed this mistake to persist, but he also declared that the empire had the right to correct this grave injustice. Essentially, Emperor Georgios declared that he had the right to launch a full scale invasion of southern Spain, whenever he pleased.

The Empire makes another aggressive move in the Mediterranean.

The natural response from the league, was outrage, followed by an official protest. Georgios threats to invade however, was unknown to them, a total bluff. The Imperial military was weak, and in no state to stage an invasion anywhere, let alone on the other side of the Mediterranean. However fear and panic spread among the western democracies, who were sure that a war in the Mediterranean was imminent. France put its Mediterranean fleet on high alert, and the republicans in Spain rushed the few available units they had to spare to the southern coast, to ward off a possible roman invasion. Georgios' bluff had worked, and now he was sure that when his next move came, the League would once again sit by.

On 27th of April, the new fighter wings were completed, and both wings were incorporated into a new fighter fleet.

On May 8th, The Hindenburg blimp, the pride of the German civilian airship fleet, went up in smoke. Literally.

The Death of The Hindenburg.

This wasn't really important to Georgios. However, he did enjoy watching a scheme of Hitler's fail. As amusing as this recent Nazi PR disaster was, the Emperor had other things on his mind, not the least of which was his final and ultimate revenge against the Croatian nation.

Oh your running upgrades at zero, that could be dangerous as BB's takes forever to upgrade and you don't want to wait on that when the war breaks out.
