The Germans in Second World War
- A Brief History -

Version: 1.05c and CORE 0.7 with the latest picture pack

Difficulty: Normal/Aggressive

Goals: a) to recreate a believable World War II; b) to achieve victory with the Germans; c) to finish it

Style: Informative (don’t expect dialogues or narrative paragraphs, just good old fun numbers, charts, maps and general strategies for a German warmonger)

House Rules: No cheating, no reloading, no exploits (trying to do what the Germans could have done historically is more fun anyways…)

Word of Advice: Because of board regulations, this AAR will be first posted on a romanian forum (http://worldwar2.ro/forum), in order to avoid the hassle of receiving the permission from the administrators. Later (meaning in two or three minutes), it will be available here, as well.

Another Word of Advice: My busy schedule won't allow me to post as much as I want but hopefully all my posts will be important enough for my readers. I expect spa... useful feedback and I'm hoping to generate enough discussion topics...

Thank you, Alexandru H.

He He! This AAR will be here, as well.... opening two different forums and posting the same text is not such a big deal...I am capable of dealing with it...

But I admire your perseverence...

The thing is everything we post here is the property of Paradox (according to board rules). But, in order to post this AAR on another forum, besides this one, I should have asked permission from the higher powers. So, I've used a little trick: posting on that forum one minute before posting on this one... Everyone happy, not a single rule broken...

Update to what? Since I have not written a thing, how can I update it?

This has been just an announcement...the AAR is slowly moving towards the light...

My AAR will try to analyse most events that will happen in this time frame during the game, through six different paths (Economy, Politics, Military and Industrial Research, Armed Forces, International Issues and Internal Affairs). To hide its ineherent shallowness, I shall fill it up with screenies, charts and various philosophical thoughts. Think Yogi's German AAR and strip it naked... you have arrived to the optimum spot.

I want to offer some new insights (new to the realm of wAARiting) concerning death (somehow, this is quite forgotten in most AARs, that try to be funny in a very serious matter), power (of the government) and rocknroll. I do think I am the only one entitled to do so, since the initials of my name (A.H.) are identical to the ones of Adolf Hitler's name. Furthermore, I may drop hints about the Aryan concept during the process, but don't be afraid: in spite of my german background, my obvious Aryan features, I am a man of our times, writing about old times with nostalgia but not regret.

Prologue

Prologue

“The Second World War arose from the hostility of the capitalist states towards Germany and its rightful claims for the Lebensraum”. For decades, historians have followed this statement to the letter, taking any responsibility for the war from the Nazi leadership and transferring it to the Allied Camp. It was impossible for those times to deny the official truth, but we should point out that not a single document or piece of proof, that could incriminate Hitler and his henchmen, existed in the state records. However, in the 70s, a period which marked the beginning of a global process of denazification throughout the Empire, saw some courageous attempts to discuss the WWII dogma. Andreas Urtdecker, for example, confirmed that the August 30, 1939 polish border conflict was merely a staged representation, in order to offer some legal grounds for the invasion. Even the long-famed Munich Conference, one of the most celebrated events in Hitler’s career, was rapidly becoming, in the researcher’s eyes, just another test ground for Hitler’s increased ambitions and desire to wage a war against the Russian bear. But, again, the official dogma did not change: Germany wanted a small-scale war; the Allies turned it into a world-shattering experience.

But history took its revenge. And by a strange quirk of faith the truth was finally revealed, not on a French or Russian battlefield, not in the records of the NSDAP, but in a small house located in the town of Bacau, Romania. After the death of its owner, Alexandru Hermann, in 1981, his grand-son discovered in the basement dozens of boxes, sorted by year from 1916 to 1951. All contained unknown documents about the period of the war, but strangely enough, mostly unavailable to any high-ranking Nazi except Hitler. The quiet man that had lived in this house for 30 years had been, before that, the mastermind of the Empire, with Hitler being no more than his personal puppet.

The real story began in 1916, on the western front, when a young Austrian recruit, named Adolf Hitler, met an obscure fellow soldier from the East, who had left the Austrian province of Bukovina and enlisted in a volunteer German army. The two became very close and apparently, Hitler charmed Hermann into a dual political partnership. This may have been the case from Hitler’s point of view, but the papers suggest something else, about a greater conspiracy within the conspiracy. Alexandru Hermann (b. 1891) had certainly his own political agenda, closely linked to the anarchist European movement, of which he was an active supporter. In the trenches, he had developed an interesting theory about the probability of an anarchist victory, called “the authoritarian messiah”. He argued that anarchy will eventually win if the dictatorship of the state will succeed in suppressing liberty, thus making possible a natural desire for liberty, rather than the ominous passions of the ignorant masses. Any compromise (like the modern democracy) is dangerous because it keeps the dominance of the state intact for only some minor benefits. Hermann disputed the fact that there is no need for individuals to achieve a state of complete anarchy; there was need of a single person, who would have to accomplish two apparently irreconcilable goals: be an anarchist and create the ultimate dictatorship; an unknown martyr that would accept eternal damnation for the achievement of true anarchy, a modern Judas who would bring the political Christ to all people.

It seems very likely that Hermann accepted Adolf Hitler as the “messiah” of his dream, vowing to act as his shadow, in order to lead his new creation on the rightful path. We know very little about his pre-1936 period, but we can safely assume that he lurked in the background, pulling strings, never revealing himself, just his acts. He remained unknown to most people of his time, but us, the ones that live in a world shaped by his theories, now know him well and can say without any hesitation: “Alexandru Hermann gave birth to the Second World War”.

Interesting premise, nice prologue (or is it an epilogue sort of?). I'll watch to see how closely our conquest resemble Yogi's in WICG.

Just wanted to say a few things:

a) Every death is an atrocity

b) The story is also posted on a romanian forum. Check it out once in a while for the historically-correct screenshot flags...

c) I'm trying to update it tomorrow...and hopefully I'll manage it...

Chapter 1. The 1935 Memo

core-title.jpg

Chapter 1. The 1935 Memo

“Authority will only crumble by itself. Feed it with the cadavers of weaklings and watch it burst in an orgasm of liberty and mayhem. This is my legacy.” (A.H. – Indibidiguidibil)

On the New Year’s Eve of 1935, Adolf Hitler received his usual letter from Alexandru Hermann, containing the instructions for the new year, wrapped, of course, in a deceitful layer of intricate, false praises to the genius of the German dictator. After so many years, such an attitude was necessary, for his increased schizophrenia made it quite difficult to communicate with the master puppeteer. But, nonetheless, Hitler always managed to fulfill most of the demands with no real problems, even if most of them were against his inner beliefs and idiosyncrasies. The 1935 dispatch is particularly interesting, mainly because we find the first reference to a future grand-scale world war between Germany and the world, but also tons of handy indications about Hermann’s real aims.

a) War. The war is inevitable. Claiming that Germany wants peace is a dangerous illusion, which is worth maintaining only for the foreigner’s eyes. There are three main ideologies and each one has a keen interest in the fall of the other ones. The question is not “who will wage war first?”, but rather “who will succeed in making a devil’s alliance with an opposing ideology?”, thus assuring that Germany’s First World War situation will not repeat itself. You feel that USSR is our arch enemy and I won’t contradict you. But, in the same time, USSR’ tyrannical leadership can be easily modeled by our diplomacy and brought, for a while, in our camp. The Allies are simply too overwhelmed by democratic ideas and stupid politicians, that listen to their voters rather than their own hearts. A war to end all wars…

b) Economy. Our industrial output is satisfactory while our resource level is dangerously low. Well, Göring is an idiot, what do you expect? The truth is we lack not a single resource, at least until the war starts. We will easily gather enough reserves from various deals on the world market, but also from individual contracts. Once the war will start, the resource problem won’t be a problem anymore, being easily resolved with sheer firepower. I am concerned however by our industrial capacity, certainly incapable of dealing with the demands of modern warfare. Unfortunately, I see no reasonable way to increase it before the outbreak of war. Let’s learn to accept that our projects will have to relate themselves to the existing industrial tree, and not to our own mad dreams.

c) Armed Forces and Military Research. I see victorious tanks, planes and submarines, but nowhere in my visions have cavalry, battleships or rockets appeared. Hitler, heed my warning! Don’t engage in costly and useless projects just for the sake of proving the Aryan superiority. Do it smart and Germany shall live a thousand years. Do it not and we’ll all die.

d) Internal Policy. A week ago, Goebbels told me about your newest concoction: racial laws. While he described this in full detail, I couldn’t feel anything but repulsion towards his stupid smirk. He may be your lap-dog, but I’m not, even if you apparently excluded me from this “field of research”. You can’t work with people like Himmler, and I hope you’ll realize this soon enough. Such deaths are useless in fulfilling our objectives, so, please, try to calm down your exulted stances.

e) International Affairs. We need allies, and I agree with this statement. However, your picks (Italy and Great Britain) are totally wrong. Italy is a second-rate power and the only way we could use Mussolini properly would be if we turn Italy into a puppet state. Great Britain is an Allied power and you know my sentiments towards western democracies. I know we’ll eventually forge an alliance, in which every small and insignificant state will enter, but this won’t help our war machine a bit. As I previously stated, the German-Russian agreement is our only choice and we should divert all our diplomatic resources towards this target.
